vadvlfan 04-19-2007, 07:57 AM Wonder if any additional (lowell devils) have been called up be ready to rock. now that we need not worry about the cap, I'd like to see 2 d 2 fw's
Clarkson/McGillis/Malmavarra/Bergfors ??? (Minard is too young & not eligable) I'll bet lou has a handfull of players in a hotel room keeping their skills up @ os. mountain.

I'm still thinking (and hoping) that we'll see Clarkson and/or Janssen for the next game.
Lou "should" want the CAA rockin' and having a guy that will drill everyone will get it going!
Plus, I would plan on the Lightening to come out all guns blazing and stick with a strong forecheck & lots of hitting themsleves, simply because they did that in the 2nd game to us and got the win.
We were fortunate last night to get the win. Lou needs to play the next game smart and have the crowd on his side. That means *****-slapping the Lightening with hard hits and lots of shots at goal. Shell-shock 'em so to speak.
DevilsFan38 04-19-2007, 08:23 AM Nope, there haven't been any call ups so far. I'm kind of surprised by that, especially now that Lowell is done, but I've been checking and so far there's been nothing.

I am sure that there are some guys keeping in shape, but I doubt Nicklas Bergfors is one of them. I don't know if he has been really outstanding defensively in the AHL, but I do know his 13 Goals and 19 Assists in 60 GP is weak. He seems to need a lot more time to develop. He just turned 20 on March 7, so I am not concerned at this time.
I would think the guys staying ready are the ones that saw time with the Devils this season, David Clarkson, as you indicated, Rod Pelley, Barry Tallackson, Marc Fraser and maybe even Jim Fahey, though I don't know his status. I see those guys as merely depth in case of emergencies though.

McGillis'- +10, second highest scorer on the team, and lots of nhl playoff experience.
Seems no one really gives him much chance. Maybe he's turned his game around?
Darius Dangleaitis 04-19-2007, 02:55 PM I would love to see Clarkson. Janssen too but we need to be able to roll a 4th line.
Colin Whites Eye 04-19-2007, 03:01 PM ugh more mcgillis talk? STOP IT ALREADY PEOPLE
fraser and brooks would play before mcgillis did IMO
PuckStopsHere02 04-19-2007, 03:20 PM I would love to see Clarkson. Janssen too but we need to be able to roll a 4th line.
Lou (or Johhny Mac) hasn't let the 4th line play above 3 minutes in any of the 4 playoff games. I doubt that as the games get more crucial that he will give them more time.
That being the case, I would like to see Janssen in the lineup for Rupp since Janssen can do more with his 2:30 of ice time then Rupp can in my opinion.
Also if Clarkson is brought up I would like to see him on the checking line in favor of Brylin.
Babachka 04-19-2007, 07:34 PM Seeing as how NJ was pretty cheap with Lowell this season, I would assume they have decided to keep certain players in lowell skateing and training. (the guys already have places to stay, food, travel) I personally havent seen any of them, but I also dont live down there. I know this is what the Avs did last season when they made the playoffs, they kept their players in lowell skateing every day.
I dont understand why Minard is not eligiable? He IS listed as having signed with NJ I believe in 05! I know he was not on an AHL contract through Lowell cuz they didnt have any.
I can see Clarkson, Pelley, Tallackson, Murphy, Fraser, Brooks sticking around to skate. Fahey JUST got back to full practice the last week of the season. I dont see him being thrown into ANY nhl situations anytime soon. I would also assume that they kept both goalies.. maybe bring Doyle up for a 3 goalie/practice goalie and leave Jordan in lowell for their practice goalie?
I am pretty sure you wont see any official call ups.. as in the past their "black aces" normally didnt show up on transaction sheets. The ahl keeps track of who is sent to their teams, but these players are expected to play.. where as in the nhl their not really expected to play, they are basically just extra players.

What he said. ^^^
MoonDragn 04-20-2007, 10:30 AM I was thinking about it, and I doubt Lou would call anybody up. To do so would show his players that he doesn't have any confidence in them. I think thats the last thing Lou wants to do.
Babachka 04-29-2007, 08:44 PM i know this is an old post, but i wasnt going to make a new one.. "called up" Fraser, Mottau, Doyle, Parise, Marshall. (dated 4-26)

I heard Tallackson and Pelley too. I wonder why none of them were listed as scratches in the last few games, though.
I was expecting either Bergfors or Vrana to get the call. Neither had very good seasons, but they're both talented, and would probably play well.
Babachka 04-29-2007, 09:03 PM It would make sense for Barry and Rod to be recalled to stay in shape, but Barry was still kinda nursing an injury at the end of the season, so I dont see him cracking any playoff line up. But to keep their legs goin just incase, I think it would be the smart thing to do.

The Star-Ledger said that they are skating as part of a "taxi-squad". As far as I know, that means they are just practicing with the team but are not eligible to play in games.

I would think that anyone on the "taxi squad" are eligible to play incase of injury. I mean why else have them there skateing? I remember when the Flames were going for the cup, they ended up calling up a Lowell player (who had been sitting at his home for over a month watching play offs *i dont believe lowell made play offs that season*) and he skated and played in at least 2 or 3 games for them.

Why wouldn't they be eligible to play in the playoffs? They're Devils players on two-way contracts, of course they're eligible to play if needed.
frankiedue 04-29-2007, 09:13 PM What I was trying to say was that they aren't on the official playoff roster, thus not eligible to play. They are just skating with the team for the experience, atmosphere, and if need be, they can be added to the playoff roster, and then will be eligible to play. That is why they were not listed as scratches last night.

Pelley and Tallackson were listed as scratches for -I'm pretty sure it was- game 1, which is why I said that. I thought it was a little strange that they were scratches one game, but not the next.

I just looked it up, you are correct, they were. http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20062007/RO030221.HTM

You said Bergfors 13 Goals and 19 Assists and -1 in 60 GP is weak?. Do you think Tallacksons 10 Goals , 24 Assists and -3 is so much stronger?
slackerracker 04-30-2007, 11:14 PM according to yahoo on 4/26 Devils called up Mike Mottau from Lowell. I didnt' see this said anywhere so here it is!

I do think Bergfors is a better player, but he did get 2 less points than Tallackson in 2 more games. If I was Lou, I would have called up several players over those that were. Not that I'm a coach, and I don't know as much as Lou does about them, but I think Bergfors or even Vrana would have been a better choice than Tallackson. But I think their ages and the fact that most of their hockey playing was done in other countries has a big impact on that.
