It's not litterally do or die, but it is very close. However, if the Devils win tonight, they will once again have the home-ice-advantage in what will be just like a best-of-three series. New Jersey just needs to focus and not make mistakes.

Pick it up guys! We need more physical play and we need more boring hockey!! Some one needs to be helping Parise and Greene out there! Come on EGG line, show your offensive skill and dominance. ZZPop needs to continue its wonderful run. Madden and Pando/Brylin need to shutdown the "big 3" the moment they step on the ice.

And finally our 4th line needs to do what the Pando line is doing only more physical! And our D needs to not give up the blue line!!

EGG line has sucked, and Gionta hasn't helped at all in the sucking. Clarkson played well in his stint up here on the top line with Gionta injured, and with Madden-Pando on Lecavalier-St Louis...Gionta being out there constantly to piss off Vinny might work out even better. Plus give some scoring touch to that line in order to give Tampa's top line at least something to worry about defensively.

The defense played over their heads during most of the season and isn't physical enough. Other than Parise, Lagenbrunner and Madden, our primary forwards don't play with enough grit and our on the small side. I also want a coach who will implement a much more aggressive fore-check and have our defense and offense play as a five man unit. And a little coaching stability would be nice as well. I'm kind of glad Lou is behind the bench because he gets to see firsthand who stays and who goes. You'd think with their boss standing behind them, many of our players would play a little bit better, with a sense of urgency, passion & energy.

My predictions:

Gomez will be gone to a team in the West. Since we can't get Ovechkin or Heatley, it will be a shame to continue to underutilize his skills. Don't expect Lou to wait on Gomez and leave us hanging like that idiot Niedermayer, who is the Genesis of about half our problems.

Lou will get us a puck moving defenseman, a big guy as Rafalski is too small and a big, burly North American center.

The team will be built around Parise, Elias, Pandolfo, Clarkson, Martin, Greene, White & Matvichuk.

Elias will quietly relinquish his "C". (same thing happened with Modano, so it should be no big deal.) He will have a comeback year. The Captain role will be rotated among different players like it was a couple years back.

Brylin, Gionta, Langenbrunner, Zajac & Madden are trade material and some could benefit from a change of scenery. This might be unpopular, but we have to give up younger players and players with potential to get something in return. Expect to see an impact trade, not a blockbuster deal, along the likes of Guerin for Arnott, Sykora for Friesen, Arnott & McKay for Langenbrunner, etc.

Brodeur will not top 70 starts again, and rightfully so. Clemmenssen is perfectly capable of starting 12+ games. Besides, 70 is plenty anyway for Brodeur.

Expect Lou to try to assemble a quicker, more exciting team next season, especially with the new building open.

I would not mind if something along those lines happened.

I agree that if we get bounced in the first round there will be major changes, and rightfully so. I have said for the past couple seasons that this team is capable of winning a round or two at best in the playoffs and could just as easily lose in the first or second round as well.

Assuming they go out in the 1st or 2nd round you can't be bringing back the same cast of characters.

I believe Gomez leaves. Not a tragedy if he is only going to score 15 goals a season. I would like to see them beef up the defense as we have been getting pushed around by a Tampa team that is known more as a skill team as opposed to a physical team.

I hope Fraser is on the team next year, he brings a big physical force. maybe Corrente also

What surprises me is that eventhough the playoffs have started and the season is over for Lowell, that there haven't been any callups. The salary cap doesn't apply during the playoffs and it'd be nice having a couple of extras up in the NHL.

How about the Devils try switching up the first two lines. I mean the egg line is back to playing the way the have all season and as I posted earlier before the season ended, the Kid Zajac seems to have hit the proverbial wall. What do they have to lose with trying a few different line combos?

Of the guys you mentioned, only 1 of them can be considered "young". Gionta just signed a long term deal, he's staying put, Brylin is going to retire a Devil.


But let's not talk about next year or the offseason, let's concentrate about tonight.

We need a win, to do so we need to find a way around that aggressive forecheck of theirs, and while I'd like to see a shakeup in lines since not much has been working, according to the paper this morning Lou doesn't plan on shuffling anyone around.

The EGG line needs to step up their play a lot - take a cue from what Parise has been doing - attack the middle and take good shots. All season it seems they've been looking for that pretty goal; we take the zone and move it around the exterior looking for that perfect lane and set up pass, meanwhile we get anxious and just end up ripping one from the point that gets blocked. To hell with that, get people moving in front of Holmqvist , drive the net and put pucks on him.

Marty needs to get back into form too, I hope he's a brick wall tonight.

I agree that changes need to be made. However, I wouldn't even consider moving Zajac. The kid is a rookie. He only needs to work on his skating a bit and most of all he needs to learn to play with a bit of a mean streak and play more physical. I expect some great things from him in the future. And unfortunately, it won't happen due to his contract, but I would love to see them ship out Colin White. And they must not bring back Rass, Dowd and possibly Rupp. Go with Clarkson and Pelly. And Lou isn’t moving Madden or Brylin, you can forget that. As for Gomez and Rafalski, I wouldn't overpay to keep them. Lou will have to make some really smart and difficult decisions this off season. Again, I have no problem taking one step back, to have a brighter future.

OK, here's my strategy. In game one, Parise scored two and Lecavalier scored two. In game two they both scored one, and the same in game three. So to stop Lecavalier from scoring we simply need to not dress Parise. :sarcasm:

EDIT: Note how in that Everson article he talks about Lecavalier's "magic" that has allowed him to score four goals in three games - with no mention of the fact that Parise has done the same?

This is it, our entire season rests on this one game.

I fully believe if every player on this team brings their A game tonight the Devils will win.

Getting that first goal will be absolutely crucial, the Devils are a different team when playing with a lead. Not to mention the 1st team to score has won every game so far.

They are an even better team when playing from behind... When Brodeur becomes determined, nothing gets by him. The problem is we are sorely missing Stevens and Neidermeyer.

Theres always hope. I saw us come back from a 3-1 deficit before in the playoffs and then on to win the cup. This is only 2-1 and our team is capable of doing it. They just need a better strategy. The other team is not out-playing us, just out-thinking us.

Look at that shot by Lecavalier through Brodeur's legs. He KNEW Brodeur was going to open up. He definately studied all the replays of Brodeur's habits.

I think luck was heavily involved with that goal. Lecavalier isn't super human, he doesn't know what Marty is doing. We just have to tighten up, play sound hockey. If you look at TB's goals, most of them should have been harmless or stopped. Richards's shot hits Luko's stick, Lecavalier wrap around goes off of Raffi's stick, Lecavalier and St. Louis score from a ridiculous angle and get a fortuitous outcome, and when do we give up a 3 on 2 that turns into a 2 on 1 when we are on the powerplay, that is just not Devils hockey. If we tighten up and play Devils hockey we should have no problems. And stay out of the box, TB relies so heavily on their powerplay cuz they only have a handful of guys that can score, albeit stars, and they are all out there on the pp. Marty will play lights out and we will take it to them, going back to the swamp tied up 2-2. Forgive me if this sentiment has been posted already, as I've been away from the boards for a little while, but I sure hope the rest of the team goes out there tonight and tries to mimic Parise. He isn't the only guy playing with real playoff urgency but he's one of only a few on this team (Maddolfo, Greene, Langs and maybe Brylin are pretty much the only others who have impressed me in this series). If everyone goes out there with our future captain's passion we have a legitimate shot at the Cup, not just eliminating the Bolts.

I want to say that I did overreact on Monday night after our Game 3 loss. In terms of watching the games, we were outplayed for the majority of the series, but after looking at the scores I've realized we're not far behind at all. We played a decent game to start the series and in games 2 and 3 we were behind by only a goal. Maybe the dominance by Tampa will continue (I get the feeling it will) but we definitely have the chance to eke out a few victories.

I believe we can come out strong tonight. I'm really excited for this game and I'm hoping our guys can come out with some fire and take this one. It's not cutting in and out, but it is having quite a few lag issues.

If you're referring to the "be right back" screen, it does that for all the commercials and intermissions (though sometimes their timing sucks).
