I went to the game, here's my lone criticism

I was shocked to find out that whoever chose the Three Star Selection decided to go all Ducks. That was a 2-1 game, and up to the millisecond that Dustin Penner scored the GWG, Backstrom was so far and away the #1 star it wasn't even a question. That they didn't award him #2 or #3 is a joke. I know it's a homer thing, but let's be reasonable. The Ducks could have had a 5 or 6 goal lead the way they were buzzing around the net in period one. No exaggeration. Backstrom was the key for the Wild.

I sat in 218, just a couple rows down from BillyMac and the FSN table, and I was amused that he had a beer. Hell, I know it's "just" a beer, but he was working. OK, call it "surprised" rather than "amused."

1) Everyone knows that 3 stars has a huge home bias.
2) 3 stars also have a huge bias to the winning team.
2) Caring about 3 stars is retarded.

Aside from the fact that you numbered these items as 1, 2 and 2... Calling someone retarded that cares about something that you don't care about only serves to intimate that you're twelve.

I agree with tubby (did i just say that?)

Backstrom deserved to be #1... and to be honest, I thought Niedermayer was our best player and he wasn't voted on... He really slowed down Gaborik and co big time, but Pahlson and Selanne both had great games too so its hard to pick one.

He didnt call you retarded, and what kind of responses did you really expect? The three stars selection is the least important thing that is on everyones' minds. I couldnt have cared less if they chose 3 Wild players.

Sorry, didn't mean to call you retarded, I really meant that the 3 Stars are retarded. One of the most useless things in the NHL.

LOL, the 1, 2, 2 thing was an accident. I added in the winning team bias thing after the other two points and forgot to change the last one to a 3. I'm a retard.

BTW, I'm 29 and only act like a 12 year on message boards. In real life, I'm as mature as a 15 year old.

Let's make one thing clear: who gets the stars is totally irrelevant, I really couldn't give a flying **** even if they had given all 6 stars to Mark Hartigan or Derek Boogaard.

I laugh at people who get worked up because of star player selections.

Backstrom can be #1 star every game as long as the Ducks win the series.

All the three stars can go to the Wild as long as the Ducks win.

Sure, Backstrom should have gotten a star, but it's not like it's a completely new thing that the press favor the home team. That's always the way it's been, and in this case Anaheim controlled the play for the majority of the game. With the exception of Backstrom, there was no standout player for the Wild, and in his case, I really think Anaheim could have gotten far better chances by making him move laterally more. The times they did do this, they missed the net or (in Perry's case) took way too long to get the shot off.

I honestly think Anaheim made Backstrom look a bit better than they should have. Not to say he didn't play great, because he did, but when he's challenging that high you're probably not going to get many shots past him without moving him.

Yea I couldnt believe Backstrom didnt get one. I was thinking Backstrom, Penner, Selanne in that order, but hey its just 3 Stars.

Actually that makes sense. Intimate can mean something to the effect of "imply."

Yeah I felt Backstrom should have gotten a star. It's kind of funny though because while the stars are normally kind of homerish, I've felt that the stars chosen at the Ponda tended to be less so than most. It tended to be formulaic in the winning team #1, losing team #2, winning team #3 for close games. But all three Ducks chosen did have great games.

Are you sure about the three stars being less homerish at the Honda Center? I wish I had time to research this online, but it seems like when the Ducks win at home, the three stars are almost always all Ducks, no matter how close the game is.

I'm glad the only criticism is of the 3 star selection. OF all the things that could suck or be crappy, this would be the one I'd always choose over all other aspects of hockey and the game/presentation etc if one of them had to be crappy.

For further evidence that the 3 Stars are the dumbest thing ever...

2-0 Stars over Vancouver

3 Stars:
1) DAL - Zubov, 0G, 1A, +2
2) VAN - H. Sedin, 0G, 0A, -1
3) DAL - Turco, 35 Saves, Shutout

Does anyone else see something wrong with this?

They always interview the #1 star on the ice after the game. I wonder if Backstom would have really enjoyed being interviewd as the #1 star after Minnesota lost the game.

Well who cares who is the #1 star. The team that wins is the important thing.

I went to the game tonight too, and my only criticism is how damn slow the game was. From the trapping to the many penalties to the constant offsides and whistles... I know that standing up at the blue-line and forcing minnesota to dump it in or go offsides is a GOOD thing, but man, it was painful at times.

Damn it.... you are right. Okay, I stand corrected. I would just expect that when someone uses the word "intimate" it might get at least a giggle.:naughty:
