Went on a little bit of a rant last night, due to Pittsburgh beating us at our own game. And that's dam scary when you think about. We were totally outplayed by them.

As for tonight, no Gio, no Elias and Madden spells trouble. I don't know if we have the cap room to bring up anyone from Lowell. This could be the scenario that Everson wrote about that might come true and was mocked by most us. We will see.

We're definitely in big trouble now...everything is just going so wrong these days. We're in huge slump and we just keep losing. Sure last week was nice, but we shouldn't forget that we lost three straight games prior to the wins against Pens and Buffalo.

We do not have any room to bring someone up. We can send Janssen and Greene down. That would free up enough cap space to bring Fraser, Clarkson/Tallckson and Pelley up.

When Elias, Madden and Gio get back, we send Fraser, Tallackson/Clarkson and Pelley back to Lowell and bring back Janssen and Greene to New Jersey.

That' what I'd do at least.

At this point, I think we have to go with what we have for tonight, unless Lou has already done something like that.

Lets just hope that Marty has yet another amazing game, and that the ZZ Pop(or CJ's Man Trick) line can step it up.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but every team has a maximum of 4 call ups between now and the playoffs. Your suggestion involves 5 call ups.

If we see a lineup that looks anything like the scrubs we put out last night after Elias and Madden went down, we're doomed.

I'm talking about:

Parise-Zajac-Dowd (good obviously besides Dowd)
Rupp-Gomez-Langenbrunner (decent)
Rassmussen-Brylin-Janssen

We looked like last year's Capitals.

I'm actually glad the Devils are playing again tonight - I'm still pissed about last night's game, so hopefully they can get that bad taste out of my mouth with a solid effort tonight.

Have Madden and Elias already been ruled out for tonight? I thought one of the articles made it sound like Madden would be back.

Also, anyone think that the departure of long-time trainer Bill Murray has anything to do with the rash of recent injuries? They were historically one of the least injured teams - he leaves, and look what happens. Probably doesn't have too much to do with it - just a thought.

I would have a little more confidence going into tonights game if the ZZ-Pop line was playing like they're capable of, but they haven't. Not terrible, but not great either. Even Zach has kind of disappeared a bit lately. Maybe he's tired, because he just doesn't seem like himself.

I didn't realize Murry had left. I was thinking earlier this season that the training staff was doing a sub-par job. When Gomez came back from his groin injury, he also re-injured it in his first game back. Just like what happened to Gionta. After those two situations I was thinking that the training staff is doing the Devils a disservice by allowing these guys to come back from injuries before they are ready.

Best possible time. Unless we totally collapse, we wont miss playoffs. In addition to this, we have time before playoffs to get our players back in shape.

The worst possible time is if we were fighting for a PO spot, or in Playoffs itself.

If we are missing Madden and Elias, this is the game where people need to step up their game. Gomez needs to become a leader out there. Rupp will probably be playing on the first line and he needs to step up also.

This game will show how strong these Devils are and if they can deal with unfortunate and unlucky circumstances. Every single person on the ice needs to do what is asked of them and nothing less.

Well it sort of does give us $4M in cap space. Obviously most of the contract is paid out already, but we can now replace up to the equivalent of Gionta's contract, so that would be up to a $4M yearly salary.

Oh I didn't know that. Good for us then. Looks like Matvichuk will be up with us soon then.

Well, not necessarily. If Gionta comes back before the season ends, then the Devils would be caught in a rut if Matvichuk were off the LTIR.

Just to further explain...You were right when it says it frees up about $800k-$1M in cap space for the rest of the year. But you have to figure how much the rest of the players will make for the rest of the season. Matvichuk is probably a $300k cap hit. Clarkson around $180k. Pelley $100k. So you are IN EFFECT freeing up $4M. It's the same ratio.

Damn.. Razz on the first line.. Why is there such hate for Rupp there?

Rupp was less than useless in the time he played with Gomez and Brylin last night against Pittsburgh. He's been on the first power play unit, it's not like Rupp is hurting for minutes.

Good move to put Jamie Langenbrunner up on the first line. Rasmussen...uh...I'd rather have Rupp there.

I'm not saying he hasn't made big saves, because he has. After the allstar game, he hasn't seemed the same. Hes thrown up some shutouts and everything, but looks to be out of position quite a bit. Fun Fact: The Devils are playing not so bad, which is good.

You know what I might like to try, with a fully healthy lineup:

Elias - Zajac - Gionta/Langenbrunner
Parise - Gomez - Langenbrunner/Gionta
Pandolfo - Madden - Clarkson
Rupp - Dowd - Brylin

Jim Dowd was wrecked into the endboards head first, but he's up and he looks shaken.

Penalty to a Hurricane, likely boarding?

Fresh to the Devils, yeah, but he was in his 9th NHL season in 99/00...

Puck seems to roll off everyones stick tonight.

Fixed :)

Everyone is falling and losing the puck out there. Lots of bouncing passes too. Both teams have been unlucky with those tonight.

LOL at Nascar ice comment by Healy. "I got better ice in my drink" :biglaugh:

The Devils got close there! But not quite! Commodore with a biiiiig block to prevent a possible goal.

The Canes killed it but at least the Devils threatened on that one for a bit.

He's playing well, but I wouldn't say standing on his head. The Carolina D is doing a very good job blocking shots and keeping the front of the net clear.

Carolina is like kryptonite to Brad Lukowich.

This game has been fantastic so far, and it's barely halfway over.

Edit: Penalty? :dunno:

The Devils are still the better team on the ice, IMO; but Carolina is trying to make some noise.

Johnny Oduya sits for 2 minutes for...something. Devils will be on the PK.

Carolina is 1 in their last 35 PPs. Hey! That's worse than NJ's recent PP!

Devils on the PK, big scrum along the boards as Staal does his best Sean Avery impression.

I just think he was off balance making a play back to the point, but it doesn't mean the ref has to buy it.

There were a number of times in the first where he didn't want to show the near corner too.

Yeah, it may not have been a dive, but it wasn't a penalty.
