Glad the Sabres gave the Pens a run for their money last night, now the Pens have to come to New Jersey spent to face a well rested Devils team in the swamp.

This game is for the divison title. With a win tonight, I think we have a big enough lead to secure 1st place in the Atlantic and grab the #1 or #2 seed in the conference.

But most importantly, that would alow Gionta to get the proper rest he needs before he rejoins the team before the playoffs.

Pretty amazing special teams stat for the Devils. 322 power plays vs 235 kills. Thats the sign of a disciplined team. Looking forward to tonights matchup.

With such an emotional game yesterday for everyone in Pittsburgh, an emotional day for that matter, then traveling to NJ, todays game has a fraction of the intensity of yesterday. Will be interesting to see how the Penguins play.

I don't expect any miracles and I will not be disappointed with a loss. Here is to a boring game. :cheers:

You don't have to be so modest, the Pens might be a young team but I'd imagine they know the importance of this game. They'll come to play, even if you guys don't believe it.

The way I see it, this is our game to lose. Such an emotional game last night, those Pens have to be even a little drained. Not to mention they are playing Thibault. All the things are set up for a Devils win tonight.

But then again, we do have a way of making back-up goalies look like the guy that WE have.

Thibault really is playing? Eh, my plan for the Devils is still the same. Pound the net and clog the slot. If I recall correctly, Thibault's rebound control isn't a strength and clearing pucks isn't the Pittsburgh defense's strength. I don't care if it's a garbage goals, there will be opportunities and the Devils should take them in force.

In other words, I'm too lazy to re-write my blog post about it.

In Tarrytown NY for business today, just bought a ticket to come down for the game tonight. I forgot they were playing in NJ, or I would have bought tickets ahead of time.. Pumped to go.. I was able to witness the Pens game in WAS when the Pens came back from 4-0 and won in the shootout.. Damn was that a blast..

Yea you have to be a Comcast internet customer to get the Comcast feed. Proxies won't work because it's not based on IP, it's based on if you are signed in under your account.

Recchi or Staal hangs out in front of Marty, and the two wings jump on the puck once its passed to the hashes.

I'm not surprised by the performance. When the Devils get more than 2 days off (no game), they usually get smoked. When the opponents play their G. Backup, NJ makes 'em look like Vezina trophy winners/HoFers.

What ticks me off...the Pens played yesterday...vs BUF...in a game that went to OT. NJ is only 6 points ahead of the Pens and could tie BUF for 1st in the East with a win tonight. Sadly...this is the best the guys have to offer so far... :shakehead.

I'm semi-optimistic about the 3rd period. Despite the goal, which did nothing to measure either team's performance, the Devils have gotten better as the game goes along. Meanwhile, the Pens have not been as effective at pressuring the Devils in their own end as they were in the 1st.

The Devils may be down one, but they have had the better quality chances all night, and the passing has been better in the 2nd than it was in the 1st. *fingers crossed*

I have to give Pittsburgh credit. They out-Deviled the Devils tonight.
They played a real solid forechecking, solid backchecking, skating defensive scheme hockey game. Reminded me a little of the 2000/2001 teams with their nice forecheck.

Andy Greene looks timid out there. He's going to grow into a great defenseman, but he's not quite there yet and the forecheck threw him off his game.

Our offense was about as effective as a wet noodle, also - if Elias is hurt to go along with Gionta we could be in big trouble. I don't want to give up the division like the Rangers did last season.

Didn't sound like the most spirited effort tonight, but they get to get right back at it tommorow. Hopefully Elias is OK. Playing without Gionta sucks enough as it is, and we can't afford to lose another forward out of our Top 6.

I am utterly disgusted and embarrassed to be a Devils fan right now. And you guys all laughed at me when I said the Pens can catch us. HA!

Still not sure what you mean, as I've been posting the same opinion here for the last month: No-show offense with goal scoring by committee, no-name defense playing above expectations, special teams that continue to get worse as the season is ending and exceptional goaltending.

Despite contending for 1st in the Conference, we're really not playing that well. Neither are most of the top teams in the East except Pittsburgh. We've bee playing under .500 hockey over the last month.

Nope. We're fine. Tonight was just another bad game on many levels. But look at our team and what is going on. Injuries galore. That is what is worrying me. We're getting messed up injury-wise.

It's not out of the question but it is still hard to do. 12 games is not a lot of games, especially when there is no more games against each other. They have to essential win 2 more games down the stretch. So if the Devils go .500 down the stretch (and I think they will be better than that) the Penguins have to 8 out of 12.

The easiest way to make up a bunch of points is through head-to-head games and the Pens don't have anymore. Unlike the Devils last year who had 2 games against both the Flyers and Rangers the last week or so in the season.

So, Elias is hurt? I heard something about him when Doc/Chico showed that he left the gamea fter his shift was up. What exactly happened to him? Also, what happened to Madden? I thought I heard Doc say that he wasn't there or something?

Disappointing loss, and you can't tell me that, that goal off of Zajac's stick was not a fluke. Everything went downhill it seems after that and Madden's breakaway. I was all caught up on the game from highlights after work and seeing the 3rd period. I can't believe we were shutout by the freakin' Pens. Am I the only one annoyed by this team every time we play them?

Hopefully Elias and Madden are in the game tomorrow unless its serious, then I'd keep them out till they can come back. This hurts our top line and we need Madden for our faceoffs and his defensive abilities, so hopefully its nothing too bad.

Letting Gionta come back against Boston was a huge mistake it turned out to be...he would've been eligible for retroactive injury reserve. Now we would've had cap space to call people up, but that comeback against Boston screwed things up for us...
