A_Mack17 03-14-2007, 08:58 AM LETS GO DEVILS LETS GO
should be a good game!
Easton 03-14-2007, 09:12 AM Congrats to the Pens on their arena agreement. They'll come out in a "fleury" more than ever.
Henry Killinger 03-14-2007, 09:30 AM The two articles on Luko were very good reads. Classy guy. Team first.
Should be a great game tonight. Lets go Devs!
DevilDog 03-14-2007, 10:08 AM Glad the Sabres gave the Pens a run for their money last night, now the Pens have to come to New Jersey spent to face a well rested Devils team in the swamp.
Devils win tonight and they're tied for first place in the East!!
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 10:46 AM Come out with some fight tonight boys! This is our last matchup against Sid the Kid and his fellow Ice Birds.
As long as the Devils can dictate the play and keep the pressure up offensively, they will win.
LETS GO DEVILS!!!
jkrdevil 03-14-2007, 11:00 AM This game will be online through Comcast tonight. Maybe even in HD.
Colin Whites Eye 03-14-2007, 11:43 AM lets get it done tonight!
a win and we take the season series 6-2
Marty's Bread Basket 03-14-2007, 11:50 AM I hope the Devils don't come out sleeping after a 3 day break...
midg14* 03-14-2007, 12:49 PM This might be my last game at CAA. So they better win:)
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 01:01 PM Gionta status?
DEVILS ALL THE WAY 03-14-2007, 01:05 PM This game is for the divison title. With a win tonight, I think we have a big enough lead to secure 1st place in the Atlantic and grab the #1 or #2 seed in the conference.
But most importantly, that would alow Gionta to get the proper rest he needs before he rejoins the team before the playoffs.
TaiMaiShu 03-14-2007, 01:09 PM Wow it feels like it's been forever since their last game... GO Devils!
DevilDog 03-14-2007, 01:19 PM Gionta status?
Out tonight AND tomorrow per the Ledger.
Drewr15 03-14-2007, 01:35 PM Wow it feels like it's been forever since their last game... GO Devils!
It does for some reason doesn't it? Its good though, with the rash of injuries I think a few guys needed the rest.
Let's Go Devils!
1penzfan 03-14-2007, 01:37 PM Pretty amazing special teams stat for the Devils. 322 power plays vs 235 kills. Thats the sign of a disciplined team. Looking forward to tonights matchup.
Pens75 03-14-2007, 01:38 PM With such an emotional game yesterday for everyone in Pittsburgh, an emotional day for that matter, then traveling to NJ, todays game has a fraction of the intensity of yesterday. Will be interesting to see how the Penguins play.
I don't expect any miracles and I will not be disappointed with a loss. Here is to a boring game.
(you know I couldn't resist the opportunity to throw that in there :D)
Big McLargehuge 03-14-2007, 01:46 PM I don't think there's a sane Penguins fan alive predicting a win tonight.
Just don't be too brutal on us, please...

DevilDog 03-14-2007, 01:49 PM Just scored 2 tix for tonight for $50 thanks to the discount thread!
GIMME A D!!
Jesse 03-14-2007, 02:05 PM Thibault in net for the Guins' tonight. Could be brutal.
Best of luck to you.
Brooklyndevil 03-14-2007, 02:05 PM Devils really need to come out with a strong effort tonight. We might just meet these guys in the playoffs. Should be an interesting game.
Marty's Bread Basket 03-14-2007, 02:10 PM Thibault in net for the Guins' tonight. Could be brutal.
Best of luck to you.
Uh oh.................
I hate backups. They seem to do amazingly good against the Devils.
jerseydevil 03-14-2007, 02:15 PM Devils really need to come out with a strong effort tonight. We might just meet these guys in the playoffs. Should be an interesting game.
I agree..should be a good game tonight..I just love the fact that not one team in the entire Eastern Conference wants to face the Devils in the playoffs...Definitely have the mental edge over 99% of the teams..
Big McLargehuge 03-14-2007, 02:27 PM Stop calling us boring :D
Agree to disagree. ;)
MissionHockey 03-14-2007, 02:37 PM I don't think there's a sane Penguins fan alive predicting a win tonight.
Just don't be too brutal on us, please...
You don't have to be so modest, the Pens might be a young team but I'd imagine they know the importance of this game. They'll come to play, even if you guys don't believe it.
AfroThunder396 03-14-2007, 02:43 PM The way I see it, this is our game to lose. Such an emotional game last night, those Pens have to be even a little drained. Not to mention they are playing Thibault. All the things are set up for a Devils win tonight.
But then again, we do have a way of making back-up goalies look like the guy that WE have.
Buzzed Penguin 03-14-2007, 03:44 PM I'm conflicted over your avatars. They are so utterly cool that I have to like them, but the message is so utterly disheartening that I have to hate them. Hmmmmmm...it's a conundrum.;)
Anyhow...Good Luck Tonight. We are both a pretty safe bet for the playoffs so I hope and pray that tonight is injury free above everything else.
OnMyOwn 03-14-2007, 03:45 PM good luck tonight guys, hopefully it has a lot of energy, and the teams come out and play solid 60 min hockey.
Drewr15 03-14-2007, 03:47 PM I'd like to echo the hope of no injuries tonight and I'd also like to say congrats on the Pens new arena deal. Glad they are staying. :handclap:
Henry Killinger 03-14-2007, 03:52 PM It's a little disheartening to see that the Janssen smack talk has already begun on the Penguin's GDT.
Oh well, what can you do?
DevilDog 03-14-2007, 03:54 PM It's a little disheartening to see that the Janssen smack talk has already begun on the Penguin's GDT.

Here's to hoping he really gives them something to cry about.
Tao Jones 03-14-2007, 04:05 PM Here's to hoping he really gives them something to cry about.
An assist would be more than plenty for me.
Rochester22 03-14-2007, 04:20 PM For those who want to watch the game but don't have TV access.
Comcast will stream the game tonight http://www.comcast.net/sports/nhl/hockeylive/
I don't have Comcast cable, but last time i tried it worked, so lets pray it works again:handclap:
DevilFisch 03-14-2007, 04:22 PM Thibault really is playing? Eh, my plan for the Devils is still the same. Pound the net and clog the slot. If I recall correctly, Thibault's rebound control isn't a strength and clearing pucks isn't the Pittsburgh defense's strength. I don't care if it's a garbage goals, there will be opportunities and the Devils should take them in force.
In other words, I'm too lazy to re-write my blog post about it.
HBK27 03-14-2007, 04:26 PM Just another 30 minutes to kill at work before it's time to head to the game. Should be a great one with some nice tailgating weather - gotta enjoy the one good thing about the Meadowlands before the team moves!
HBK27 03-14-2007, 04:34 PM It's a little disheartening to see that the Janssen smack talk has already begun on the Penguin's GDT.
Oh well, what can you do?
Why would Pens fans have a beef with Janssen? Did something happen between him and one of their players that I'm forgetting about?
Either way, I hope he lays a couple of nice hits tonight if people are already yapping about him.
JRZ DVLS 03-14-2007, 04:37 PM Why would Pens fans have a beef with Janssen? Did something happen between him and one of their players that I'm forgetting about?

Maybe it hs to do with Armstrong Elbowing Luk. But it's not like Cam would fight Armstrong anyway.
Marty30 03-14-2007, 04:47 PM Im feeling good about this game tonight, im thinkin 4-1 devils.
P.S how do i get my playoff avatar as my avatar?
NJ-Trap 03-14-2007, 05:05 PM Thibault in net for the Guins' tonight. Could be brutal.
Best of luck to you.
A backup goalie? We could be in for a long night...
bozz723* 03-14-2007, 05:30 PM 5-2 Pens victory.
Devs will be 4 points ahead and in a tough division battle after this game.
Now that is definitely NOT boring.
Emmet Otter 03-14-2007, 05:45 PM Devils have better see this as an extremely important game. If we lose this, pens will be right up on our ***** by 4 points.:amazed:
Jersey Fresh 03-14-2007, 05:47 PM I'll be there! I'll be the obnoxious drunk kid in the cheapest seats I can find. :D
In Tarrytown NY for business today, just bought a ticket to come down for the game tonight. I forgot they were playing in NJ, or I would have bought tickets ahead of time.. Pumped to go.. I was able to witness the Pens game in WAS when the Pens came back from 4-0 and won in the shootout.. Damn was that a blast..
Good luck, and be nice! :D
Inklings 03-14-2007, 05:57 PM Pens are going to win this one for the sabres.
bense27 03-14-2007, 05:59 PM Thibault in net for the Guins' tonight. Could be brutal.
Best of luck to you.
will probably cause us to underestimate you and lose. So congrats on the win!:handclap:
Brooklyndevil 03-14-2007, 06:13 PM Am I on the wrong GDT thread? I thought this was the Devils board. :dunno:

colby armstrong saying he didn't elbow and he didn't see a replay he "just barreled through him." seeing the replay again it just confirms he threw an elbow and then tried to conceal it.

If Luko doesn't care, then I don't care. Hopefully we answer back with crisp passing, excellent scoring chances, and good Defense.

Yeah but we won't get any of that from Janssen, so I hope he answers back the only way he knows how.
i think julien will still roll players, he said as much.
Classic Devil 03-14-2007, 07:37 PM The comcast feed is WORKING for me!

jkrdevil 03-14-2007, 07:42 PM I hate my internet, it constant kicks out which distrupts the stream.
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 07:44 PM They look rustyyyyy.
DevilFisch 03-14-2007, 07:45 PM After some sloppy play in their own zone, Gomez dishes to Elias who makes a sweeeeet pass to Brylin who takes a hard shot. I note this because the crowd went "oooooh" after the pass.
DevilsFan1973 03-14-2007, 07:46 PM Anybody know whether the game is on sopcast or TVU? I tried Comcast but it tells me that it's blackout in my area. I guess being from Canada, I can't get the feed. Yea you have to be a Comcast internet customer to get the Comcast feed. Proxies won't work because it's not based on IP, it's based on if you are signed in under your account.

DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 07:54 PM Our passing sucks tonight. Sucks baaaaad.

I agree, especially Greene, he needs to practice taking the puck up the ice from behind the net more.
Seemed like the wingers couldn't chip the puck out of the zone. But I thought the chances were still pretty even.
Chances may have been even, but there's no denying the fact that the Pens had Rafalski and friends pinned behind the net half the period. Like I noted before, the Pens are playing a 1-2-2. Recchi or Staal hangs out in front of Marty, and the two wings jump on the puck once its passed to the hashes.
It's known as a trap when the Devils do it, but the Penguins play it well.

thefiestygoat 03-14-2007, 08:57 PM Damn. 1-0 Penguins. Devils gotta pick up their game now.
PuckStopsHere02 03-14-2007, 08:57 PM Oh no Eddie Spaghetti!

ZZ Pops 03-14-2007, 09:00 PM Rupp and Roberts and they're in the Devils bench!
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 09:00 PM What a bizzaro game. The only line doing well is line #1. Everyone else is so-so.
thefiestygoat 03-14-2007, 09:01 PM Damnit, Rupp was fighting Roberts and he let Roberts tackle him into the bench. Someone better step the f up.
DevilsFan1973 03-14-2007, 09:01 PM Roberts getting RUPP'ed up!!! :handclap:
that was a sweet trip on martin. oh well, things are going the pens way tonight, can't fight against luck.

ZZ Pops 03-14-2007, 09:08 PM I laughed.
You think Rupp won that?
Well, Rupp was winning it.
Till he got tossed in the bench. :D
roberts certainly win it. you would have throw a punch, all he did was hug and the push rupp against the bench when he was swinging. it was obvious he wanted to make a statement but not actually fight.
roberts certainly DIDN'T win it.
can't edit.

NJ_Devil_Boy 03-14-2007, 09:15 PM I'm not surprised by the performance. When the Devils get more than 2 days off (no game), they usually get smoked. When the opponents play their G. Backup, NJ makes 'em look like Vezina trophy winners/HoFers.
What ticks me off...the Pens played yesterday...vs BUF...in a game that went to OT. NJ is only 6 points ahead of the Pens and could tie BUF for 1st in the East with a win tonight. Sadly...this is the best the guys have to offer so far... :shakehead.
I look at the 'Make Belief' game yesterday and Sundin (yeah, Mr. Soft...the captain) came through in the clutch. Ah yeah Elias...
Note: Pandolfo has played one min more then Elias...and Rasmussen is one min behind. :help:
blame julien then, elias is having a good game.
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 09:17 PM I got a good feeling about the 3rd period guys! :)
GO DEVILS!!!
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 09:18 PM Note: Pandolfo has played one min more then Elias...and Rasmussen is one min behind. :help:
That has nothing to do with Crosby being on the ice... does it?
Randal Graves 03-14-2007, 09:20 PM I'm semi-optimistic about the 3rd period. Despite the goal, which did nothing to measure either team's performance, the Devils have gotten better as the game goes along. Meanwhile, the Pens have not been as effective at pressuring the Devils in their own end as they were in the 1st.
The Devils may be down one, but they have had the better quality chances all night, and the passing has been better in the 2nd than it was in the 1st. *fingers crossed*
This is the kind of scenario Gio would be nice for.

bense27 03-14-2007, 09:36 PM I often wonder how we are in 2nd place. Because the more I think about it, the Devils really aren't that good of a hockey team. You could say because of Marty but he has been ******** the bed lately too.

Brooklyndevil 03-14-2007, 09:37 PM That was horrible. They looked like a lazy five man unit that was just content it watching the pens cycle until a man got open for a score. The devils are very slow to the puck tonight. And you watch, Pittsburgh will play trapping boring hockey come playoffs, just like tonight. And this game is putting me to sleep, that's how boring the Pens are playing.

Classic Devil 03-14-2007, 09:53 PM I have to give Pittsburgh credit. They out-Deviled the Devils tonight.
They played a real solid forechecking, solid backchecking, skating defensive scheme hockey game. Reminded me a little of the 2000/2001 teams with their nice forecheck.
Andy Greene looks timid out there. He's going to grow into a great defenseman, but he's not quite there yet and the forecheck threw him off his game.
Our offense was about as effective as a wet noodle, also - if Elias is hurt to go along with Gionta we could be in big trouble. I don't want to give up the division like the Rangers did last season.
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 09:53 PM This sucks. Elias left, Madden left, no urgency, crappy passing...

I know that, but with the the Pens staying in Pitt now... The fans will go ape **** in the playoffs. With the talent they have both young and old, they will be a very very tough team to beat. Especially at home. I just rather not have to play them.
Muttley 03-14-2007, 09:58 PM Now that the euphoria of beating Buffalo has passed, some disturbing stats:

Defense is no longer as tight as it used to be, but still is keeping us in our games despite our non-existent offense.
Special teams continue to get worse: PP has probably fallend to 17th in the league

Very true. I just don't like our chances of being able to beat them. If they play like they did tonight, what chance would we have? We don't have the type of offense like theirs. Those kids were flying out there. It's not like we dominate them, even when we do beat them.

DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 10:05 PM Tonight was by far a fluke game starting off with a fluke goal. I'm pissed because it seems like this every time this team has a break of 3 or more days. They get rusty so quickly.
Also, we beat the Penguins 5/8 times this year and shut them out like twice? I'd love to beat them in Playoffs with a fully healthy team.

What do you want to change the breakout too. It's a breakout they are all essentially play they just need to execute it better.
Also I must have missed the memo about Pen catching and passing the Devils. Last time I checked even with tonights win they are still behind us by multiple games in the standings.

Still not sure what you mean, as I've been posting the same opinion here for the last month: No-show offense with goal scoring by committee, no-name defense playing above expectations, special teams that continue to get worse as the season is ending and exceptional goaltending.
Despite contending for 1st in the Conference, we're really not playing that well. Neither are most of the top teams in the East except Pittsburgh. We've bee playing under .500 hockey over the last month.
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 10:14 PM they are only 4 points behind. Both teams have 12 games remaining. Definitely not out of the question.
It will be a close one... but its our Division this year... we've beaten our division rivals in all the season series.
Pens defeated 5/8 times.
Rags defeated 5/8 times.
Flyers defeated 6/7 times.
Isles defeated 4/6 times... If we beat them one more time, we won the season series.
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 10:15 PM Is it bad i'm not worried?
Nope. We're fine. Tonight was just another bad game on many levels. But look at our team and what is going on. Injuries galore. That is what is worrying me. We're getting messed up injury-wise.
jkrdevil 03-14-2007, 10:15 PM I'd enjoy it... because in my gut, I know we would win it.

It's not out of the question but it is still hard to do. 12 games is not a lot of games, especially when there is no more games against each other. They have to essential win 2 more games down the stretch. So if the Devils go .500 down the stretch (and I think they will be better than that) the Penguins have to 8 out of 12.
The easiest way to make up a bunch of points is through head-to-head games and the Pens don't have anymore. Unlike the Devils last year who had 2 games against both the Flyers and Rangers the last week or so in the season.
Randal Graves 03-14-2007, 10:22 PM Still not sure what you mean
I'm not doubting your points, the team has suffered greatly from the loss of Gionta. I'm just saying your ability to point these things out is as reliable as clockwork. That's not necessarily an insult, more a comment on your tenacity.
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 10:24 PM Gionta has been out 10~11 games now... Now Elias is hurt... Things are just going to get harder.

:biglaugh: yeah dude. there are certain games I can handle and certain ones I just want to cry. Like tonight.
Cry_Wolf 03-14-2007, 10:33 PM So, Elias is hurt? I heard something about him when Doc/Chico showed that he left the gamea fter his shift was up. What exactly happened to him? Also, what happened to Madden? I thought I heard Doc say that he wasn't there or something?
Disappointing loss, and you can't tell me that, that goal off of Zajac's stick was not a fluke. Everything went downhill it seems after that and Madden's breakaway. I was all caught up on the game from highlights after work and seeing the 3rd period. I can't believe we were shutout by the freakin' Pens. Am I the only one annoyed by this team every time we play them?
Hopefully Elias and Madden are in the game tomorrow unless its serious, then I'd keep them out till they can come back. This hurts our top line and we need Madden for our faceoffs and his defensive abilities, so hopefully its nothing too bad.
bense27 03-14-2007, 10:34 PM how many times have we been shutout this season?
Devilswede 03-14-2007, 10:35 PM Letting Gionta come back against Boston was a huge mistake it turned out to be...he would've been eligible for retroactive injury reserve. Now we would've had cap space to call people up, but that comeback against Boston screwed things up for us...
Pray to God that Elias and Madden are okay....
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 10:35 PM At this moment, depending on the severity of the injuries, we may have to sacrifice some games in order to be healthy for playoffs.

Jamie1 03-14-2007, 10:50 PM Forward lines as of right now, assuming significant injury to Madden and Elias.
xxxxx - Gomez - xxxxx
Parise - Zajac - Langenbrunner
Brylin - xxxxx - Pandolfo
Rupp - Dowd - Janssen
Adjusted for future games:
Brylin - Gomez - Rupp
Parise - Zajac - Langenbrunner
Janssen - Dowd - Pandolfo
I dunno... :dunno:
I'd put Parise or Langenbrunner with Gomez. I'm not too sold on having Rupp and/or Brylin on the first line.
this is when the cap is hurting us. 3+ major injuries.

Rasmussen Pelley Janssen
That's not a typo, they'll prob double shift Ras/Rupp
DevFan-RU- 03-14-2007, 10:52 PM This is the time for many 3rd and 4th liners to shine. They will get so much playing time now out of neccesity.
To be honest guys... this is a playoff worst case scenario, and thankfully we're not in playoffs.
Z-Z Pop1915 03-14-2007, 10:53 PM Im not really freaking out right now, but its very disheartening to see top players on your team go down. What the heck is it?? Is Julien overworking them in practice or something? Every damn game its somebody new. But lets just get this all out of our system.
The way I see it, I dont want to catch Buffalo, but I us to finish with the top spot in the Atlantic. I hate the Pens and I couldnt bear endure the NHL, getting on their knees for these guys. Going into the playoffs, this team will be most dangerous, if we are kinda flying under the radar, have all our guys healthy, have Matvitchuk, and are starting to get hot. I dont like going into the playoffs on a hot streak like we did last year. Sure its great for the first round sweep, but we all know what happen during the Carolina series.
Now isnt the time to panic, because this is exactly how this board was after the Boston and Philly loss, and what do you know, we beat Pitt and Buffalo in a matter of 3 days. After we lose games like this we usually show up pretty strong the next night. Take the Washington loss for example a few weeks ago.
We're still up four points.
Randal Graves 03-14-2007, 10:55 PM tough luck with all those injuries. i hate to see injuries do so much to a team (unless that team is the flyers ;) )
Yeah, hopefully it's not serious. They likely took a dive so Lou can make more cap room ;)
Those sneaky Devils.
Jersey Fresh 03-14-2007, 10:55 PM Super crappy game. Just an all out terrible effort.
The only saving grace was being able to make fun of these Canadian Penguin fans who thought it would be cool to write 'Pirates' on their chest. :help:
Devilswede 03-14-2007, 10:56 PM Forward lines as of right now, assuming significant injury to Madden and Elias.
xxxxx - Gomez - xxxxx
Parise - Zajac - Langenbrunner
Brylin - xxxxx - Pandolfo
Rupp - Dowd - Janssen

Brylin - Gomez - Rupp

Janssen - Dowd - Pandolfo

If Lou doesn't put Gionta on IR, and IF Madden and Elias are out for an extended period of time we'll have to go with 9 forwards. But if the Devils decide that they can afford playing without Gionta in the next 10 games, they can put him on IR and call up Tallackson, Pelley and Vrana/Minard. I doubt they'll call up Bergfors now..
New lines w/o Elias, Gionta and Madden:
Rupp/Minard - Gomez - Tallackson
Parise - Zajac - Langenbrunner
Pandolfo - Brylin - Rasmussen
Pelley - Dowd - Janssen

Crap luck. Simple as that.
This team will manage... somehow.
Easton 03-14-2007, 10:57 PM I'm betting Elias and Madden will be in the lineup for tomorrow's game. Unless they were crawling on their way off the ice, I don't think they'll miss any time. Elias definitely wasn't, he hardly grimaced in any pain in that replay they showed.

That would be badass, lol. But ya, no way that would be possible. rrrigght???:naughty:

Haven't you heard? Lou can perform miracles. I heard that one time he turned water into Koolaid!

Didn't he also walk on water and cure the sickly.
Jiri Bicek 03-14-2007, 11:25 PM Just got back: :pullhair: :banghead:
The End
Easton 03-14-2007, 11:44 PM Not sure if anyone mentioned this already but the AP article says that both Elias and Madden pulled their groin.
