Anyone know why he wanted put of NJ? He is a good young right handed Defenseman that we could use.

$$$ Didn't think he would get his net worth with the Devs.

I don't think Lou was willing to sign him out of college as early as he wanted. Part of me thinks he'd be even better if he stayed in college longer.

Here is a New York Times abstract (http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=FA0A1FFE3F540C778EDDAF0894D84044 82&n=Top%2fReference%2fTimes%20Topics%2fSubjects%2fH% 2fHockey%2c%20Ice) on the arbitrator's ruling:

Van Ryn never signed with Devils, spent one more year at college then played junior hockey in Canada; Devils declared him 'defected' player under collective bargaining agreement but Players Association said he should be declared unrestricted free agent, and arbitrator agreed, resulting in Van Ryn's being able to sign with any team in National Hockey League and remain subject to rookie salary cap, about $1 million; rookies can negotiate performance bonuses, and leverage of unrestricted free agency could increase bonus potential; decision could have long-term implications for NHL and its relationship to college hockey

I remember this now, he is a punk -ass pos that'll never wear a devils sweater. He's been on 3 nhl teams. I wish him failure the rest of his hockey career.

I feel better now!

I feel bad for the kid to a degree - his agent basically screwed him and said listen your better off cutting out of NJ and getting more for your money now i.e. lining the agents pocket while he was still his agent, instead of coming to NJ and learning from Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer oh and Robinson and Fetisov were still on staff at the time as well. These young kids don't know better and don't know how to look ahead, he basically sacrificed for the here and now instead of someone telling him just think what you could be learning from 4 great defenseman. Just so sad. But of course I hate him for pulling the stunt as well and want Cam to run his ass over everytime I see him but I really feel more sad for him getting bad advice when he was young.

Give'em Hell!

Good Lord, this comment is so petty and vindictive. And I completely agree with you, except you forgot to add the crying. Poor Mike often quietly sobs to himself when he reflects on where his poor life choices have left him. Girly sobbing with lots of drool and dribbling snot. Sad really.
