A bargain that we had let slip away

The day Lou drafted Parise I was a huge fan of him. I used to visit the UND website on a regular basis. Beside of Zach I was thrilled with Brandon Bochenski. He was such a talented sniper as a Fighting Sioux and now he proves it as well as a Bruin. We should have acquired him, for example Brylin for Bochenski and a 3rd. I know what Sarge has done for this team but with his departure we could have called up Matvichuk too. And...Imagine, Parise - Zajac - Bochenski on the Devils second line!!!Three players from the UND. What a chemistry...

You want to trade Brylin for a player that was put on waivers?

Bochenski doesn't cut it in the NHL...

The guy is very young and has already played for three NHL teams (Ottawa, Chicago, Boston)....something is telling me he's not that good.

Sure, he's on a hot streak now with Boston...but that's very common when you come to a new team. Stanislav Chistov was hot for the Bruins when they acquired him in a trade earlier this season. Haven't heard of him since then.....

At UND he scored 79 goals 75 assists and 154 points in three seasons. (Parise had 116 points in two seasons) This season with Norfolk in the AHL he scored 33 goals 33 assists and 66 points in 35 games and with the Bruins 4 goals and 2 assists in four games! He is not as bad as you think...

The same happened to Olli Jokinen, he played for three different teams in his first three seasons too... (Kings, Islanders, Panthers). And now, he is a number one center...

Olli Jokinen was also a highly regarded prospect who went #3 overall in the 97 draft. Furthermore, every time he was traded it was for significant value coming back, not minor prospects or via waivers.

Brylin has a lot more value than BOchenski and a 3rd.
Brylin has proved to me this year that he is much more valuable than I originally thought.

Furthermore, I wouldn't break up PZL for anything.

Why?

The combo of two talented young guys and a hardened veteran is priceless. Langs has tons to teach the two youngsters, is a calming force when they might be getting frustrated, and takes the lead. Meanwhile, the two youngsters working hard shift after shift only pushes Langs to work harder as well. It's a great give and take.

Secondly, Brylin for a "maybe?" I think you DO underestimate Brylin's role with this team.

Meh we could of picked him off of waivers.

You only need some patience, support and icetime. Bochenski had neither of this in his NHL career in Ottawa and especially in Chicago. I'm sure he will a decent 20 goal scorer in the next years.

Not exactly the same, but Mike Comrie is always shopped around too.

Thats nice that he can do that at the lower levels, but thats what they are, lower levels. Plus any player can have a hot streak ini the NHL. For a while I thought Marcel Hossa was a surefire 1st liner in Montreal, then he came back to Earth. Your suggesting trading Brylin for someone we could have gotten for free? People underrate Brylin here a lot.

Just playing Devils advocate here. Really just pointing out the insanity that is Mike Milbury.

New York Islanders traded Olli Jokien and Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha.

Not exactly significant value! :biglaugh:

I'm not saying he is the brightest star on the sky, but I think he'll be a very good aquisition for the Bruins. Especially at this price. I DO NOT underestimate Brylin, I know what qualities he is bringing for the Devils but he is the only affordable player on our lineup IMO (If there is such a player). He is a hard working two way forward who can play on every forward position and has decent scoring skills too.

Another Foster

Bochenski was healthy and had a chance at the NHL level. Injuries cost Foster to the point where he never had either of those. Its a bad comparison IMO.

No matter how you slice it, he's a dissappointment

No matter how you slice it, he's a dissappointmentHe was a high-risk high-reward draft pick. If he could have overcome his injuries, he would have been a great late-1st Round draft pick in a fairly weak draft.

Has any of you changed your mind about Bochenski? 8 goals, 6 assists and a +7 rating in 14 matches. Is one of the reasons the Bruins are a playoff contender again.

What is it with you people and Brylin? Sarge has more than proven his worth this season, jsut like he does every year, and deserves a lot more respect than he seems to get around here. He's a career Devil and will retire as such.

Do us all a favor and leave him out of your trade proposals, pie in the sky Cap conclusions or whatever else it is that tempts you to dismiss this players value to our team.

Bochenski will fall of and be nothing more than scoring depth for a few more random NHL teams before he fades into the abyss.

I was a big fan of Bochenski's when he was at UND, but there's no way I'd rather have him than Brylin. Sarge brings so much versatility, hard work, and heart that few players can. Bochenski might someday develop into a decent second line winger, but I have my doubts about him lasting long-term in the NHL. I see him maxing out at around 25 goals a season (30 if he's in the right situation, but that's probably pushing it), which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but not at the expense of somebody like Brylin. I think Bochenski will be one of those up-and-down streaky players, but he could prove me wrong.

I watched a lot of college hockey during the lockout because I had CSTV and I loved watching Drew Stafford play. I still want the Devs to deal for him.
