devsfan8 02-13-2007, 12:04 PM Ken Klee's #'s this season for Colorado:
Season GP G A P +/- PIM PP SH GW Shots Pct
2006-2007 54 1 11 12 12 40 0 0 0 54 1.9
He is a +12 and is having a solid season. He makes $700,000 (not a crazy amount of money) Klee was a solid addition to our defense during our 11 game streak that extended into 15 when we swept the Rangers. He made one terrible mistake when he tried to carry the puck out of the zone against Carolina in Round 2 when he should have shot the puck down the ice or fed it of to a teammate.
But otherwise he played well and paired well with Hale. Lou loves to have extra defenseman for the stretch and in the playoffs. He likes the veteran tested defense man. Klee is fine positionally, knows the Devils style, and is someone who would cost at most a 3rd or 4th round pick.
I highly doubt we will see Matvichuk this season. But I think we can bank on him in the playoffs. So Klee and his $700K could fit if they sent down Jannsen or something. Then Lou has a defense like last season add Oduya and subtract Albelin.
Rafalski-White
Martin-Lukowich (Granted MArtin and Oduya are playing together a lot)
Matvichuk-Oduya
Hale-Klee
I actually like it. HE would do a lot more for us then someone like Suglobov (13 games and no goals) has done for Toronto.
I would welcome the addition of Ken Klee at the deadline this season for a mid rounder.
David Puddy 02-13-2007, 12:32 PM I would welcome the addition of Ken Klee at the deadline this season for a mid rounder.I wouldn't. I think he had trouble adjusting to the Devils system. He played a little better as time went on, but I don't think there would be enough time to grasp the system like it took Matvichuk last year and Lukowich this year.
I would rather add Richard Matvichuk from IR than having to give away a draft pick for Ken Klee. I am fairly sure that Matvichuk would have to be activated prior to the start of the playoffs to be eligiable, but I could be wrong.
This looks like a solid defensive corps, certainly better than last year if they are healty:
White - Rafalski
Oduya - Martin
Matvichuk/Hale - Lukowich
Andy Greene could also add depth and a little more offensive if needed for the playoffs.
Jiri Bicek 02-13-2007, 12:38 PM Klee struggled with us early, takin some bad penalties, i think that put a lot of pressure on him.. I think if we aquired him earlier he would have had mroe time to grasp the system, like Puddy said, and been a nice #6 defensemen for us.. I wouldn't think of trading for him however.... I think we have the depth we need and the only thing we need to do at the deadline is try to shed some salary that won't mess with the teams lineup

The Devils style in the latter stages of last season was not much different then this season. Klee fit in well. He made some mistakes but he also made some big plays and was a factor in several games. His #'s are very good and he gets a lot of time as a 2nd line defenseman.
I like what I saw in Greene as well, but I think we both know Lou would rather have a playoff tested, veteran defenseman to add depth then a prospect who has seen only 2 or 3 games this year for the playoffs and stretch.
Randal Graves 02-13-2007, 12:53 PM Dude, its Ken Klee. Let's just try to forget it ever happened.
You know who we should get? Shawn Chambers, or maybe Sean O'Donnell :sarcasm:
The Mad Crapper 02-13-2007, 01:30 PM Bring back Ken Klee? Hell no!!!
Unfortunately, Lou is God...BUT...he has done (IMO) horrible over the past few years at the deadline bringing in a defenseman.
Although Stuart would have been nice grab. But...at this point, I'd rather him stick it out & use who we have currently & try to find a way to get Mativchuk in to play. Or even Greene.
Malakhov, Klee, Smehlik (he really blew dog meat) O'Donnell. All of them were no help.

ooh I forgot about him. The Jan Hrdina of deadline defencemen.

we lost Willie Mitchell for that stiff!
bense27 02-13-2007, 04:57 PM I hate Ken Klee
MissionHockey 02-13-2007, 08:36 PM ooh I forgot about him. The Jan Hrdina of deadline defencemen.
Jan Hrdina had a pretty decent stretch with the Devils for a bit. Although his overal tenure wasn't very good, he ended the regular season and '04 playoffs playing pretty well.
Colin Whites Eye 02-14-2007, 01:57 AM in a word-
no
Chico Resch 02-14-2007, 02:06 AM We don't need "KOAST-2-KOAST KLEE" back in the swamp.
I'm sure theres other cheap-o rental D-man we could add if we needed too. **** are we forgetting about Andy Greene? Or Fraser?

Not forgetting about them. Just would rather have a veteran defenseman then ones that have played 5 NHL games combined.

He had some good games, like Klee, but was overall very lackluster, like Klee.
