Miller or Sopel?

FROM TSA.CA Feb.11th
ST. PETERSBURG TIMES: Damian Cristodero reports the Tampa Bay Lightning appear committed to adding another puck-moving defenceman, with LA's Brent Sopel and Columbus's Bryan Berard as the most intriguing names.

Others who might be of interest to NJ's GM Lou Lamoriello include the Kings' duo of Brent Sopel and Aaron Miller.

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Sheldon Souray will likely leave the team this summer as an unrestricted free agent, but the club isn't going to move him at the trade deadline. The LA Kings could be a potential destination. Any real interest in those guys?

I'd rather have Miller than Sopel, but I don't think a trade for anyone is going to work with our cap situation.

Instead of getting Miller, Sopel or Berard I would rather consider calling up Brian Leetch from retirement :dunno:

Owns a booming point shot and solid offensive potential. Is a great student of the game and willing to play any style necessary.

All I need to know.

Stop with the defensemen, we have Matvichuck. Give me a tough forward who can also score.

Ian Laperierre. 102 PIMS (only 32 PIMS from minors, the others are fighting majors), 18 points, tough as nails.

Rassmussen + Hale/Pick? We only need to clear about $325K in space for the remainder of his salary.

Rupp-Dowd-Laperierre would be a tough and defensively liable 4th line that could even chip a few in.

Laperierre is also a consummate teammate, a real good player for a 3rd/4th liner.

I would like Sopel, he's got a laser from the point, decent skating ability, has learned to play defensively, can QB a power play, and his cap hit is get this......719,000 dollars and his cap hit is going down day by day. Say we get Sopel, Lukowich becomes expendable, I know he's been good, but like yesterday he showed that I don't really trust him in the crunch. We clear enough Salary for Matty to come back and the defense core can be:

Rafalski-Matty
White-Martin
Sopel-Oduya

that's a lot better than Luko and Matty at the same time.

Looked good for the Habs last nigh even if he was in the box a few times. His shot is heavier than Langs is. He has 18 goals 15 on PP! There are only 4 Devs better than that. Yes I know cap space. I thought Lou would get him this off-season, maybe he is a rental for a team and that happens. He co-owns a pizza shop with Marty in Montreal (so there is no tampering just two guys talking) and still has some friends in NJ . Read that he would like to come back. Would somebody like Hale and ? be enough for the Habs to get him? Hale will do better on a team where he gets more minutes. Claude still has friends at the Habs, maybe a deal could be made. Forward is an idea but where woudl you put him. Lou has worked well with interchanging pieces (as always) just a little more production from the Cappy and we are finishing strong. Go nuts beating this idea up
