Everson at it againDevilsfanatic 02-11-2007, 10:32 AM http://www.nypost.com/seven/02112007/sports/devils/devs_push_away_cap_concerns_devils_mark_everson.ht m lol he's such a dummy. pscoln1 02-11-2007, 10:38 AM i think no matter what happens at the end of this season ..... you will still see the majority of this team here next year. David Puddy 02-11-2007, 10:41 AM I agree. I was preparing the GDT earlier, and I wasn't even going to include it because it made me so mad. It's his typical cap-crap, doom-and-gloom, Everson-knows-better-than-Lou drivel. Lou's Koolaid 02-11-2007, 10:51 AM "Mark Everson" He stinks and I don't like him.:shakehead PhillyDevil 02-11-2007, 10:58 AM He still has the wrong cap hit for Madden and there is no way on earth Martin is getting 3 mil coming off of this season. Also, I don't think Gomez is worth 6 mil so if he can get it elsewhere, so be it. David Puddy 02-11-2007, 11:01 AM Also, I don't think Gomez is worth 6 mil so if he can get it elsewhere, so be it.I don't recall the exact number, but Mark N.Everson was writing that Gomez could get $6 million from arbitration last summer. It may even have been $7 million. devils1983 02-11-2007, 11:06 AM Here's a link (http://www.nhlnumbers.com/) that has what the "cap hit" is for the Devils. Madden you can pretty much say is at $3 million....close enough. However, the number that Everson came up with for the signed players next season add up to about $28.6 million. Elias to Parise 02-11-2007, 11:08 AM do fans of other teams have to put up with this B.S?this is our own beat writer and all he does is keep talkin about how screwed we are..im pissed, someone's getting a nasty e-mail right now.. mail. devils1983 02-11-2007, 11:10 AM do fans of other teams have to put up with this B.S?this is our own beat writer and all he does is keep talkin about how screwed we are..im pissed, someone's getting a nasty e-mail right now.. mail. The Devils should jag in his press pass to home games. devils1983 02-11-2007, 11:18 AM Speaking of cap issues....last night on HNIC they were talking about the potential cap issues that could end up in Pittsburgh. This July, the Pens and Crosby can start contract talks for summer 2008. Crosby you know will be asking for the $8 - $9 million range. A year after that you know Malkin, Staal and Fleury will be looking for healthy raises. After this season, the Pens have 6 RFA's to try to resign, I'm sure they'll be asking for raises. Could be interesting to see what unfolds with the Pens over the next 2 seasons. PhillyDevil 02-11-2007, 11:29 AM I don't recall the exact number, but Mark N.Everson was writing that Gomez could get $6 million from arbitration last summer. It may even have been $7 million. I would assume (maybe hope is the better word here) that if Gomez is being offered a long term deal by the Devils, the per year salary won't rise over $5 mil. Basically trading years for $$$ similar to the Elias contract. Time for me to get on the road for the game! bsmack 02-12-2007, 10:44 AM The dude has a borderline unhealthy obsession with Gomez leaving this team whether being traded or via free agency. tailfins 02-12-2007, 11:58 AM The other issue with the Everson article is that he's not considering the make up of the team. Even if his numbers are correct, it'd surprise me that the Devils would just automatically give Rafalski more money before they sign Gomez. With Martin, Oduya and Green as puck moving d-men, Rafalski seems more replaceable than our #1 center. This isn't to say that Lou can't sign everyone, or that the team wouldn't take a hit by losing Rafalski, but it's just surprising that Everson jumps from cap problems = loss of UFA = loss of Gomez. nni 02-12-2007, 12:21 PM umm. why would oduya triple his salary in his second year? parise would be tripling his salary as well according to this tards article. parise i could understand, but not oduya. 21 02-12-2007, 12:56 PM Hmmm I believe Everson may be close. But it doesn't matter now, lets win the cup first! :-) TB Sheets 02-12-2007, 01:09 PM I don't see Rafalski taking an increase this season. He's 33 (34 in September) and facing the downside of his career straight in the face. Frankly, I'm not surprised if his salary goes down a little next year, considering a deal in the 4-year range would bring him to 38 years old. And if he doesn't like it, I'm sure the Devils could bring in another defenseman for $4.2 million. Parise getting $2 million I can see. I'd bet Oduya signs for about a million. Gomez I could see jumping to $6 or $6.5 million, especially since other teams will be offering him money also. Like Elias, he might settle for less if there's a long-term contract with a post-retirement position with the team offered (which is what I assume was offered to Elias). I'll bet Martin makes between $2 and 2.5 million next year. He hasn't had the breakthrough season that'll catapult him into elite defenseman category yet. Hale either gets traded or loses his spot to Greene next year. Luko might not get offered a contract in the off-season. It's really getting tiring reading the same thing coming over and over out of Everson's column, though. Jamie1 02-12-2007, 01:14 PM It's really getting tiring reading the same thing coming over and over out of Everson's column, though. I have to give him credit I thought I'd see a Gomez article alot more than I have. crashlanding 02-12-2007, 01:15 PM Martin will not get 3M, Rafalski certainly won't get 5M, Madden makes 2.9 not 3.9...hey, look, no more cap problem! TaiMaiShu 02-12-2007, 01:38 PM Get your numbers right *******! DevilsFan38 02-12-2007, 02:01 PM Why does anyone even bother to read his articles anymore? If he wrote it, I don't read it. It's just not worth my time. TaiMaiShu 02-12-2007, 02:10 PM Why does anyone even bother to read his articles anymore? If he wrote it, I don't read it. It's just not worth my time. Well I think time is something all HF posters have a lot of. ;) Brooklyndevil 02-12-2007, 05:20 PM I don't recall the exact number, but Mark N.Everson was writing that Gomez could get $6 million from arbitration last summer. It may even have been $7 million. Well, the good news in regards to contract terms is that Gomer had his career year last year. I'm not sure I offer him even 6 million. He should be happy with a long term contract that pays him $5.5 per. And if the Flyers, Rangers or Kings offer him $6 million or more, I say nice knowing you. Feed Me A Stray Cat 02-12-2007, 05:55 PM Martin will not get 3M, Rafalski certainly won't get 5M, Madden makes 2.9 not 3.9...hey, look, no more cap problem! Why won't Rafalski get $5M? He currently makes $4.2M and is having a good season. He's not any worse than the Stuart's and Markov's of the world, so as long as he doesn't take a discount to stay, Raffy will be getting $5M. bense27 02-12-2007, 06:31 PM Here's a link (http://www.nhlnumbers.com/) that has what the "cap hit" is for the Devils. Muttley 02-13-2007, 10:20 PM "Mark Everson" He stinks and I don't like him.:shakehead you know, I had a yet another laugh about Everson as right now, I'm reading Stan Fischler's Pain & Progress: The First 12 Years of the New Jersey Devils, that I found in my local library. Everson was hating this franchise in early June of 1982, which wasn't even Day 1 for this Devils team yet. They hadn't even selected the 'Devils' name yet and he was already knocking the team in his Post columns!!! Man, this guy has been axe-grinding for over 25 years! | ||
