Two parents help Bears find success

Two NHL parent teams are better than one as far as the Hershey Bears are concerned.Thanks to a productive secondary affiliation deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Hershey zoomed to the top of the American League standings entering late November.
The injury-riddled Colorado Avalanche, the Bears’ primary NHL parent, recalled seven players at various times, but rookie coach Paul Fixter still had his team in first place overall with a 12-3-2-2 record.

You just never outgrow the passion for playing hockey outdoors.
It was thrilling to be back on the ice. The reality in life is, at 38 or 39, you are still young, but in professional sports, unfortunately, you are considered to be old. I played professional hockey for 21 years and in those years I went to the Stanley Cup final six times. I went to four Canada Cups, one World Cup and one Olympic Games. That’s a lot of hockey. So when I retired, I knew it was the right time. I was physically and mentally tired, to say the least.
When I said, upon retiring, that I would not play in oldtimers games, I meant it. Others enjoy them, but for me it just didn’t feel right. But when Kevin Lowe called me last summer and explained what the Oilers were doing in celebration of the 25th year of the franchise, I couldn’t resist.
