I don't get to see any of the games just the scoresheets on NHL.com and maybe a highlight here or there on NHL Powerweek, but I can't help but notice that during the current 6 game streak without a win, we have outshot our opponents in pretty much every game, as we did last night.
Are the chances actually just not that good or is it poor finishing. The stats would indicate that we perhaps are not playing that badly and just need a goalie to have a bad night against us. Is this the case? Any feedback would be interesting.
Cheers Rob.

I think last night really summed it up. At the end of the second, Lecavalier, Sarich and Willis had a three on none chance and instead of Vinny shooting, he passed back to Willis who buried it into Prusek shoulder. As the TV commentators said, the Lightning are waiting for things to happen and going out and taking the play to the other team. As with anything in this world, you have to make your own fortunes. Right now the Lightning are just standing around out there waiting for the plays to come to them and they aren't working to create them. It was weeks ago that Tortorella said that the team isn't playing with any 'jam' out there. Only hard work will turn things in our favor again.

There have been plenty of chances, but there are WAY too many shots missing the net, pucks bouncing over sticks, hesitation on scoring attempts, or simply bad decisions made.
Last night, for example, both Boyle and Lecavalier had the puck in the slot with space and hesitated and the puck was knocked away.
Richards (who seemingly can't score a goal to save his life), had the puck bounce over his stick while the goalie was down. That same sequence Andreychuk shot it right back into the goalie, not getting any elevation on the shot.
Afanasenkov missed the net on a semi-break.
Willis and Lecavalier muffed a 3 on 0 when Willis was apparently supposed to give it back to Lecavalier, but instead shot-- but was in too close to do any damage and it hit the top of Prusek's shoulder.
Now, overall, last night the team was terrible from the 2nd period on. Wide open game, but Cullimore had at least 3 bad turnovers resulting in scoring chances. Richards and Boyle both gave the puck up deep in their own zone.
Whenever TB plays Ottawa they revert back to a few years ago when it was like a junior team playing against a bunch of pee wees.
