According to Meckler, the Hawks have alleged that Smith did not get the approval of owner Bill Wirtz for the trade of defenseman Lyle Odelein to the Dallas Stars late last season. The Hawks also are arguing that Smith made bad comments about coach Brian Sutter to the media.
"I consider their position frivolous,'' Meckler said. "The allegations are nonsense. They are trying to fabricate reasons to get out of paying Mike $2 million.''
