Starting Goalies

Anaheim

Nashville
#29 Tomas Vokoun -- 11-4-1, 2.48 GAA, .920 SV%

Things to Look Out For

- A possible fight between George Parros and Darcy Hordichuk.

- Shaky goaltending from Tomas Vokoun who has been out with a finger injury.

- A friendly rivalry between Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne.

Interesting Facts

- Randy Carlyle and Barry Trotz are going to coach the Western Conference All-Stars at the NHL All-Star Game this season.

- The Predators' leading goal scorer is not even in the top five on the team in scoring. Scott Hartnell's 17 goals are not enough since he is in the latter part of Nashville's top 10 scoring leaders.

- My aunt is going to this game with her daughter; unfortunately, she will be cheering for the Predators. That's so sad.

It should be a good one!

Enjoy the game!

I was putting a post together for this game, but unfortunately Blogger is down for maintenance right now. Anyway, here's some tribute stuff for tonight's hero: Sammy P.

Tonight Sammy Pahlsson will be playing in his 238th consecutive game, breaking the Anaheim iron-man streak held by Oleg Tverdovsky (who, by the way, has played in only 22 of 44 games since his L.A. acquisition).

Nobody in the league has it as tough as Sammy, if you believe Behind the Net (http://www.behindthenet.ca/)’s 5-on-5 metrics. He ranks 10 out of 544 in the league in the "Quality of Competition" (http://www.behindthenet.ca/qual_comp.html) metric, and 535 out of 544 in the “5-on-5 Quality of Teammates” (http://www.behindthenet.ca/qual_team.html) metric. He’s playing a plus-5 differential against the NHL’s best night-after-night, and carrying around lugs like Rob N. and Moen while doing it.

PLUS (!), he leads all NHL forwards in SH TOI with 210:44, which is incredibly 73% of Anaheim’s total penalty-killing time. Rob N. ranks second in the league, btw, with 172:48, nearly two periods less!

PLUS (!), he’s done it all while only taking 4 minors, and still leads the team in hits (99), takeaways (32), and faceoff wins (440).

I certainly think there’s a pretty damn strong case not only that Sammy get the Selke Award, but maybe they should consider renaming the award for Pahlsson. He’s a defensive forward’s god.

Unfortunately, though, the Selke will probably go to Rod Brind’Amour, who plays in a much more respectable time zone. To compare, Rod (who is also a +5) plays against easier 5-on-5 opposition (112 of 544) with much better linemates (121 of 544) and does a third of his scoring on the power play. He also has about 60 more PP minutes than SH minutes, but whatever. I’d rather have the Selke-worthy performance than the actual Selke award anyway.

The Refs were terrible for both teams. They missed some rather obvious calls on both teams but called weaker ones.

Solid game from both teams, we dominated the first period while Anaheim dominated mostly the rest of the game. The third period was really tight with both teams refusing to give in.

You guys played a solid game tonight. You guys are really tough to play against and your physical game matches up really well against us. Maybe my favorite moment of the game was when I finally noticed that Niedermayer wasn't on the ice, so I pointed it out to my girlfriend, only to have him step right on the ice.

I did catch the replay on FSN and picked up about where I left off (missed the Penner goal). Robby Nieds had the GWG on his stick, I couldn't believe that. That was an unfortunante goal in the OT period.

Vokun clearly looked weak. The Ducks may have gotten some softies, but I was thoughally impressed with how the offense looked. Best in this last 7 or so game stand. Vokun may have been off his game, but Teemu could have had 8 goals if it wasn't for a matter of inches or bad bounces.

All and all a well played a good 2nd per on, and a loss that is very hard to swallow.

Lets look at the positives...We got 1 point against red-hot Preds in their arena while missing Giguere, Beauchemin and Pronger and some shoddy refereeing.

It could have been worse you know.

EDIT: oh and kids finally got some decent icetime and produced.

Maybe my favorite moment of the game was when I finally noticed that Niedermayer wasn't on the ice, so I pointed it out to my girlfriend, only to have him step right on the ice.

35:51 tonight! Holy crap. He beat his team record from just over a week ago in the Pronger injury game by a whole 1:51!

Maybe my favorite moment of the game was when I finally noticed that Niedermayer wasn't on the ice, so I pointed it out to my girlfriend, only to have him step right on the ice.
re watch that entire 3rd period Ducks play a ton in Nashvilles end and can't get one call? at one point Corey Perry was behind the net and the guy behind him literally grabs him around his neck while he has the puck and there was nothing, you are right the refs were pretty bad for both sides but it just seemed like whenever Anaheim got skating towards the Nashville zone they were allowed to do just about anything.

Yeah it was amazing. He's such a good player. I honestly can't wait to watch our two teams play again.

Carlyle's an idiot.

What the hell is the point of playing Nieds 36 mins in a game in January when we have a zillion-point playoff cushion and help is not that far away?

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion there, I didn't see much from the refs that cost either team the game. I'll stand by my opinion that the officiating was sub par for both teams.

There where a lot of missed calls, and I do believe the refs where sub par for both teams (who was reffing? was it Mick Mago?). The missed calls permitted by the Preds where more obvious in my opinion, but there where times the Ducks got a break. It was a blaring mistake not calling the Perry incedent formentioned. The Ducks got a break on a Robby Nieds hook in the offensive zone, that was ticky-tacky, but is something they usually called. These examples clearly show poor officiating both sides, but the Ducks ended up getting screwed. Can't wait to play the Preds again.

*Sidenote* I like the mustard yellow jerseys. If I where a new fan to the NHL and had no geographical alligence to any team I would have to back the Preds souly because of those jerseys. Luckely that is not the case.

A little strong, but good point. Hopefully he pulls back on Scotty's ice time in the less meaningful All-Star Game.

Ducks deserved that win, dominated from the 2nd on. Too bad.

Too bad playing half the game doesn't get you a win, eh? At least you guys always get a point for it...

("Put on a Happy Face Lyrics").

Put On A Happy Face
Gray skies are gonna clear up,
Put on a happy face;
Brush off the clouds and cheer up,
Put on a happy face.
Take off the gloomy mask of tragedy,
It's not your style;
You'll look so good that you'll be glad
Ya' decide to smile!
Pick out a pleasant outlook,
Stick out that noble chin;
Wipe off that "full of doubt" look,
Slap on a happy grin!
And spread sunshine all over the place,
Just put on a happy face!
Put on a happy face
Put on a happy face
And if you're feeling cross and bitterish
Don't sit and whine
Think of banana split and licorice
And you'll feel fine
I knew a girl so glooming
She'd never laugh or sing
She wouldn't listen to me
Now she's a mean old thing
So spread sunshine all over the place
Just put on a happy face
So, put on a happy face

Tootoo punches people when they are down on the ice, he jumps people to get an upper hand and generally doesn't have any respect.

But he is a good fighter though.

Im no math major, but dominating the game after the 1st period is a good bit more than half the game. But Im talking to the guy that says the Preds dominated the whole game so I am probably wasting my time.

I just got home and the weirdest thing happened while I was gone. Someone puked on my TV. No wait, sorry. That's just the ugliest uniforms on the planet. Nevermind.

You should have some sympothy for ugly uniforms, being a Ducks fan and all. Unless you're one of the thousand bandwagon fans that jumped on this season. Otherwise its like being a fat guy, loosing 300lbs, then making fun of other fat people.

I agree he is good fighter, but you have to have respect...
at least the code says that way :)

Been a fan since the beginning. To continue with your analogy, now that I've lost that "300 lbs", I have every right to call you "fatasses", moreso than anyone who has never lived through being so "fat". ;)

Actually, you failed to read yet again. I mentioned I watched parts of the game. All of the 1st, most of the 2nd, and parts of the 3rd. Then again, your opinion is above all... but way to read too much into my point. The Sharks would be just as high as the other teams if they lost some games in OT too.

But they didn't so they aren't. Maybe the Sharks need to work harder to get to overtime.

I believe you said you watched 'most' of the game. The Preds were dominated in 'most' of said game. Maybe you should scrap 'most' of your post and agree that you are 'mostly' wrong. And read too much into your point? I believe your point was that the Predators dominated the game. I think I addressed that quite neatly.

We get a point on the road against a Stanley Cup semi-contender, while 2/3 of our top 3 defensemen and our starting goalie are out with injuries. I'll take that any day.
