chaosrevolver 01-08-2007, 05:13 PM On the NHL Trade board there is a trade rumour that involves the Bruins and Ducks. This is what the deal would look like.
To ANA:
G - Hannu Toivonen
Pick or Prospect
To Bos:
G - Ilya Bryzgalov
Pick or Prospect
Lyons71 01-08-2007, 08:16 PM why?
McDonald19 01-08-2007, 08:21 PM how does this help the Ducks?
unless the unnamed prospect is Kessel.
how does this help the Ducks?
Makes a lot of sense, Toivonen is four years younger than Bryzgalov. The swap would let Burke cement Giguere into the starter's role for the next few years and move the pipe line back a little for a future guy.
I'd expect the pick/prospect coming the Ducks way to be better than what's going the Boston direction since I think Bryzgalov is (right now) a better goalie.
snarktacular 01-08-2007, 09:34 PM I could see this happening... if Giguere weren't hurt and Bryzgalov weren't the only NHL quality starter we had (Caron is an NHL quality backup in my mind). Especially based on Toivonen's poor season this year, absolutely Boston's pick/prospect would have to be better than ours to be equal value. Although that doesn't always stop Burke if he likes the player he's getting.
Rickety Cricket 01-08-2007, 09:42 PM I really see no reason for the ducks to do this unless they get one hell of a prospect. The only other thing I can think of is that Toivonien(however the hell you spell it) makes less than Bryzgalov and may be a prep for a bigger trade, but I think the difference is somethink like 500K

Ducks aren't rebuilding they need to win now! If Giguere gets hurt in the playoffs who do you want in net, Toivonen or Bryzgalov?

I concur! Plus, it's not like the Ducks will lose Bryz at the end of the season, but there is a chance the organization could lose Jiggy. That's a huge gamble for the organization since Burke doesn't talk about contract stuff until after the season's over. Not a good move short and long term for the Ducks.

i say let giguere go, cuz bryzgalov is more entertaining:) . My gf got me sharks/ducks preseason tix in fresno and we sat literally right next to bryzgalov, i'd blame him for everygoal that leighton gave up and he'd just look at me. We'd also bang on the glass and wave and he'd smile and wave back. We offered him gum and he said no, then in the 3rd my gf got ice cream, we offered it to him but he laughed and said no.
But in all seriousness, I have feeling that florida is gonna throw a lot of $$$ at giguere, and bryzgalov is an excellent goalie and is cheaper, he'd make it easier to keep pronger and neidermeyer(although i hope you dont:sarcasm: )

If Giguere gets hurt we're looking at next season either way, IMO. I have less confidence that Bryzgalov can make the key big save all the time. He needs more games like Detroit and fewer like Columbus.
I donīt think It would happen. Caron is just a replacement. At least Bryz is in NHL history for a very long SO streak and he has proved that he can do very well in playoffs.
Snap Wilson 01-09-2007, 09:48 AM I can't stipulate how it looks from Boston's end, but I can see it happening from our side. I don't think Burke likes Bryz.

Even with Giguere between the pipes, if the rest of the team plays like they did against Columbus, we don't have a prayer in the playoffs.

Are you really taking that much out of 10 minutes of one game of 44?
Seriously, everyone is treating that like it was a huge signifier of things to come even though we were playing without Jiggy, Pronger, Beauchemin, and Marchant. Those are all key missing pieces that we hope will be around come playoff time. That Columbus game is going to be like the Philly game...it won't mean anything in the long run other than 2 missed points. It's a bad moment among many great moments that is magnified by successive losses and several injuries.

Right now it's five games out of the last five. None of them have been of a performance worthy of the term "playoff-caliber."

I was specifically talking about this point: "if the rest of the team plays like they did against Columbus". The rest of the team played decent to good for the first 50 minutes. Other than that 10 minutes, that was one of the better games among the past few games. That game means less to me than the others where the Ducks sucked for 60 whole minutes. It very much compares to that Philly game where the Ducks basically stunk for the first 10 minutes and played an okay game afterward. It doesn't mean much anymore.

I disagree. With Pronger, Niedermayer, Pahlsson, Marchant etc. playing shutdown defense as long as Bryzgalov plays pretty well the Ducks could potentially still win a cup. A lot of things would still have to go right, but Bryz wouldn't necessarily have to steal any games for the Ducks...just play up to his ability.
Where's the Mighty 01-18-2007, 06:28 PM Anything new on this? Im now kinda hoping this happens...

No, just the same bad feeling that counting on Bryzgalov come playoffs is a recipe for early tee times.

I honestly think you should stop talking until next season.
Reaper45 01-18-2007, 08:23 PM It's an Eklund rumor, it's not happening.
