Kingswin 01-08-2007, 05:33 AM I was curious what a team like Anaheim would be willing to trade for Ryan Getslaf for (can't use the write letter in his name because that button is broken)??? Getslaf for Kopitar... Not that I would ever want to see it but I think that is fair.. Let me have it

Definantly wouldnt trade kopitar for Getzlaf. Kopitar is only 40 games into his career and id like to see him in LA.
Second...anaheim and LA trading their young superstars? no no no
No point. Getzlaf fits this team nicely right now, plays well with the players on it. I'd listen if you started, with Kopitar for Ryan. Ryan would be a better target as we don't need him right now, and Kopitar can platy right now..
Snap Wilson 01-08-2007, 09:25 AM I love Kopitar, but both players are probably a better fit where they currently are.

the ducks wont give you a future captain to build your team around.
Where's the Mighty 01-08-2007, 12:14 PM Getzlaf is better defensively and its not even close IMO, and he's just as good offensively so i guess that trade really wouldnt help us would it? We'll give ya Bobby Ryan though :amazed:
190Octane 01-08-2007, 12:27 PM I think I might be unpopular with this opinion but I think Kopitar when all is said and done will be better offensively than Getzlaf.

Agreed... and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Kopitar plays the PK as well.
I'd take Kopitar over Getzlaf any day of the week. He has still to reach his full potential and size. Getzlaf is much closer to his peak than Kopitar is and Kopitar already has more points.
Davey Duck 01-08-2007, 01:05 PM Agreed... and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Kopitar plays the PK as well.

Kopitar is 29% ahead in points, with 7 minutes more (55% more) icetime per game. Getzlaf is 55% ahead in goals. Getzlaf hasn't reached his full potential either because he doesn't get the icetime yet.

So does Getzlaf.
Two very different players.
Muledog 01-08-2007, 02:10 PM As a King's fan, I don't make this deal. Getzlaf is a fine player and an incredible talent, but Kopitar is the play making center the King's should build around. I would love to see Getzlaf on the King's but only as a compliment to Anze not a replacement.
Plus there's about a 0% chance that the Ducks and Kings would ever deal with each other....:)

I don't disagree with this but I think Getzlaf is a full two years older than Kopitar and Kopitar is still doing damn well.
Professor John Frink 01-08-2007, 02:16 PM Kings fans love Kopitar, Duck fans love Getzlaf.
Can I close this thread down now? We all know where it will eventually head.

You should close it imo.
I personally think Getzlaf is a stud and will be a star in this league, but Kopitar is a freak talent. 6'4 220 lbs..good skater...magical hands..grade A attitude and 19 years old. That's something that GMs would trade their children for.
snarktacular 01-08-2007, 02:47 PM I kind of think Kopitar will be better than Getzlaf, but they wouldn't be traded because there's little incentive for a trade. Both fit better where they are now. Getzlaf I'd say is the better player now, which is what the Ducks need, and Kopiter MIGHT be the better player tomorrow, which is what the Kings need. Value wise it's probably about right. But whoever is offering the trade would need to offer more because the receiving team would need incentive. Definately better than Sundin for Niedermayer.

You also say that you wouldnt trade Kopitar for Crosby but you are willing to trade him for Getzlaf?

Anaheim is also 60% stronger than LA this season, which may change some perspective.

Yes, I agree. I was just trying to put the comparison into perspective. Both of these guys have huge potential and it's not like Kopitar is a vastly superior player right now. Plus, I give more a lot more weight to goals than assists, so I'd take Getzlaf right now for that reason alone.
TheJoeMan 01-08-2007, 03:47 PM The arguement of whom will be a better player is relevent but the arguement if these teams would ever make that trade is moot. The Ducks and Kings, in the 13 years they've co-existed, have never, not one time, made a trade. It doesn't make sense to trade players to your rival, ever.

Specially players of this caliber
Matt13 01-08-2007, 05:24 PM The loss of Dan Bylsma to the Ducks is wound that just wont heal with Kings fans as I am sure it is with Bob Corkum to the Kings.
Lundqvist=Vezina 01-08-2007, 05:36 PM They are both good players, Getzlaf has an amazing shot and Kopitar is great at setting people up, but I don't really see Anaheim and LA trading espically because they are both two young centers that aren't near fully developed. I think they will each just wait it out with the players they have.

Getzlaf playmaking abilities haven't even been utilized this year he's nowhere close to his peak and he's going to score around 30 goals and doing so in pretty limited ice time I might add.
Davey Duck 01-08-2007, 06:49 PM 17 goals in 44 games = 32 goals over the full season
ATOI is 13:12. Extrapolate to just 17 minutes a game and you get 41 goals. 20 minutes a game and you get 48. Of course he's likely to lose some production with increased ice time and better defenses on him, but these go you to show what sort of goal scoring pace he's on right now after just 101 career NHL games.

and he has more goals than assists, last year it was the opposite, once his line gets a consistant offensive threat added I expect that area of his game to shoot up a bit, I could see him being a 40 goal scorer in his prime and he's definitely capable of 40-50 assists..
Hockey Duckie 01-08-2007, 10:40 PM I think Kopitar is a special player and Getzlaf is also a special player. They both bring different skills, but Kopitar is carrying the team (at least when I watched the Kings earlier in the year) whereas Getzlaf, right now, is a compliment and auxilary to the Teemu-Mac-Kunitz line. Although, when someone mentions Getzlaf I automatically think of Perry at the same time. These two have awesome chemistry and playmaking ability with each other.
Plenty of posters have mentioned that each player fits their respective team's and i'd have to agree with that notion.

Very true.

That's the difference between a 1st place team and a 13th place team. No disrespect intended to the Kings, just stating the obvious.
adevandry 01-09-2007, 04:16 AM Kopitar is already as good if not better than Getzlaf. Kopitar is the MVP in LA right now. I highly doubt Getzlaf would be able to carry this team like Kopitar has.

How can one carry a team thats been largely mediocre this season? Give Getzlaf 20 minutes a game, let him kill penalties, play on the first line and first PP, live with the growing pains and I bet you see a somewhat similar accelerated development.
Matt13 01-09-2007, 12:48 PM I was more sad when Grimson went to LA than Corkum...
Are you kidding?
Corkum was an icon.
Lyons71 01-09-2007, 11:05 PM for me, not so much. I'm more of a Semenov, Sacco, guy.
