I like the move. Jackman is definitely an offensive defensemen and we need one. Plus, he provides another veteran presence.

he is an offensive defenseman who can at times be suspect on defense. i have always felt that he could become a fairly decent player but he wasnt given much of a chance in FL. i wish him the best and hope he turns out to be a great filler for you guys and perhaps turn into a serviceable player during your run for the cup.

he's in Andy Delmore territory.

Big right hand shot, he can help on the powerplay with his shot. But he isn't very good in his own end.

His biggest critism has been a lack of work ethic and wanted things handed to him in the past. But he does have a lot of skill.

LOL, I'm dumb. I was looking at his stats on Yahoo and didn't notice his last two seasons were played on 2 different teams. I thought he had a bad year last year, but I was only looking at his 15 Florida games. Why has he only played 7 games this year? Injuries?

Before that, his offense is almost nonexistant due to not playing much at all.

In a way, this doesn't worry me. It actually seems like a solid pickup for a 4-6 defenseman. If we traded a 3rd or a 4th rounder, I can't really see a whole lot of problems with this. Burke likely didn't trade a 1st or 2nd for him since we are almost tapped out of those. I think this may be a good trade with or without the Pronger injury, an upgrade over the 57 rookies we have in line waiting to play D right now.

I like this deal. Jackman has some offensive potential when you look at the years he had in Pittsburgh so this solves any questions we had on our defensive depth and for now stops the bleeding. Maybe all he needs is someone like Burke and Carlyle on his *** night in night out.

Well, but if I had to guess the condition probably has to do with how much Jackman plays for us. So if he doesn't play much we don't give them anything.

Not sure if this means anything, but I was down at The Athenaeum in downtown Detroit (the hotel where most of the teams who play the Wings stay at) and saw Pronger before the game going over to the restaurant to get some food. He was in a walking cast, but if he made the road trip I don't think he'll be out for that long.

I might be wrong, but a "conditional" draft pick doesn't mean that you don't give one up unless conditions are met. It means that the round the pick is in is dependant on whether or not certain conditions are met. So this could be something like a 6th rounder or a 2nd rounder depending on how Jackman plays.

Well Bryz came back two games after picking up Caron, so I'm not so worried that is the case.

Do you know what a conditional pick is?...might as well call it future considerations. Unless you know something we don't know about the conditions this probably will turn out to be simply the Ducks taking Jackman off The Panthers hands free of charge.

I have feeling that jackman will turn into very good adition, carlyle will be all night long on his *** and i think he will be doing allright.
And if he was traded to best team in NHL I think he will realize what chance he has now and will work harder on himself as ever

My guess is that he's replacing Beauchemin for now. Huskins is there to replace Pronger. I have good feelings about Jackman, if he can have someone defensively responsible with him, and maybe learn from all the vets we have, he could turn out into a good player for this team. I could even see him bump DiPenta out when everyone's healthy.

Injury replacement. Beauchemin's out at least a month. Possibly longer than Pronger. Beauchemin's doing fine. He eats up tons of minutes. His offensive stats have taken a slight hit with Pronger stealing his PP time. Other than a few mistakes here and there, he's a solid d-man, especially for a 2nd year player.

wow 6th rd pick. its funny how a bunch of other teams have been looking for a bottom pairing defenseman complaining they cant get one because of the salary cap. and as soon as burke goes looking, bam. done deal.

i have a feeling (just a feeling) that jackman is really going to do well here, and will turn out to be a solid addition of beauchemin-like proportions. i could see him pushing down odonnell when everyone is healthy.

The Ducks will jump that bridge when they come to it. Beauchemin is expected to be out a while, so any number of things can happen in the meantime. It might force another trade, or more likely, the team will play with seven defensemen, rotating Dipenta and Jackman. Unless O'Brien plays himself out of the lineup (highly unlikely considering his play to date), I don't think any other defenseman is ticketed to join Moran in Portland.

Once Pronger is back in the lineup, this gives the Ducks roster 5 Top 10 draft picks and 9 1st rounders overall.

Only 2 of those 9 were on our NHL roster before Burke got here (Rob Nieds and Jiggy).

I really like this one.jackman has a big offensive upside and this is really important now as Scottie cannot do everything on his own.I would like to see jackman paired with Scottie,this has also helped Beauchemin.When pronger and Beauchemin come back, we have another solid number 6 defender,who causes a battle for the spots.

All Jackman has to do is be better than Aaron Rome (at this stage in his career) to make the deal worthwhile. A 6th-round pick is virtually nothing. Jackman may not have come close to living up to his potential---at least not yet---but he does have valuable NHL experience. Huskins and Rome were/are NHL neophytes. O'Brien is a rookie and DiPenta has one season-plus under his belt. That would be four d-man with little or no experience. Jackman is a very low-risk alternative.

I always liked him when he played with Pittsburgh, seems like a pretty decent risk to take :dunno:

I just came back from vacation only to hear the closing minute of the game. When they said Jackman, I was hoping it was Barret. Boy was I disappointed to find out it was Ric. I believe in 1996, the Ducks were hoping to draft Ric. They had to settle for Ruslan Salei. 10 years later and we have come a full circle.
