Interesting Facts
- Tonight is "Steve Yzerman Night" in Detroit. After tonight, no one will ever wear #19 for the Red Wings ever again.
- Teemu Selanne is on a great goal-scoring streak. He has scored four goals in the last two games, which were against the Carolina Hurricanes and the Minnesota Wild.
- Chris Chelios is the oldest player in the NHL at 44 years of age.
Things to Look Out For
- The fact that the Detroit Red Wings fans are so loud will not go unnoticed. Since the Red Wings are honouring Steve Yzerman, the fans should go even crazier.
- There should be great goaltending from Dominik Hasek, a six-time Vezina Trophy winner.
- There should be dynamic defence from Chris Pronger (if he's playing), Scott Niedermayer and Nicklas Lidstrom, the latest three blueliners to win the Norris Trophy.
It should be a good one!
Enjoy the game!
:handclap:
Go Ducks Go!

Anyway, should be a good game, will be a great ceremony celebrating one of the greatest players ever to play the game.
It's unfortunate that Anaheim is so banged up for a night like this.
Jerky Leclerc 01-01-2007, 08:52 PM Lets start over again.
Its Rod Brindamour night...err I mean Steve Yzerman night.
FissionFire 01-01-2007, 08:55 PM Thanks for cleaning it up JL.
I'm hoping for an exciting game between two of the NHL's top 4 teams on a night that every Detroit fan will never forget. Yzerman is arguably the best player this team has ever had nd is an icon not only in Detroit, but also Canada (CBC is playing the pregame and game action now). Here's to a hard-fought, exciting, back-and-forth game filled with big hits, great saves, and edge-of-your-seat drama (and no injuries!).
And Wings win 4-1. It IS Steve Yzerman night, can't ruin it now! :D
lux_interior 01-01-2007, 09:22 PM Go Portland Pirates!! er...I mean Anaheim Ducks.
Spankatola Jamnuts 01-01-2007, 10:04 PM Hate the Wings, but I have to say, banged up as we are, Detroit takes this one.
lux_interior 01-01-2007, 10:12 PM I just hope we hold them to single digits.
Varius 01-02-2007, 12:58 AM I have the feeling DET might be pushing 40+ shots at wall tonight...however I'll try to go against the flow and against all odds and say 5-3 Ducks!!! :D
McDonald19 01-02-2007, 01:45 AM Caron should get the start.
Caron should get the start.
That should be interesting...
BowDown2Chistov 01-02-2007, 04:12 AM Anyone want to guess on who goes down tonight? temmu- knee injury or mac gets a concussion? No No Getzlaf broken finger….
Pepper 01-02-2007, 04:55 AM Well, I'm gonna go against the popular opinion and say that Ducks will take this one.
bleuer 01-02-2007, 05:04 AM Every time I pick the other team to win, the Ducks win....so 7-2 Wings

One for allusions to Detroit being weak at +/- 9

I said it on another thread, if Bryz is even dressed tonight than Burke should be drug tested. I love Bryz, and I will flip out if his injury is prolonged because Burke brings him back early again.
Jerky Leclerc 01-02-2007, 07:34 PM Wall has been sent back to Portland so it means Bryz is going to dress tonight.

Why should Burke be drug tested if Bryz is dressed? Don't you think that they know more about his injury than us on the board?

Carlyle is under strict orders from Burke to kill the last Russian on the Ducks roster. The fact that Bryz was a 2nd round pick makes it even more necessary.

Did you see the adjusted betting lines? Haha.
Last time we physically pounded Detroit into submission, I hope to see more of the same with Moen, O'Brien, Thornton, O'Donnell and Rome in the lineup tonight.

FissionFire 01-02-2007, 09:37 PM Holmstrom isn't a cherry-picker. He's just so damn slow that by the time the Wings get the puck and go back up ice he's just making it back to center.

FissionFire 01-02-2007, 09:47 PM Great night, great teams, great atmosphere....
and the refs are sucking it up for both sides tonight. This was a great game until the whistles started with the marginal crap again.
Snap Wilson 01-02-2007, 10:03 PM We're lucky we're only down by a goal. If we lose, it isn't because we're missing Giguere, Pronger and Beauchemin. It's because we're missing our ****ing work ethic. Absolutely pathetic.
(Okay, Bryz isn't helping. He looks like ****. I hope it's just rust.)
Dirk316 01-02-2007, 10:05 PM I hate the way we are playing. UGHHHHHH They should be running the crap out of these heartless wusses. I wouldnt mind a couple roughing penalties to send a message. Shannon is useless its official Parros should be playing :madfire: :madfire: :madfire:
briguy35 01-02-2007, 10:05 PM I'm not sure if rust, but he is not looking to good
FissionFire 01-02-2007, 10:06 PM Eh, in the 1st period you guys dominated us. Overall it's been an even game. That last goal was just a series of great plays. Samuelsson with a great forecheck, Holmstrom with a great pass, and Zetterberg with a great shot. Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat. Overall, I'd say until the last 5-10 minutes of the 2nd, this game has been dominated by you guys. Selanne has had 3 great scoring chances alone.
Jerky Leclerc 01-02-2007, 10:07 PM I heard Ryan Shannon is starring in a new movie. Its called the Invisible Man.
Dirk316 01-02-2007, 10:07 PM I hate to say it but i miss Vish's huge hits no one on the D throws huge hits anymore
Ducksforcup 01-02-2007, 10:08 PM Ducks outplayed and outworked that period after a good first period.

If the Ducks start playing the way they should, running the Wings left and right instead of matching skill the results would be like last time.
Dirk316 01-02-2007, 10:09 PM I heard Ryan Shannon is starring in a new movie. Its called the Invisible Man.

I'm guessing that the 3rd will be a walk in the park for the Wings. As long as they stand up the Ducks at the blueline and protect against the speed of Andy Mac and Teemu (BTW, why the **** is Shannon playing with them?) I can't see the Ducks coming back in this one.
Dirk316 01-02-2007, 10:11 PM Maltby being interviewed the perfect example of a player hiding behind the instigator.

There is no reason for Parros to be playing against the Wings. You're right, they are "heartless wusses" (I prefer the term 'soft'): Detroit doesn't have a heavy-weight. If Parros were playing he'd just bring down Getzlaf and Perry and end up taking a minor penalty.
I do agree that Shannon should take a seat though. Much rather have 'Z' up here.
Snap Wilson 01-02-2007, 10:23 PM It's not like Parros goes out of his way to throw checks or agitate, anyway.
Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond are two of the best, but their passive-aggressive reaction to the marginal calls against the Wings was absolutely hilarious.
[paraphrased]
"Colin Campbell's in the building, do you want to go talk to him?"
"Oh, Colin's a good man, he knows these are bad calls. He'll never admit it, of course..."
Snap Wilson 01-02-2007, 10:25 PM Yes, Ken, Mick, that was holding. Second dumbass penalty by Teemu today.
Davey Duck 01-02-2007, 10:25 PM Is Selanne pissed off about something lately? I've never seen him take so many dumb penalties.

yeah, a few more penalties would turn this whole game around.
FissionFire 01-02-2007, 10:25 PM They're usually pretty fair, but sometimes go a bit overboard....
I'm listening to the CBC broadcast. Those Canadians know how to boradcast hockey!
Snap Wilson 01-02-2007, 10:35 PM They're usually pretty fair, but sometimes go a bit overboard....
I can't think of a team I'd rather listen to, though. Knowledgeable and restrained are my two favorite qualities (exceptions made for entertaining guys like Rick Jeannerette or Pat Foley). Even when they "go overboard," they're at least relatively quiet about it.
Snap Wilson 01-02-2007, 10:55 PM Some urgency here would be nice. The team has lost two straight, and they're in a very winnable game. Detroit hasn't had to work at all.
Snap Wilson 01-02-2007, 10:56 PM Just f'ing terrible. Embarrasing effort.
190Octane 01-02-2007, 10:57 PM It's strange... earlier in the season you wondered how they'd lose, you knew someone would score. Now you know no one is going to score and you wonder how they'll win.
Strange how that can change in a season.

Exactly, I know it's only three losses in a row, but right now I just can't picture this team winning in my head. Granted, were having a terrible time with injuries, but there is absolutely no excuse for this ****ing terrible effort.
BraveSirRobin 01-02-2007, 10:59 PM I thought not posting during the game would help, but it looks like I was wrong. They just couldn't score. I really hope this skid ends soon.
Claudio_Sanchez 01-02-2007, 11:04 PM that was the most boring ducks game I've seen all year. an inconsistent effort against a vacuum. we tried to hit them, they did nothing. we tried to open it up, they closed off the the neutral zone and collapsed on the puck.
Snap Wilson 01-02-2007, 11:04 PM See my post below:
You pretty much called it, except Teemu and Andy Mac didn't try to generate any speed. The Ducks spent most of the third hoping there would be an opening in the defense. Even Scotty was lax in this one.
Three game losing streak! Do I hear four?
Dirk316 01-02-2007, 11:04 PM yeah, a few more penalties would turn this whole game around.

Snap Wilson 01-02-2007, 11:07 PM we tried to hit them, they did nothing. we tried to open it up, they closed off the the neutral zone and collapsed on the puck.
There wasn't much effort to do either, honestly. The forecheck is MIA.

I think given the way the ref was calling the game, roughing up the Wings would have put the game farther out of reach for the Ducks earlier in the game.
That game was painful to watch. You know this is team is not going to win when Teemu is taking dumb penalties. I don't get to watch many Ducks game since TVU stopped showing them, but I really hope that's not the way they usually play.
It was painful to see this team play with such a lack of effort, they were barely skating, not finishing their checks, and making dumb plays. Detroit only needed to shut our "skating speed" and this team was worthless. We really need Pronger and Beauchemin back, pronto.
Jerky Leclerc 01-02-2007, 11:10 PM I'm depressed. :(

We needed some hustle out there, even Scott Nieds was crap tonite constantly turning the puck over, oh and Thornton is looking more like an AHLer each game.
Pepper 01-03-2007, 12:30 AM We need to bring up Konopka and get some energy.
Pahlsson's line hasn't done much lately has it? Shannon is still doing his 'usual' stuff, skate like hell in to the opponent's zone and do absolutely nothing.

Shannon and Travis Green are pretty much useless. I agree Z needs to be recalled already he would have taken some runs guaranteed
What we need is Pronger, Beauch, and Giguere back. We need McDonald to use something else than his speed, teach how not to take stupid penalties, find out why Shannon is still on the team and put some effort on the ice. That game was just terrible...
Spankatola Jamnuts 01-03-2007, 01:06 AM I didn't think anything could bore me more than that endless ceremony, but the game topped it. Pretty great.

I thought Perry had that shot he zinged off the wide post though....could have brought us to earn a fully undeserved point or two tonight

2 injuries on Defence and all of a sudden your depleted? Haha OMG Detroit has been depeleted this year!!!!! Grand Rapids Griffins in the NHL!!!!! :biglaugh: :sarcasm:

Edit: Actually, tool is much better than troll. Anyone who publically gloats a one goal win against a team missing 2 of its 3 best players, as well as a team in which it is trailing in the standings, as well as a team that pretty much mauled said gloaters team with the whole team intact is the definition of a tool. There isnt a better word in the dictionary for this kind of situation.

Psst...it's a red wings fan. You're shocked at this?

Not that Zetterberg4Captain wasn't out of line with his comments, but the Wings were missing Datsyuk, Chelios, and Kopecky.
Spankatola Jamnuts 01-03-2007, 01:47 AM Wow. That's the same.
Varius 01-03-2007, 01:57 AM I look forward to playing the Red Wings in the playoffs this year...they just aren't built for the post-season this year while we (injury-free) definately are :yo:
Heaton 01-03-2007, 01:59 AM Not like it matters coming from another Wings fan, but just ignore the morons who said anything out of line.
#1 Losing Datsyuk, Kopecky and Chelios isn't even on the same wave length as losing who you guys have lost so far .
#2 There's no reason to talk **** on a night like tonight. It was a good close game, the Wings pulled it out, leave it at that. As far as I'm concerned, the Ducks are still the team to beat.

I meant in the game we played earlier in the season...you just misinterpret.
ktulu98 01-03-2007, 03:36 AM for me the problem was we were not shooting and if we are not shooting we cant score.
again they would rather pass 5x then shot 1 on the net.All those plays :banghead:
I hope coaching stuff saw that...
ktulu98 01-03-2007, 03:39 AM I don't know if this is it, but I think Dirk might appreciate it. The Ducks fight slideshow...

yep, we got pwned by the redwings fans. /salute you all wings fanboys and thanks from asskicking and pure pwnage. hope we dont meet detroit redwings fanboys™ this year again :help: :help: - their fanclub is just too much for the ducks  :help:

stalbert1 01-03-2007, 07:48 AM What we need is Pronger, Beauch, and Giguere back. We need McDonald to use something else than his speed, teach how not to take stupid penalties, find out why Shannon is still on the team and put some effort on the ice. That game was just terrible...
At least Shannon can skate and complete a pass. Tough guy Thornton wasn't tough and was useless last night.
Somebody should remind him what his job is.......
Pwnasaurus 01-03-2007, 10:41 AM Shannon is so easily knocked off the puck it is Chistov-esque in nature.
Heavy Hussar 01-03-2007, 10:57 AM As far as I'm concerned, the Ducks are still the team to beat.
stevie thinks so too. im was very surprised to hear him thank the ducks. my friends and i were watching that and everyone turned to each other and just said wow. geez its your night dude!
Dirk316 01-03-2007, 01:34 PM We beat you guys.
your Euro laden boring sissy team is going nowhere this year. Enjoy watching a boring fight free ice dancing exhibition.
1st round playoff exit again? You like watching watching wussy cowards skate in skirts?
Davey Duck 01-03-2007, 02:09 PM I will take it :)
Cool. Those are 4 awesome pictures of 4 of our guys kicking ***. Scott Parker in the George Parros one is hilarious. It's like he's calling to the heavens for help.

And who do you have that can fight? Oh wait you have Parros! It must be fun watching a guy, who can not skate one bit, fight once every five games and lose!!!!! How exciting!! Oh and we beat you guys last night just to tell you.:yo:

What the hell are you doing? Stop embarrassing Red Wings fans with your childish comments.
Anaheim has plenty who fight, O'Donnell, O'Brien, Moen, Thornton, Penner, Perry, Parros ect...
Stop it.

Perry shouldn't fight, Penner never fights and Thornton thinks he's a player now, he brought zero to the table last night. He and Parros are supposed to add spark by playing physical - Thornton was a figure skater last night - and a poor one at that.

Have you ever made a post that wasn't directly or indirectly related to how Ryan Shannon is awesome? I'm not taking a shot at you... its an honest question.

No, I'm president, vice president and chairman of his fan club.:biglaugh:
BTW, Thornton sucking the last few games isn't related to how Shannon plays its a reflection of how Thornton hasn't brought any physical element to the lineup all of a sudden.
For Shannon to stay in the NHL he will soon have to produce some points, Thornton will have to bash and fight otherwise he too is a useless part of the team and destined for Portland.
Lyons71 01-03-2007, 09:24 PM I wish tivo would've warned me about the ceremony thing. I missed the whole 3rd period!
Had chances, but Hasek was good.
And more stupid penalties!!! YAY!!
I didn't watch the game as much as I could've mostly because once it finally started (an hour+ in) I knew I'd miss the end, so what was the point?

The third period was nothing special believe you me.

I just was listing them off of hockeyfights.com stats :p
FissionFire 01-03-2007, 09:43 PM Wings don't have fighters. Markov? Franzen? Damn, I think Cleary might be our best. We had big Brad Norton, but the fact that he can't skate, shoot, pass, or defend doomed him. I don't care if you can beat a guys head like a punching bag, you still need to be able to play.
Personally, I prefer a physical game over a fight. Fights are boring since it usually involves two big guys wrestling around with MAYBE 1 solid punch connecting. Not since the Probert days has there been someone who really strikes fear into other fighters, and Probert was so hopped up on blow I doubt he could even feel his face getting pummeled while he beat some guy into a pulp.
lux_interior 01-03-2007, 09:53 PM Whatever. I don't put much energy into worrying about these games because of all the injuries.
Lucky me, I finally get to go to a game and it will be Friday with Pronger, Beauchemin, Jigger and Marchant out. Well, that last one I don't care about.
BTW, Thornton sucking the last few games isn't related to how Shannon plays its a reflection of how Thornton hasn't brought any physical element to the lineup all of a sudden.
Sure it is in the context of all your other posts. We get it, Thornton sucks and Shannon is awesome. You've told us many times over.
That's why I asked the question. If you posted on any other topic it would be a little easier to believe you had a balanced, rational opinion instead of just being a Shannon fanboy.

Read closely scientist, I said in the past few games Thornton has sucked and is not playing his style which makes him useless to the team.
That has nothing to do with Shannon's play which has also been mediocre.
Understand now or do I type too fast for your teeny brain....:shakehead
Ducksforcup 01-03-2007, 10:58 PM  DFC...being....NEGATIVE? Say it ain't so!
Well, you could say I was making Lyon feel more positive by telling him that he didn't miss much... :)
Dirk316 01-04-2007, 12:23 AM Fact is Thornton has fought and was probably the only Duck who took runs last night, did you watch the game Stalbert? If you are related to Shannon i could understand why you defend him so much.

Roger that loud and clear, fanboy.
Shannon's last goal was on October 25th, seems to me like he's the one that's proven he needs more time in the AHL.
