Playoff line-up

Well, the thread about Lou that mentioned calling up Marshall got me thinking, since I like Marshall a lot as a role player.

If we call up Marshall for the playoffs, what do you think our lines will look like?

Elias-Gomez-Gionta
Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner
Pandolfo-Madden-Brylin
Rupp-Dowd-Marshall

Obviously it wouldn't affect the top 2 lines, but if he was called up, I wondered if he'd take the RW position on the Maddolfo line. However, I think Brylin has fit that role exceptionally well and he also adds a bit of a scoring threat to a pair known for creating chances they can't finish (I love Pando, but he really has stonehands, and to be honest, I don't even get out of my seat for a Madden breakaway anymore). I also think Sarge better fits the third line role of being more positional checkers, whereas when Marshall was on the third line he was more of a bump-and-grinder stuck with two very positional guys.

For the 4th line, I think Marshall would add exactly what we need.... toughness with the ability to chip a couple in. In fact, all three on the fourth line would do that. Rupp, believe it or not, has been playing exceptionally well with the puck (he hasn't finished, but I actually get excited when I see him and Dowd cycling and creating chances). Dowd has been rock solid. To be honest, I'd be very excited to see this 4th line at work. They can hit, are defensively responsible, and have the ability to chip a few in. Both Rupp and Marshall aren't afraid to engage in fisticuffs either. Rass and Janssen would be left out, but this 4th line just seems so much more appealing to me.

Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself here... long season to go.

Interesting for the 4th line. I would like to see Marshall back as well. But, I think we should see how Janssen turns out. Personally I think it's a matter of time before he scores his first goal like Oduya. He's had a few chances.

Janssen gets a shot on goal about once a year. I must have been out of the room when Cam was peppering the net. LOL Good for the regular season but Marshall would be nice to have back for the playoffs. I don't know how Lou is going to get Matvichuk back under the cap, much less Marshall. I am sure one of you wise arses will know.

Marshall can play on any line if we need to protect a couple of our smaller players for a period or more. No reason he can't play with Patty and Gomer if they are getting pushed around. But I am sure someone will tell me.

I like Marshall, but hes too inconistant, theres games when he looks like he could play on the top line, with amazing passes and set ups, and theres games where hes lost out there. And thats why hes down in Lowel. He's a proven playoff clutch preformer, but I'd rather have Cam banging around bodies with his five minutes of ice time, or Rassmussen playing along with Rupp and Dowd then see Marsh come back, I do have a soft spot for the clincher against Tampa in 03 though.

Im telling you Marshall is a guy you want there for the playoff he can chip em in just as well as sarge madden and pando and is not a defensive liability.

I would mix em to balence the lines out

Gionta-Gomez-Parise
Elias-Zajac-Langs
Pandolfo-Madden-Marshall
Brylin-Dowd-Rupp/Rass

thats a solid 4 line and wouldnt see the average "new nhl" time of 4 minutes a game, from what Lou told me and I believe marshall will def be back witht the big boys.

But Chico like you said he is pretty clutch in the playoffs. the guy can pass and score. Although there is 200k difference in salary he is a little better than Rass Rupp and Cam. And he can bang bodies just as well.....in 0304 we were soft he and stevenson were our policemen people forget that I happen to think he was one of the best lightweights around.

Marshall has been the protective muscle on a few of our past top lines during the playoffs. Wouldn't be too surprised to see him pop in for Gio here and there on the EGG line and Gio to sub for Brylin on the Mandolpho line (as he does from time to time for a scoring threat.)

But I like that 4th line option as a more permanent thing -- Rupp/Dowd/Marshall could actually score a few...dare I say.

Later season injuries would better spell out where a Marshall could/should fit -- as he seems like a 13th forward come Playoffs -- plugged in during an emergency for a hurt player.

I wonder what number he would wear. I'm also curious as to if Wiemer has a future with this team. It seems like once he comes back from his surgery he'll be shipped out, to Lowell or another team.
