Ive said it before I work with a lot of players when they come to the Island but Lou edged out Chico as the nicest person I have ever met. One of my collegues told him I was a huge devil fan and he sat with me while killing time for the bus. In pass bys, Marty, madden, langs, Rupp and Cam stopped to talk a little. i asked him the usual whats goin to happen when Matty comes back and as predicted he laughed and said I dont know. hehehe. he was also telling me how much Cam is liked on the team, rather than past enforcers.....so for all the haters i think as long as he keeps banging bodies hes here to stay. He also hopes to bring marshall up for the playoffs if we make it, and was really surpised how much fo a gem oduya has been. Anyways before he left he THANKED Me for being a fan and asked if I needed tix for tonight. i told him i couldn't but if he could give Cam the green light for Asham part 2! Lou Rocks:yo:

I feel the reason he is so respected is the way he doesnt put himself in front of the team. He was the first player down to the lobby and last to leave he made sure all his players were there and ready(and promissed a win):D

One more reason why I believe it was Lou that challenged Gomez to step things up. Janssen is a blast to watch.

I got "The Code: The Unwritten Rules of Fighting and Retaliation in the NHL" by Ross Bernstein with forewords by Marty McSorley and Tony Twist, for a gift this year.

So far there are quotes by Peluso, Chorske, Neil Broten, Claude Lemieux, J. P. Parise, Langdon, McKenzie.

Very few Devils references, most notably the chapter on big hits does not mention Scott Stevens, although it may come up later in the book, or the author was declined or neglected to get interviews. Also no mention of NJ in the rivalries section either.

It is informative although I would have preferred Marty's book. Langenbrunner knew Jordan Staal's slewfoot on Marty in the last 3 seconds of his 85th SO showed a lackof respect and that Staal must be accountable. Janssen knew how to handle himself with Crosby as well.

Anyway most enforcers are the best locker room guys, so here's to Lou giving Cam the shot he has earned.

Apperently marshall was really well liked as well....but theres something refreshing about Cam, you kno whe loves every second of being part of this team. On a side note Oliwa was not only hated by Devils and Lou but my staff as well. Although one of my favs, he was quite obnoxious(last season) and is askirt chaser.

In the first chapter, Marty McSorley attempts to deflect a good portion of the blame for his actions against Donald Brashear in Vancouver on his coaching staff which was Pat Burns and Jacques Laperriere at the time. This was back in mid Feb. of 2000 or 2001. McSorley had a direct quote from Laperriere on it being his time to get out there late in the third. The author of the book talks about how Marty jumped on the ice on the wrong wing position and also mentions how Pat Burns challenged everyone on the Bruins bench if they were going to continue taking any further disrespect shown by the Canucks after Brashear dusted off his hands following his winning bout with McSorley, his flexing of the muscle antics directed in front of the Boston bench, and Brashear wiping out Byron Dafoe's knee upon falling on him with wreckless abandon. Bruins also lost Anson Carter long-term in that game to an injury. It effectively ended their season that night and was the blackeye on the sport that the league needed least. I thought it was kind of weak for McSorely to harp on and on about how impeccable his character was in the league only to try and absolve a lot of his actions on throwing his coaching staff under the bus. I don't think Burns or Laperriere ever told him to use his stick on Brashear's temple that night, but hell I wasn't there live and in the flesh.

Forgot Oliwa, Burns, and Laperriere(Lapierre sic).

He goes into the Bertuzzi incident to minimalize the McSorley incident and gives all the details that led up to both with many quotes from many plyers who were there. Well researched, but Doug Weight is Carolina's enforcer?

Also Tie Domi is listed as the sole hockey big hitting momentum changer with likes of Babe Ruth and legends of other sports.

And will I have to look up Larry Playfair on the NHL db.

Yea seriously, I didn't think Mogilny and Malakov were both going to be fixed so quickly. But everyone knows we lost out because we gave up a first.:sarcasm:

Great story btw.

I've heard that about Lou when a friend of mine met Lou when his son was a draft prospect and was brought in for an interview with Lou and the Devils. They met with a few teams before the draft and he said that Lou was the nicest one of them all, a very easy going person.

I met Lou after the River Rats played a regular season game against the Sound Tigers back in 2003-04. It was like meeting God or something. Very nice, but he was in a rush.

BTW, Jim McKenzie was very well liked by his teammates. You must be talking about Oliwa because Peluso, McKay, and Troy Crowder were all well liked also.

Holy smokes, you got more info out of Lou then the entire Tri-State area media ever does. I'm impressed. Did you ask about Marshall specifically or were just discussing possible moves Lou might make? It would be cool if Lou brought Grant back for the playoffs, I guess he'll get a different jersey number...

Yeah I asked about grant because he was one of my favorite players....I do have a soft spot in my heart for all grinders goons beause i was(am still in beer league) one myself. Yeah I t was like I had a preplanned interview in my head and i actually care about the team unlike most of our reporters.....he was honest and geniune and the kicker is hat he was real nice an dtook time out of his schedule to talk to a fan and not just like the isles to or rags to sell tickets.
