Interesting Facts

- This will be Teemu Selanne's 1000th NHL regular-season career game.

- Both Chris Pronger and Jean-Sebastien Giguere were drafted by the Hartford Whalers, who became the Carolina Hurricanes after Peter Karmanos bought and relocated the team to Raleigh, North Carolina.

- This is Pronger's first game at RBC Center since Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals last year. Pronger made history here when he became the first player to ever successfully score a penalty shot goal in the Stanley Cup finals.

- Ryan Getzlaf and Andrew Ladd (#16, Carolina) were teammates on the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen before their rookie NHL seasons last year. They were also members of the 2005 Canadian World Junior team that won gold in Grand Forks, North Dakota, a team that also had the talents of Cam Ward and Corey Perry.

- If Giguere were to start tonight if he was healthy enough, it would be the first time that the two most recent goalies to win the Conn Smythe Trophy would have played against each other.

Things to Look Out For

- The fans at RBC Center will be madly booing Chris Pronger and loudly cheering Rod Brind'Amour; tonight is "Rod Brind'Amour Night" at RBC Center.

- This should be an elite goal-scorers' battle. Teemu Selanne had 40 goals last year for Anaheim and Eric Staal had 45 last year for Carolina.

- Expect for the game to get chippy if Anaheim gets an early lead. Last night against Buffalo, Justin Williams took exception to the frustration of the shutout and got into a fight with Sabres forward Maxim Afinogenov.

By the Numbers

- Anaheim is 5-4-1 in ten games against the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes.

- Anaheim is 6-1-1-1 against Eastern Conference teams this season; the tenth game against the Eastern Conference is tonight.

It should be a good one!

Enjoy the game!

I think we should make a note in the GDT when fans DON"T boo Pronger.

Is it 1000 for Teemu or 998? Media Notes have it 998.

EDIT: Delayed reaction....AWESOME avatar Jerky!

Oh, duh....Media Notes said "2 games to 1000th career" meaning tonight is 999. Just ignore the sleepy person behind this post. :help:

Let's see Carolina lost to Buffalo last night and didn't play Cam Ward, with this fire wagon eastern conference hockey I don't think the Ducks can be sucked into that style tonight..

Justin Williams took exception to the frustration of the shutout and got into a fight with Sabres forward Maxim Afinogenov

I think he took exception to the elbow to the head agaist the boards when he didn't have the puck.

Shutout? C. Adams scored short handed... Buffalo has our number this year with Ryan Miller playing awsome.

Seat 102 H ....already have beers in hand before heading out....Place should be rocking tonight (very loud). The Islander game before Christmas had a playoff feel with the fans. Canes will need it after the way they palyed last night.

Good luck to you Duckies :handclap:

BraveSirRobin

Well, Anaheim almost had something going there. Not their best period, but Wall looks to be settling down some and making some nice saves.

2nd period should be a good one.

Wall is looking pretty good out there. He moves laterally efficiently, and has a good sense of puck-awareness. Of course, that opinion may change after two more periods. Ducks defense was getting flat-out beaten on some rushes up ice.

Good looking game for Wall, but our defense will have to step it up a little. The offense was a bit disappointing tonight. In the new NHL 3 is the magic number. Most nights you can not expect to win if you don't score 3 goals.

Davey Duck
12-29-2006, 10:42 PM
Damn. Not a bad game at all by Wall. Pronger's penalties killed us. Oh well, we lost to a really good team with a rookie goalie. I'm not worrying.

BTW, no offense to Wall, but I'm going with a Jiggy tribute avatar until he comes back.

that third period was total control by carolina. that team knows how to win.

Perry blew his chance to be a hero...

Except for Selanne, everyone looks alittle jet lagged. The guys couldn't make tape to tape passes. They couldn't execute. And they couldn't finish. Wall made some good saves and other the first goal, he let the Ducks hang in the game. You can't fault the kid.

They've looked that way for a couple weeks now. This is the same way they played to start the season - except then they were winning.

I'm happy to see Wall preform well. Can't blame him for the loss tonight.

Well, if the pattern (if you want to call it that) continues, then the Ducks will come back with a win in the next game.

Snap Wilson

I'm not worried. I had the game pegged as a loss before it had started. They're saving their energy for the opponents who matter. There's a world of difference in how we played against the Flames, Stars and Sharks as opposed to how we played the Yotes and Canes.

The Ducks laid off the throttle in that game, which is fine. Out of conference, on the road, it was the ideal game to do that. We didn't forecheck to our usual standard and Carolina had too much time in their defensive zone to handle the puck. And the Ducks still managed to play well against a good team on the road.

We'll see how they come out against Minnesota and Detroit. Especially Detroit, who is surging right now. The Ducks have only won four times in their history in Detroit, two of those during the 2003 playoffs. A win at the Joe would send a tremendous message.

i still think that the hit sticking call on Prongs was bs. Prongs checked Stall into the boards and his face hit the glass and not Prongs stick but he still gets called for high stick.:shakehead

I recorded the game because I was playing hockey at Anaheim Ice. But then some jackass at the rink said the score. At first I was pissed, but then I was glad I didn't waste my time watching a so-so game.
