lucscaps 12-28-2006, 01:20 PM Who is there?
Zimmerman and Frazee for the U.S.
Bergfors and Sundstrom from Swe
any other prospects there?
How has anyone looked,
watched Can vs. US and Zimmerman looked ok to me.
VernonDevilsFan 12-28-2006, 02:14 PM I believe Alexander Vasyunov is also playing for Russia.
Rochester22 12-28-2006, 03:04 PM I believe Alexander Vasyunov is also playing for Russia.
From what I have been hearing, he has been completely useless so far.
SChan* 12-28-2006, 04:04 PM bergfors has been a bust so far and was benched.
DevilsFan38 12-28-2006, 04:25 PM I haven't been watching the games, but another poster said:
Also...really flew under the radar...Sean Zimmerman. A lot of people questioned his inclusion on the team, and he looked like a rock on the back end.
I don't think Frazee has played a game in the WJC's yet (though I believe he might have played in some of the exhibitions).
M-B-30 12-28-2006, 04:59 PM bergfors has been a bust so far and was benched.
You have to be kidding?calling our best Prospect a bust?are you kidding, the guy is insane...i watched Sweden's 1st game vs Canada..and he was by far their best offensive player for Sweden that game..so im wondering were your getting your info from...
Brooklyndevil 12-28-2006, 05:22 PM Frazee hasn't played a minute in the first two games and that may be a good thing, because if it was he who lost the first two games, I'm sure there would be a thread or two about him sucking. Call it a Devils fan paranoia.
NJ_Devil_Boy 12-28-2006, 05:24 PM bergfors has been a bust so far and was benched.
Funny how MANY at HF were bashing Lou for not allowing him to go right from the start and said it would hurt this development and confidence (if he didn't go).
:biglaugh: :shakehead
Give'em Hell! 12-28-2006, 05:34 PM bergfors has been a bust so far and was benched.
he leads the team with 8 shots so when exactly was he benched? ok so no goals so far but its been two games. should backstrom be considered a bust because he has one assist so far?

he was benched in the 3rd period and then the first line started to produce.
Riddarn 12-30-2006, 01:44 PM Swedens third goal against Germany was scored by Alex Sundström from Bergfors. A very nice shot too, might I add.
Bergfors looked much better today with Fredrik Pettersson (also plays in NA) and Alex Sundström than he did with Bäckström.
Rabid Ranger 12-30-2006, 02:44 PM Frazee with the start (and win) today for the U.S. against Slovakia. He played very well and I expect we'll see him tomorrow against Sweden (in a must win game).

Bergfors and Sundstrom, eh?
I'm looking forward to seeing them playing together wearing the Red and Black.
I Hate Tie DOMI 12-30-2006, 04:30 PM Vasyunov scored a goal in the 6-1 win against Belarus, I believe.

I remember hearing that Sundstrom had offensive potential, but he was often injured (Foster anyone?). I would be thrilled if he played in NJ someday.
Devilsfanatic 12-30-2006, 06:33 PM When is the last time a Devil played for Team Canada in the WJC ? I only remember Niedermayer in 1990 as the last to play because Brodeur never made it. Since then it's been zero.

Mike Van Ryn captained them I think if that counts.

I can't recall a time. Hopefully Corrente next year though.

I don't know MVR never played a game, but he was a Devils draft pick so that counts for sure.
Americans 12-31-2006, 03:33 AM Bergfors looks great
Jonathan. 12-31-2006, 01:39 PM What's weird is that Bergfors is having a fairly bad tournament and Frazee has been fairly solid.
Would've thought it would've been the exact opposite.

I thought Frazee hasn't really played?

He played (and won) the last two must win games against Slovakia and Sweden.

Oh nice my bad...good to see him doing well.
Jersey Fresh 12-31-2006, 09:04 PM I was always under the impression he played well for national youth team call-ups, so I was surprised when everyone was bashing on him. (Frazee) Good for him to prove the doubters wrong thus far

I'd love for him to prove me wrong. I'd love for all the US kids I bash to prove me wrong!
:)
Niedermayer21 01-04-2007, 12:57 AM Vasyunov scored for Russia on the PP versus Sweden in the semis. Bergfors disappointed again.
I would like to see Vasyunov and Alex Sundstrom playing in Lowell next season. If Bergfors isn't ready for the NHL yet, then he will play in Lowell until he is or until we can get someone good for him.
I really hope that Bergfors isn't the next "Suglobov." Who knows? Only time will tell.
Adios amigos...:yo:
MissionHockey 01-04-2007, 01:14 AM Just because he's having a poor tournament, doesn't put him on the lists of busts.

Well, I know you'll probably bash him for the shoot-out, but Frazee has been quite good in this tourney.
Couple that with his continued solid play for the Gophers, I'd say he is maturing. I still have my concerns, but it looks like he is developing into a solid prospect.

Are you nuts? He's 19 and he's already in his second season in the AHL and you're ready to label him a bust, better yet deal him? Give him time, man. I'm sure a big part of him and Backstrom not producing is that teams are shadowing them like crazy.
He's having a good season in the AHL against men, and he proved he could produce at the WJC's last year at 18. No reason for concern at all.
On a lighter note, I'm glad to see our lesser-known guys, namely Sundstrom, produce. Vasyunov seems to have put his slow start behind him and it looks like Rolston finally made the right decision and started Frazee.
Future looks bright
Jason MacIsaac 01-04-2007, 03:17 AM Impressed with Frazee's abilities, not impressed with his mental game and confidence. Could hold him from being a good pro goaltender.
Sundstrom has a canon, Sweden should have been useing him on the point.
Bergfors looks slow, not explosive at all. Still a good prospect.
Vasyunov looks so much like Afinoganov it is scary. Needs alot of development time. Very raw.
If Zimmerman could gain 2 steps on his stride he would be a top defense prospect. Untill then he is too slow for the new NHL.

I want too se Bergfors in the Swedish Elite league next season. The AHL destroys European players. Better for Bergfors development to play in sweden, More skills. AHL = American **** League

If Bergfors plays in Sweden I'm pretty sure that breaches his contract with the Devils.

I hope so. Its better too play in Sweden. AHL its not good for this guy. He will be free and another club will sign him later. Not good för Devils, better for Bergfors and his development. Its only "bang and go" in the American Hockey League, Not god for a guy like Bergfors
Yes, Sundstrom has a great shot! Bergfors was a negative suprise, unfortunately. Many had expected magic from Bergfors, huge expectations. But I don't make to many conclusions because of this. It's only one tournament and the guy is young.
Chicago can be happy though. Our d-man Hjalmarsson looked great and also played a very physical game. The guy is simply made for the NHL, a real favorit of mine. Something like Nik Kronwall but bigger and stronger, he was crushing people out there. Especially against Canada and USA.
Also we may have a new good swedish goalie in Joel Gistedt. Enroth though wasn't good in the semifinals. It was a controversial move of coach Bendelin to play Enroth in the quartfinals. I mean, why do you scratch a perfect goalie? In the semifinals he fell apart. While Gistedt only let in one more goal.
Gistedt is playing for Frolunda which is Lundqvist's former team and I know that they have some contact. Perhaps Lundqvist is mentoring him a bit. Gistedt also has the same personal goalie trainer which Lundqvist had.
I belive Gistedt is undrafted which I find very, very strange!
Also Gistedt is the number 1 goalie in Frolunda and has outplayed swedish veteran goalie Tommy Salo this season.

He should be in the NHL next season.
Brooklyndevil 01-05-2007, 12:43 PM Lou was better off keeping Bergfors in Lowell. Sweden fans all over him. But a big congratualtions to Frazee and Zimmerman and the rest of team USA for the Bronze.
Listened to game and it sounded like Frazee had a great game.

Frazee was great. He had a terrific tourney. I Hope this will carry over to the rest of his season. He has a great chance to win a title. A Bronze medal and an NCAA title would make for a pretty good year for a kid who takes alot of crap.
devs4L 01-05-2007, 01:06 PM I think this tournament really raised Frazee's stock. There were some doubts about him being a good prospect, and maybe there still are some, but when your team is 0-2, and you step in and go on to lose only once and win the bronze, that's a big positive, and now his international record is 12-1.
While Bergfors didn't have a great tournament, he is in no way a bust. Bergfors is still the devils best prospect by far, and one of the best players under 20 playing in the AHL right now. He'll be fine.
Sundstrom and Zimmerman were very pleasant surprises. While Zimmerman won't woo you with speed, or his hands, or his shot, he's very solid in his own end, and can throw his weight around. Sundstrom to me just seems very solid all around. Sort of like a Brylin type player. He has a wicked shot, some decent moves, good defensively, and can get fiesty. He's still young but I can see him panning out into a top 6-7 prospect for the devs in the next few years.
Vasyunov is probably the most jaw dropping player offensively that the devils have right now. The comment of him being similar to Afinogenov is spot on. He has incredible speed with just as fast hands, and a great shot to go along with it. Once Bergfors graduates, I feel Vasyunov will be considered the devs best prospect barring any Parise, Zajac, Bergfors type picks for the devils in the next 2-3 years.

Thanks for the info! It's too bad I didn't really get to see any of this.
Niedermayer21 01-05-2007, 11:47 PM Can anyone read on this site? I said that "Bergfors disappointed again" and that "I really hope he isn't the next 'Suglobov.'" Nowhere did I call him a bust. NO WHERE MAN!!! If he turns out to be a bust, he may be dealt like Suglobov was. I thought Suglobov was going to be a player, but all we could get for him was Ken Klee as a rental. Stop overrating our prospects! Until they are regulars in the NHL, they are all suspects.
BTW, 19-years-old is a young man. Bergfors is not a baby. How old is Jordan Staal? He looks pretty good playing in the NHL! Bergfors is no phenom. Jordan Staal is. But Bergfors can still turn out to be a very good player. I just don't see him being Jaromir Jagr.
Ok, I made my point. If I get crapped on anymore on this site, I'm coming over to your house and kicking your arse. :madfire: I'll bring Cam Janssen with me--MR. ONE SHOT ON GOAL ALL SEASON. ;)
