littleD 12-27-2006, 05:51 AM Ugh, this one starts even later than yesterday's Canada game? Sucks. :(
Can I watch the TSN stream in Sweden?
Incarnation 12-27-2006, 08:39 AM Can I watch the TSN stream in Sweden?
Use TVUPlayer. I'm not sure if they show this game but sure there will be some.
ReLyT 12-27-2006, 09:04 AM Anyone think Harts will throw Gagner back into a offensive role? Or do you think like me and he's done for the tournament and will be the 13th forward from here on out?
Tuggy 12-27-2006, 09:08 AM So is Price starting again today?
Injektilo 12-27-2006, 09:11 AM Jeez, 2:30am... I'd better stay up real late tonight and get ready for this....
Use TVUPlayer. I'm not sure if they show this game but sure there will be some.
So TSN's livestream don't work?
littleD 12-27-2006, 09:38 AM So TSN's livestream don't work?
Only in Canada.
mnhowitzer 12-27-2006, 09:43 AM Best of luck to both teams, make it a barnburner!
MURedHawk 12-27-2006, 09:58 AM On paper and looking at past history I think it's a 3-1 Canada win. Hopefully the US coaches can pull their head out of the sand and make the needed corrections for the win.
If US has some quick confidence boosters and plays with some good passion I see a tie game with a great 4 on 4 overtime win for the US

xalcyx 12-27-2006, 11:52 AM Possible lines?
I just put some v-cash on the USA. I'm weird like that.
God Bless Canada 12-27-2006, 12:01 PM As an ardent Team Canada supporter, of course I think Canada will win. But this is the type of game that scares the heck out of me. Normally I'd look at the schedule and think it was advantageous to Canada. Canada get a tough tournament opener against Sweden. The U.S. gets their pushover game out of the way right off the bat against Germany. Games like that are nice, but they're also a breeding ground for bad habits.
Then the Germans throw a kink into the plans and beat the U.S. in OT. The U.S. is going to be a very pissed off team, and they're going to be playing with a lot to prove today. Over the past decade, they have always saved their best hockey for Canada. Their best game at last year's tournament was against Canada.
Habsfan18 12-27-2006, 12:13 PM Go Canada Go!
Tonight's a great night of hockey for me, first this game...then Montreal vs Washington later tonight!
Hoping for another great performance by Carey Price!
Avery4Byng 12-27-2006, 12:35 PM HOOOOOLYYYYYYY GO CANADA
just put my vcash on the canadians, looking for another win!
Jedda 12-27-2006, 01:05 PM So TSN's livestream don't work?
The RDS stream works
Skyblaze 12-27-2006, 01:10 PM Sweet, they're saying that Hartsburg bumped up Little to play with Toews and O'Marra
I like Little's playstyle; i think he'll do well there. Gagner was disappointing in the first game.
Murderworks 12-27-2006, 01:13 PM I've been using the RDS stream. I get to see some games, and I might even walk away knowing a word or two of French.
TravisUlrich 12-27-2006, 01:13 PM Let the predictions begin!
USA breaks Canada's shutout streak but still loses:
Can 3-1
I predict an evenly matched game but in the end Carey Price outshines his counterpart.
kovalev27hf 12-27-2006, 01:16 PM well if bourdon and letang play the same way they did last night the us will def break that shutout streak
Live in the Now 12-27-2006, 01:16 PM Radio feed, por favor?
Oilbleeder 12-27-2006, 01:19 PM i'll say...
4-2 Canada
Close game the first two periods, but Canada takes the third and with it they take the game.
The n00b King ©* 12-27-2006, 01:26 PM yeah i def wasnt impressed with Canada's play yesterday.
too much fumbling with the puck, all kinds of turnovers. if sweden had'nt been so nervous in front of their home crowd, they could of taken that game.
canada's team better step up. but let's face it, we'll not have a team like last year's one with guys like Crosby, Bergeron and Phaneuf...
gobolt7 12-27-2006, 01:30 PM Just a pre-emptive warning for anyone participating in todays thread. I am not going to have a repeat of last years Canada/US game. Any personal attacks, political talk, or trolling will be met with warning points. No exceptions.
Canada is gonna take it....I hope
McMahonCHN 12-27-2006, 01:32 PM Does anyone know if there is an english video feed online?
I have Centre Ice, but am stuck at the office so I am forced to plug into the RDS feed right now.
Thanks!
TravisUlrich 12-27-2006, 01:34 PM canada's team better step up. but let's face it, we'll not have a team like last year's one with guys like Crosby, Bergeron and Phaneuf...
Dude, that was two years ago. But yeah, I don't think we'll ever have a better team than that one just because there was an NHL lockout and any and all eligible players played were able to play. I think that WJHC was the year where Canada proved how good their hockey program really is, because if you think about it Sidney Crosby, Jordan Staal, and Gilbert Brule could still be playing for this years team!
Katicus 12-27-2006, 01:36 PM CANADA!!!!!!!!:handclap:

Anyone getting the RDS stream to work?
barrytrotzsneck 12-27-2006, 01:43 PM teams look pretty evenly matched early, no real chances coming, equal time spent in each end.
Skyblaze 12-27-2006, 01:43 PM Hmm, they seem to have moved the broadcast camera down for this one. It's too bad, I happened to like the high camera angle from yesterday's game.

TravisUlrich 12-27-2006, 01:46 PM A very careful came so far. Looks like they are jockeying for who's going to control the game physically.
The n00b King ©* 12-27-2006, 01:47 PM i guess im used to seeing NHL games too often, but is it me or do the players seem to kind of suck at handling the puck while skating?
Declassified 12-27-2006, 01:47 PM Very impressed with the Refs. they are letting them play.

Good pressure by the canadian 2nd line. Neal's just lucky he didn't get called for a hit from behind right now.

Thank you!
barrytrotzsneck 12-27-2006, 01:50 PM brief 2-man advantage for the US. Slashing on Ryan Parent.
Cherepanov 71 12-27-2006, 01:50 PM Another US Powerplay coming
That was a rather obvious penalty by Parent.
Too many penalties boys.

turnbuckle* 12-27-2006, 01:52 PM Perhaps Gord Miller should pay attention to the ref's signals - that was a holding penalty not a slash; did the same with the last one too; just look at the signal Gord.

TravisUlrich 12-27-2006, 01:55 PM I use to think that IIHF games where far less chippy and much more fluid than NHL games, but now it seems like its the other way around. There seems to be a lot of hooks and tugs, although not still not as bad as the "old" NHL.
daikan 12-27-2006, 01:55 PM That was from last years game.

It's funny actually...that's a product of the "new" NHL. I noticed that a lot in yesterday's game. So much hooking, clutching, grabbing etc. Made me appreciate the NHL game ALOT more.
Cherepanov 71 12-27-2006, 01:57 PM Almost sneaks through Price's pads
DaveG 12-27-2006, 01:57 PM Great scoring chance for the US there, just didn't find the back of the net.

IIHF games have always been Chippy. they replayed gold medal games on ESPN classic Canada last weekend. there was tons of hooking, clutching holding, lumberjack action
CANADA GOAL Steve Downie

The D-man is generally supposed to take the passer on a 2 on 1, leaving the shooter for the goalie. That said, the US dman should have shaded a bit more to his right and not given Downie such a great shooting angle.
Phil333 12-27-2006, 02:02 PM I just got home. How have the Americans looked?

UBCsalmonslayer 12-27-2006, 02:07 PM Zatkoff looked pretty bad there.
I think it is becomming pretty apparent that Price > Zatkoff, who looks like he has been fighting the puck all game. Price looks rock solid.
Oilbleeder 12-27-2006, 02:07 PM Skille (sp?) Has really been one of the better or maybe even the best forward for US today, he's really been hustling all the time. Great player already.
Dig Out Your Soul 12-27-2006, 02:07 PM I had almost forgotten how stupid the player in the crease rule is.
Zimmer12 12-27-2006, 02:08 PM Im suprised we haven't seen much of USA's firepower as of yet. Great job by our defenceman containing Okposo, Mueller thus far.
TravisUlrich 12-27-2006, 02:08 PM This crease rule, how did Tomas Holmstrom survive during his time in Sweden?
UBCsalmonslayer 12-27-2006, 02:08 PM about the IIHF rule regarding play being blown dead as soon as an attacking player enters the crease?
Skyblaze 12-27-2006, 02:09 PM Canada really dominates along the boards. That's the story so far for me.
Also, Zatkoff is looking shaky today, and he wasn't much better against Germany (especially that overtime goal). USA should look into getting Frazee on the ice; he can't be any worse.
Zimmer12 12-27-2006, 02:09 PM Skille (sp?) Has really been one of the better or maybe even the best forward for US today, he's really been hustling all the time. Great player already.
I noticed this too. Skille looks like something special. His rushes have been something to watch.
Declassified 12-27-2006, 02:09 PM all the US shots coming from the outside
yah, Canada did a good job with that yesterday against Sweden to make sure not many good shoots went through. Canada's D is playing the US perfectly, Can they hold up? still 2 periods left.
1st period over.
Great period. Canada is skating hard, the D is playing great and the Offense is shinning. Much better Effort than against Sweden.
Maken* 12-27-2006, 02:09 PM Puck was in the crease, it was a quick whistle. Typical.
Habsfan18 12-27-2006, 02:10 PM Anyone know how many shots the US had in that period?
Didn't seem like too many. Then again, it didn't seem like Canada had many shots either.
UBCsalmonslayer 12-27-2006, 02:10 PM I had almost forgotten how stupid the player in the crease rule is.
I bet most goalies, especially Martin Brodeur, would disagree with you here... allthough I would tend to agree with you, it takes an element (crashing the net) out of the game.
Zimmer12 12-27-2006, 02:10 PM Haven't heard too much from Chorney. Heard his name at the end there, but other than that, thats about it. Jack Johnson, everyone lets you know he has the puck.:biglaugh:

That's an overstatement. The game is far from over and the US can still win this game.
LeafDangler 12-27-2006, 02:12 PM Anone else reminded of Martin Gerber (pre-suckiness of course) when they watch Carey Price? Big positional goalie. Great on angles and rebound control.
jkrdevil 12-27-2006, 02:12 PM Canada is playing well defensively the US had no real scoring chances that period. The US goaltending looks shaky. He should have stopped the first goal and probably the second although I couldn't tell if the second was deflected.
windflare 12-27-2006, 02:13 PM Bourdon really is becoming a great all-around D-man - he reacts and responds to the deficiencies and strengths of his partner so well. With Letang, he has adopted more of a stay-at-home style, to cover for the brainfarts and pinches that Letang has been having this tournament. He stood up Skille, I think, and sprung the puck for Letang and Downie, who scored the first goal. Great stuff.
Letang needs to pay more attention to his back end game though.
discostu 12-27-2006, 02:13 PM Haven't heard too much from Chorney. Heard his name at the end there, but other than that, thats about it. Jack Johnson, everyone lets you know he has the puck.:biglaugh:
Has Lee been on the ice much? His ice time was limited last game. It sounds like they're continuing to give the Johnsons a ton of ice time though, so, I'm guessing not much.
UBCsalmonslayer 12-27-2006, 02:14 PM Anone else reminded of Martin Gerber (pre-suckiness of course) when they watch Carey Price? Big positional goalie. Great on angles and rebound control.
Yes on this point, but Price does not remind me of Gerber, but rather another stellar Canadian international goalie: Sean Burke.
FearTheFlyers 12-27-2006, 02:15 PM Jack and Erik certianly aren't living up to the hype.
PMP5030 12-27-2006, 02:15 PM Sigh... Jack Johnson had a big problem last year at Michigan pinching in and leading to odd-man rushes the other way. He's actually been much better this year in his discipline and positioning. He's an emotional player and he's probably too wound up again, which is when he gets in trouble.
And as someone who gets to see Zatkoff fairly regularly, he's really good for Miami. I thought coming in he should get the #1 over Frazee, who's been pretty mediocre for Minnesota. But Zatkoff seems to be reacting slow to the plays, not sure what his problem is, definately fighting his game right now.
Habsfan18 12-27-2006, 02:15 PM does anyone have the shots after the 1st?
mnhowitzer 12-27-2006, 02:16 PM Saw the last 10 minutes of the first and it was all Canada, by far the quicker and more aggressive team. This one will get out of hand if it continues like that.
Great first period for the team in Red.
emb24 12-27-2006, 02:16 PM Canada is playing well defensively the US had no real scoring chances that period. The US goaltending looks shaky. He should have stopped the first goal and probably the second although I couldn't tell if the second was deflected.
i wouldn't blame him on either goal..the 2 on 1 or the pp goal --he was screened and the puck was deflected
Zimmer12 12-27-2006, 02:16 PM Has Lee been on the ice much? His ice time was limited last game. It sounds like they're continuing to give the Johnsons a ton of ice time though, so, I'm guessing not much.
Yeah, it seems they have been taking in good use of the Johnson's. I noticed Lee a few times. But it looks as if the Johnson's are on everytime the Downie-Cogliano-Marchand line is on. The commentators really haven't talked much about the American defensive matchups they want to have on the ice, but more that Parent and Staal are to shut down the Mueller line?
UBCsalmonslayer 12-27-2006, 02:17 PM Bourdon really is becoming a great all-around D-man - he reacts and responds to the deficiencies and strengths of his partner so well.
I love Bourdon.... can't wait to see him on the Canucks blue line for years to come.
wildone26* 12-27-2006, 02:17 PM Canada is playing much more physical and with much more jump then yesterday. Much better performance from them. The U.S started to look threatening in the second half of the period, starting with a long PP, but the penalty they took late in the period while in control in Canada's zone was a pretty stupid penalty and cost them pushing for a goal to tie the game and a second goal for Canada to boot.
turnbuckle* 12-27-2006, 02:18 PM I really wish McGuire would take a look at replays once in awhile. Man he gets annoying. Miscalls plenty of goalscorers because he doesn't see a tip or whatever, same thing with penalties. Then he babbles through the replay and doesn't bother having a look to notice he looks like a numbskull for not seeing it right and still talking about it.
Pyatt's goal was a prime example - He's babbling on and on about how it was all Franson's work and that he'd scored the goal...finally when he's stopped yapping they hear the end of the goal announced and realize Pyatt had scored it.
Pierre then spends the next minute talking about Pyatt being "credited" with the goal before he takes the time to actually look at the replay. Then, and only then, does he finally acknowledge that Pyatt may have indeed had something to do with that goal - it was headed straight for the goalie's chest protector before he redirected it as was plainly obvious from the first replay moment earlier; hell i noticed that he tipped it during live play.
Now even Duthie speaks twice about Pyatt being "credited" with the goal. Look at the replay and stop listening to Pierre you doof
us.
I don't normally rag on announcers, but it's Pierre's arrogance that is hindering his job; the above scenario has repeated itself so many times it's not even recountable. You wear glasses for a reason Pierre; there's lots that you miss.
sheed36 12-27-2006, 02:19 PM Yes on this point, but Price does not remind me of Gerber, but rather another stellar Canadian international goalie: Sean Burke.
Good call and I totally agree.Price looks big in the net and playing well right now.Hope he keeps it up.Go Canada!!
Boomhower 12-27-2006, 02:19 PM Letang needs to pay more attention to his back end game though.
That's putting it lightly, he's completely careless with the puck.
Westcoasthabsfan 12-27-2006, 02:20 PM That's an overstatement. The game is far from over and the US can still win this game.

BruinsButton 12-27-2006, 02:23 PM I´m going to make a lot of judgements about the America team in the first 5 minutes of the second period. If their coaches have any aptitude they will have those guys playing desperate hockey. If they come out like they did in the first period they´re going to the relagation round.
Canada playing it's game to a tee thus far.Dominating physically and along the boards, great PK work, getting under the skin of some of their top players like JJ and it's paying off.Great period by Staal,Downie(keep it under control Steve!!)Toews.Everyones been playing good so far and that periods a wrap.
Let's hope they can keep it up,long way from being over.

Skyblaze 12-27-2006, 02:24 PM Zatkoff's postioning is really bad. he is always like this? or is he just shaky?
I haven't seen enough of Zatkoff to say if he's always like this but from what I've seen, while he has great lateral movement and a good glove hand, he's having trouble covering his five-hole and angles.
Price on the other hand is making it look easy. The USA team hasn't really challenged him though; they don't go to the inside. They didn't do it against Germany and they're not doing it today. When a team makes even the german defense look good...
I don't think anybody has mentioned it, but i think Staal is doing great. He makes everything look so easy, playing very physical too. Out of the whole team i would probably want him on the my team the most. And wow, Cogliano looks even faster than yesterday!
Cherepanov 71 12-27-2006, 02:25 PM US has to pick it up.
Coach J 12-27-2006, 02:25 PM I was thinking the same thing after the goal... but usually I like McQuire's commentary, except how he calls way too many players "special".
Well, everyone is "special" in their own way. Toews is special because he likes to sacrifice for his team, Letang is special because he started the season in Pittsburgh, Neal is special for his forechecking, and Bourdon is special because of his unibrow :sarcasm:
Declassified 12-27-2006, 02:26 PM Canada PP coming up, thanks to Downie being strong with the puck on the boards

ZombieMatt 12-27-2006, 02:29 PM Nice goal by the US.
I've been shocked at how much trouble the US has had containing players in their own zone. This team has some outstanding defensively, and very phyisically strong, players and they're not performing as I expected.

Riddarn 12-27-2006, 02:30 PM Wow. Canada is simply just better than the US today. Either Sweden played very well yesterday or Canada is alot better today. I'm assuming it is the latter, because there is no way that the US is a worse team than Sweden.

Oilbleeder 12-27-2006, 02:33 PM Two things:
1.) Isn't Skille and Toews both drafted by Chicago, Dayum, its gonna suck to play against them in the future.
2.) whats the PP Unit for US?? I thought EJ and JJ were at the points but meuller (sp?) is there.
TeNeIghtY 12-27-2006, 02:33 PM Is JJ really better than EJ to quaterback the PP ??
I'm not impressed with his play so far
barrytrotzsneck 12-27-2006, 02:33 PM the USA is getting lots of shots, now, but they're not getting enough traffic in front of Price. He's seeing all his shots.

DaveG 12-27-2006, 02:37 PM Luck goes the USAs way on that one, not that I'm complaining. Great play by Carman to head in to cover any rebounds, Price just didn't expect it to rebound off the boards.

ZombieMatt 12-27-2006, 02:38 PM That was a really nice rush and then a good job on the follow by Carman. Really poor coverage by the two defenders on that play. The Canadians need to buckle down and get their act together, because this American team has, IMO, more firepower than they do and will have the distinct advantage if play opens up.

ronthecivil 12-27-2006, 02:40 PM But I think they are getting back into it. Johnson got a good lick on stall, that could be bad for us.
