NHL Debut is a real mood-lifter for Huskins (Written by Eric Stephens).
The mood in the Ducks' dressing room was downbeat Saturday after a rare loss, but that couldn't keep a smile off the face of Kent Huskins.

The only sour note was the Ducks' 2-0 loss.

"It was a pretty neat experience," Huskins said. "Obviously, it would have been nice to get a win. But it was kind of exhilarating that after all these years in the minors, to finally get that first game is pretty special."

The Lynx rolled to a 5-4 victory on the 22nd with four PP goals and a dandy split-the-d goal from Bittner with three minutes left to take the lead. Mike Brodeur stopped 17 shots for his first win of the season.

GOALIE ROTATION
For the first time all season, the Sharks will have a different netminder than expected from the regular rotation. Ron Wilson has been as steady as clockwork in rotating Toskala and Evgeni Nabokov every other contest, but Nabokov will start a second straight game Tuesday night against Anaheim.

Before people try reading too much into it, the decision was based upon recent time off, not on how either one is playing.

Toskala has not played nor had a hard skate in five days, while Nabokov played just three nights ago and, if not for the Christmas break, would likely be playing tonight or Wednesday night. No need getting two netminders off schedule.

“We decided it the other day,” said Ron Wilson. “I talked to Wayne Thomas and we thought it made sense. It is nothing more than common sense.”

And Toskala will be on the docket for Thursday’s game with Phoenix.

Toskala is supposed to start today, but they are going to go with Nobakov.

As does everybody. So nobody targets the injured part.

Nabokov looks good on shots from the point with traffic...but so so on Green's unscreened shot, and went fishing on Kunitz's wraparound. And then on that unscreened shot just recently (didn't see whom, but the right pad save) he gave up a juicy rebound.

Maybe we should get less traffic in front of Nabokov.

Anyone notice Beauchemin get benched and Huskins and Dipenta rotated shifts with Niedermayer? outside of a botched pass Huskins did about as well as you can expect.

Nabakov let in some softies, thanks Nabby.

It was pretty amazing how the team played differently with wall in net, alot more blocked shots than usual. and it was like the Sharks just expected Wall would lose it someway.

That call on Pronger was bull, good thing the Sharks didn't score.

I give the ducks full marks on how they handled the adversity. Pronger and Niedermayer both stepped it up after Giguere got hurt. Niedermayer was outstanding on the 5 on 3 kill, Pronger played one of his meaner games of the year.

Ok thanks for clearing that up, the Sharks broadcast made zero mention about it so I assumed he was benched, they also made no mention about what happened to Marchant.

the only bonus to Marchant being hurt was the increased ice time for Getzlaf and Perry.

Did you miss the part where he named our top 2 goaltenders? Typically that's just about as bad as news can get. Our defense though is capable of making up somewhat for that, hence 2-0 Mike Wall.

It'll test this teams character, this team needs some adversity so they can figure out how to handle it come playoff time.

Yes there were some injuries but.

-The Ducks won despite the fact the momentum completely swinging once the sharks tied the game
-This was a textbook game why Niedermayer and Pronger can make a huge difference. Not only did we not have our 3 and 4 defensemen but we lost Giguere and went with the 3rd/4th string goalie and managed to pull it out.
-The Kids got some big minutes in a pressure packed environment.

As long as the injuries aren't too serious much more good than bad came from this game IMO.

And yes, an incredibly satisfying win. Game of the Year for us, as far as I'm concerned. Niedermayer and Pronger were huge, but full credit to O'Brien, Joe D and Huskins. They all nutted up.

Sammy was huge, another one of his Bob Gainey games. Loved our forecheck, loved the physical game.

Hmmm, sure looks like Carlyle road Giguere straight into the ground with those 14 consecutive starts. Hopefully its not too serious.

We'll see if the depth on defense can rise to the occasion. This is the exact situation I feared in the pre-season: lose one of the studs OR lose two of the next tier. I almost crapped my pants seeing DiPenta out on a 5-on-3 kill against the Sharks. But, O'Donnell sounds pretty minor so maybe he's close to a return. I sure hope so on that one too.

Yeah but what choice does Carlyle have? though with Wall in net there is alot more emphasis on blocking shots, it appears but the forecheck was alot more aggressive as well.

Blocking shots means more injuries. The Ducks can't afford to lose more guys right now.

Ugh, we aren't getting any breaks right now in the schedule. At Carolina, at Minnesota, at Detroit, then finally home to play Columbus (I'll be there!), then Detroit, then on the road again to Nashville and Dallas. With these injuries, this will definitely be the toughest stretch yet.

yeah I think that's one of the reasons this team has avoided the injury bug. I don't think Giguere is hurt too seriously, having some adversity isn't a bad thing especially if you perform well through it and that was a big positive I took from this game.

We got all our schedule breaks early. Luckily we capitalized on them.

I like Huskins. I don't really worry too much about him. Pretty generic bottom pairing guy.

If Giguere's injured I'd rather he sit until March or whatever it takes for him to come back fully healthy. None of that rushing back garbage Carlyle pulled with Bryz. Randy's a bit of a dunce when it comes to burning our goalies out.

Great game though.
