Should be a great game, I'm really excited to see Backstrom and Berglund for the first time.

I think Canada will win this one. I think it was a very good lesson to have Sweden beat them in the exhibition, especially in the fashion they did - coming back. I think this will make Canada turn it up a notch, and ultimately the very good Swede team will be unable to match them.

To be honest, and I hope I don't seem arrogant, I would like the games to be a lot closer this year. Last year Canada pretty much dominated every single game and there were never really any times that I feared they would lose. Lets hope for a more competitive tournament!

Riddarn

I hope the game will be entertaining. Thats the only thing what I'm looking forward too, entertainment, because there is no way Sweden beats that team twice in one week. No way.

The canadians will win by at least a two goal margin. I predict 5-2 to Canada.

Go Canada Go!

Shut down Backstrom and it should be an easy win.

I'm not sure. If Bäckström fails to deliver, there's a few players left that can step it up a notch. Bergfors, Patrik Berglund and Patric Hörnqvist should be able to create some offense.

Of course we'd be vulnerable without a producing Bäckström though.

As for the game, lets just say Bäckström has had a single point in the exhibition games, he's due.

I think it will be a relatively easy victory for Canada,

5-2.

This is not the game to win for Sweden. Slovakia is.

I guess, the lines of Canada will look like this:

Marchand- Cogliano- Downie
Gagner –Toews- O'Marra
Pyatt -Little- Neal
Helm -Cliche- Bertram
McArdle

Letang-Bourdon
Parent-Staal
Russell-Franson
Alzner

Price-starter
Irving-backup

I predict 3-2 Canada .

An Ape called Yoko
12-26-2006, 07:50 AM
Swedish lines will probably look like this:

Nicklas Bergfors - Nicklas Bäckström - Robin Lindqvist
Andreas Thuresson - Patrik Berglund - Martin Johansson
Fredrik Pettersson - Patrik Zackrisson - Alexander Sundström
Patrik Hörnqvist - Magnus Isaksson - Linus Omark
Andreas Molinder

Niklas Hjalmarsson - Daniel Rahimi
Jonas Junland - Jonas Ahnelöv
Alexander Ribbenstrand - Alexander Hellström
Patrik Nevalainen

----
One helluva waste to have Hörnqvist on the fourth line and have a player like Martin Johansson with Berglund on the second line. Martin is absolutely worthless in the offensive part of the game.. and has no finishing skills whatsoever. But Bendelin couldn´t care less about that. He wants 0-0 hockey like the quarterfinal last year... He has built this team on twowayplayers... It needs more offensively skilled forwards which we have. But those players werent even invited to the camp (Möller, Gynge, D. Axelsson).. and now also Wandell was cut as the last player, who has the ability to the unexpected in the offensive zone.

I agree with most of that, especially about Hörnquist. I want him playing alongside Berglund.

Well, if Sweden gets steam rolled today, maybe Bendelin will change his mind.

In order to do that, he'll have to focus on trying to refrain from taking 26 minutes of penalties.

I know it's difficult not to get penalized for over 20 minutes in a single game with these international refs and all.

Yeah, even though I dislike that you can't score by kicking the puck, I understand the reasoning (you don't want someone to kick the goaltender who is probably laying on the ice) but on a face-off?

Annoying is an understatement!!
I have NO idea if it's the bigger rink, lively boards or ****** ice but there may as well be no-one on the point out there because the puck's going to keep on going where its going.

Canada looked very bad on the PP. Plus, they have now shown any solid puck movement in the offensive zone. They need to get their rythm into it, because right now, they haven't looked comfortable.

Price has looked confident out there. Always prone to a softie, but as of now, he's been solid.

Decent first period by the swedes. If they can keep this play up then I'm sure the numbers won't be too embarassing. As long as they play reasonably entertaining and don't waste too much energy on this game I'm satisfied. Gotto save something for the Slovaks and Germans, those are the teams we have to beat.

both teams started strong. sweden looks like they can skate a bit - not sure they're in Canada's league but they seem to lack finish - that may be because Canada is exceptionally strong on D...canada seems to have some problems positionally on the pp because of the size of the rink and speed of the boards. we did take over late as sweden is having problems with our speed and transition game..
it is the first 'real' game for both teams so team chemistry is a factor - though we do have 11 guys back this year

He looks like a mess to me.
Caughing the puck up, fanning on great chances and isn't finishing his checks. He just got a lot of icetime.

Some nice saves early by Price, especially on Sweden's first PP chance.

He's playing pretty well. Has setup teammates a few times where they just had the puck bounce over their stick. Set Russel up for half of a wide open net which he missed and also got an assist on the second goal.

Bourdon has been good, unfortunately his partner isn't holding up his end of the deal. As a result Canada has become trapped in their own end for long periods of time while Bourdon is on the ice, but it's mostly due to Letang who has been a giveaway machine today.

Sweden has shown much better than Canada in this game, even though it doesn't look like they'll earn a result. I don't know why Canada seems to be so passive in pressuring Sweden when they posses the puck, perhaps Hartsburg has them paranoid with all his 'big ice' talk?

You're obviously not watching him very close, he left a Swedish forward alone in front of the net during that shift where Canada was hemmed in deep and he ended up with the puck and a scoring opportunity. He hasn't been brutally bad or anything but he had a two minute stretch there (when I made my post) where he looked pretty bad positionally to me.

I find that big ice generally favours trapping or teams that don't forcheck. And I feel that artists like Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin, even Floppa when he's not injured or grumpy, are MUCH more entertaining to watch when they play on NHL-sized rinks. IMHO of course.

Thank God someone else doesn't think that Letang is the defenseman that McGuire makes him out to be. He was the only defenseman on the Canadian team last year - besides Pokulok - that did nothing to impress me, and I felt that he was having a hard time controlling the puck on the point on the PP.
