DevilFisch 12-22-2006, 01:58 PM The New Jersey Devils (18-12-3) visit the Verizon Center to take on the Washington Capitals (15-11-7)
The GAME is at 7:00 PM, EST Not 7:30, not 8, but 7.
If you are local, you can watch it on FSNY2 tonight
OR
You can listen to it on radio if you turn it to 660 AM, WFAN.
I could go into a more in depth preview, but I just typed one up on my blog so I'll be lame and re-use it here. (http://inlouwetrust.blogspot.com/2006/12/game-devils-washington-1-of-4.html) Sorry. I will, however, offer some questions to consider prior to the game:
PRE-GAME QUESTIONS:
1. How will Sergei Brylin deal with Alexander Ovechkin tonight? Should Julien roll the dice and take a chance by switching Jay Pandolfo to play on the off-wing so he can cover Ovechkin?
2. Apparantly, Brent Johnson is starting in net for Washington. Given the Devils' troubles with G. Backup, approximately how frustrating will he be tonight? Enough for a win? Enough for a shutout? Keep in mind the Capitals are dead last in the average shots allowed per game (35.3/game) and Washington's #1 d-man is Brian Pothier.
3. The Buzzcocks' Steve Diggle once sang about the Harmony in his Head. What do you think is playing in Paul Martins' mind? My guess is that he should change it to "You're The Best" by Joe Esposito. The guy, as we all know, isn't doing that well this season on defense. I personally think he just needs some confidence so if/when he does make a mistake, it doesn't lead to so many more and bring down his game as a whole.
4. Cam Janssen made the trip with the Devils to DC, apparantly and will apparantly also travel with them to Atlanta. Does Cam play tonight? Does he play against Atlanta tomorrow? If so, how many poor saps do you think will get the Hammer?
GO DEVILS!
Colin Whites Eye 12-22-2006, 02:17 PM lets get the job done boys!
David Puddy 12-22-2006, 02:18 PM PRE-GAME QUESTIONS:
1. How will Sergei Brylin deal with Alexander Ovechkin tonight? Should Julien roll the dice and take a chance by switching Jay Pandolfo to play on the off-wing so he can cover Ovechkin?
GO DEVILS!That wouldn't be a bad idea. Pandolfo could shadow Ovechkin. Claude Julien could also switch Brylin and Langenbrunner just for this game.
It will be more difficult to get the Madden unit out there against Ovechkin on the road, but it shouldn't be impossible.
dpedan2 12-22-2006, 03:04 PM We sould try to stay off the power play too!
TaiMaiShu 12-22-2006, 03:30 PM Doesn't Ovechkin play LW?
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 03:37 PM Apparently, the Caps fans are going to wear sunglasses in response to Marty not being happy about Ovy's tinted visor.
Easton 12-22-2006, 03:46 PM Apparently, the Caps fans are going to wear sunglasses in response to Marty not being happy about Ovy's tinted visor.
Hahaha. Can't wait to see it on tv! I'm sure Marty would have a good laugh about it as well.
reina33 12-22-2006, 07:18 PM Against a very young, up and coming Washington team. I am excited to see Ovechkin for the 1st time this year. No more SHG please!! Let's go Devils!!!
The Caps may not have many fans, but the ones that do show up to games manage to have a good time. Let's hope we don't give up more than 30 shots tonight.
LETS GO DEVILS
David Puddy 12-22-2006, 08:15 PM Doesn't Ovechkin play LW?Yes. A left wing would line up with the other teams right wing, so Jay Pandolfo, the Devils LW, would line up with the Capitals RW, not Ovechkin.

David Puddy 12-22-2006, 08:21 PM We sould try to stay off the power play too!Why do you say that? Because the Devils have given up 8 short-handed goals? The Devils have scored 32 goals on the power play, so that's still +24.
Feed Me A Stray Cat 12-22-2006, 08:37 PM I'm sorry, Hale stinks.
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 08:44 PM Caps fans were really loud the whole period. I've watched a number of their games this season and they seem to be more into this game then usual. First penalty of the game on Oduya was pretty marginal.
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 09:02 PM No discipline tonight......we've really been losing it.
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 09:07 PM Zajac never quit. Third time was the charm.
The Mad Crapper 12-22-2006, 09:13 PM Lookie there...a PP goal because of a penalty that Cam Janssen drew. Hmmmmm....another reason why I keep preaching that this Devils team needs him to play. :yo:
Thank You Cam!!!
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 09:13 PM Now that was wild.
Feed Me A Stray Cat 12-22-2006, 09:14 PM That last flurry was a direct result of Hale turning the puck over in his own zone. :shakehead

Not only that, but the hitting is starting to pickup by the Cap as well.

He's not looking so good tonight for sure. Caps tied it up.
haakon84 12-22-2006, 09:18 PM too cautious at even strength, this team needs to show the same hunger they show on the pp.
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 09:19 PM What's wrong with Gionta? Brylin has taken his spot on the top line.

Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 09:31 PM Lukowich with the go ahead goal from the left point.
Elias deflects the point shot from in front to make it 2-1 NJ.
im in toronto and im watchin the game..FINALLY a proxy works!
Open IE with no proxy
Clear Cookies etc.
Go to comcast page
Insert proxy and do not refresh
Open the stream
And remember to clear the temp files every time before trying a new proxy.....
Brooklyndevil 12-22-2006, 09:44 PM Good fast paced game so far. I don't know about anyone else, but my sound sucks. I can hardly hear Doc and Chico. Most of what I'm getting is crowd noise. Pretty annoying.
GentlemanOfLeisure 12-22-2006, 09:46 PM Another powerplay fest. How wonderful. No flow, little hitting, and plenty of phantom calls.
Good in-between periods piece on Jordan Parise and Stephen Gionta. The "ELI's" of their family's.
As for the "PEYTON's," Parise is having another great game, while Brian Gionta is still makeing one to many passes.
Captain Lou 12-22-2006, 09:46 PM Why has Elias only played 9:51 so far? He only has more minutes than the 4th line. :shakehead
Tao Jones 12-22-2006, 09:47 PM Good fast paced game so far. I don't about anyone else, but my sound sucks. I can hardly hear Doc and Chico. Most of what I'm getting is crowd noise. Pretty annoying.
Still has to be better than the creepy color guy on comcast:help:

Elias.

Actually I thought he should have passed to a wide-open Elias in the first period, instead he shot it way high and wide.

I wish the Devils would spotlight more of the players in Lowell like this. That was great listening to Jordan and Stephen.
Captain Lou 12-22-2006, 09:54 PM I wish the Devils would spotlight more of the players in Lowell like this. That was great listening to Jordan and Stephen.
They don't even spotlight their OWN players. I wish they would do that first.
Tao Jones 12-22-2006, 09:57 PM Was Gionta or Brylin on for the Lukowich/Elias goal?
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 09:59 PM Unbelievable move by Gionta.
Tao Jones 12-22-2006, 10:00 PM There's the EGG!:handclap:
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 10:02 PM Was Gionta or Brylin on for the Lukowich/Elias goal?
Gionta was.
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 10:05 PM Knee on knee hit between Peca and Vandermeer in the Leafs game. Peca took the worst of it and needed assistance leaving the ice. It was his right one this time as opposed to the left one that was injured by Tucker in 2002 playoffs. Leclaire reinjured himself making a save in the Columbus game fairly early on. I don't know if there is a nicer player in the league in terms of interviews then Pascal Leclaire.
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 10:08 PM 4-1, thank you.
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 10:08 PM Parise scores from a bad angle. Terrific shot.

It was his right one this time as opposed to the left one that was injured by Tucker in 2002 playoffs. Leclaire re injured himself making a save in the Columbus game fairly early on.
Who was also helping Peca off the ice this time.......irony.
Brooklyndevil 12-22-2006, 10:09 PM The kids look like they have their mojo back. What a shot by Parise.
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 10:13 PM ****, hope Patty's alright! Goal was given to Elias on the Luko shot.
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 10:14 PM Islanders are getting whooped pretty good by Carolina. 5-1 so far.
Brooklyndevil 12-22-2006, 10:15 PM I know many posters feel that Janssen is useless, but I feel that we're missing his hitting and fire. I want him back on the fourth line.
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 10:16 PM I know many posters feel that Janssen is useless, but I feel that we're missing his hitting and fire. I want him back on the fourth line.
actually, I think it's 50-50 based on uselessness.
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 10:18 PM Brodeur with his best save of the game on Ovechkin. Even better then the Zubrus save earlier. Cam is entertaining as all hell to watch hit and fight. Nothing like seeing him whale the tar out of someone.
borrachon 12-22-2006, 10:19 PM Brodeur with his best save of the game on Ovechkin. Even better then the Zubrus save earlier.
Because he could see his eyes?
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 10:21 PM Because he could see his eyes?
lol, or because Ovy put it right in Marty's glove, haha.
Tao Jones 12-22-2006, 10:22 PM Ok, the color guy has mellowed now that Caps are down and mentioned that Marty feels the trapezoid should be extended to a rectangle, so he can get more speed going around the net and that he has not been rifling the puck down as much because he doesn't want to get a penalty. Marty may bring it up as a member of the Competition Committee.
Might as well make some good changes as long they keep making them.
Nice save Marty!
Brooklyndevil 12-22-2006, 10:26 PM Marty with a great come-back game and two goals each from our two top lines and life is beautiful until tomorrow night starting at 7pm eastern time.
midg14* 12-22-2006, 10:27 PM First place!! Plus the rangers have played 2 more games then us.
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 10:28 PM ****......Atlanta tomorrow, that sucks.
Tao Jones 12-22-2006, 10:29 PM Marty with a great come-back game and two goals each from our two top lines and life is beautiful until tomorrow night starting at 7pm eastern time.
Would like to beat the Thrashers tomorrow night, but can't say I don't mind the possibility of weird geographical re-alignment sending them to the Western Conference.
Although being in the same division with Carolina doesn't thrill me either.
Brooklyndevil 12-22-2006, 10:33 PM ****......Atlanta tomorrow, that sucks.
It would nice for the Devils to finally win one against Atlanta. I don't like that team or their coach at all. There sneaky dirty.
elias026 12-22-2006, 10:33 PM I know many posters feel that Janssen is useless, but I feel that we're missing his hitting and fire. I want him back on the fourth line.
well he playd in the first 2 periods, then i dont no y he didnt play anymore:dunno:
Unthinkable 12-22-2006, 10:33 PM Hitchcock looking pretty good as coach after being dismissed by the Flyers. Bobby Clarke going back to Philadelphia after firing himself makes it even sweeter for Devils fans.
MissionHockey 12-22-2006, 10:36 PM Elias and Parise had good games. Parise has a nasty shot that was wired short side. Hope to see more of that. Brodeur bounced back from a sub-par game, and Ovechkin was held pointless. Can't complain about that game.
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 10:38 PM It would nice for the Devils to finally win one against Atlanta. I don't like that team or their coach at all. There sneaky dirty.
We were really good against them for so long, including beating them 9-0 in Atlanta Patty undressed Damien Rhodes big time in a penalty shot, this was in 2001. Then they became really good and started kicking our *****, and it's annoying, we can't beat Hartley coached teams.
Tao Jones 12-22-2006, 10:43 PM Hitchcock looking pretty good as coach after being dismissed by the Flyers. Bobby Clarke going back to Philadelphia after firing himself makes it even sweeter for Devils fans.
We would face Hitch again more often under the new re-alignment proposal. I can't see Lou or other Atlantic Division teams voting for more frequent road trips below the Mason-Dixon line, with the possible exception of Pittsburgh. That's only 4 of 11 needed to block the proposal.

Well, tomorrow night would be a good time to start especially after Tuesday night's loss, a game the Devs should have won.
Brooklyndevil 12-22-2006, 10:48 PM Although, Gomez killed some power-play momentum with some reckless passing, I thought he was flying tonight. That's the Gomez I love to watch.
GentlemanOfLeisure 12-22-2006, 11:05 PM ****......Atlanta tomorrow, that sucks.
Tomorrow, Oduya needs to break his stick over Hossa's wrist this time around.
Devilsfanatic 12-22-2006, 11:37 PM Tomorrow, Oduya needs to break his stick over Hossa's wrist this time around.
Hossa sucks, he's a whiny *******, remember his crying after he was robbed by Brodeur in 03 about 2 minutes before Friesen buried the Sens
Blackjack 12-23-2006, 01:24 AM Caps fans were really loud the whole period. I've watched a number of their games this season and they seem to be more into this game then usual. First penalty of the game on Oduya was pretty marginal.
Marginal is one way to put it. Total ******** is another. The forward was trying to lift Oduya's stick, and Jonny proved too strong. Is he supposed to just let his stick be lifted anytime another player gets their stick under his? If anything it should have been an obstruction call on the foward, though I would disagree with that too.
One of the worst calls I've ever seen.
fIREnIcE 12-23-2006, 01:58 AM We were really good against them for so long, including beating them 9-0 in Atlanta Patty undressed Damien Rhodes big time in a penalty shot, this was in 2001. Damien Rhodes, the only guy that couldnt undress him was himself(no disrespect to patty). In my Beer league we refer to every bad goalie as Damien:sarcasm: ....yes but it is true they have our number. weve been playing pretty solid...I think we could take em.
Devilsfanatic 12-23-2006, 02:10 AM Damien Rhodes, the only guy that couldnt undress him was himself(no disrespect to patty). In my Beer league we refer to every bad goalie as Damien:sarcasm: ....yes but it is true they have our number. weve been playing pretty solid...I think we could take em.
It was a pretty kick *** move though, I don't know why Patty doesn't use it in the shootout, he definitely would deke a lot goalies out of their pants with it.
DevFan-RU- 12-23-2006, 02:44 AM The key to defeating Atlanta is to play a conservative powerplay... and prevent Hossa from getting breakaways...
Muttley 12-23-2006, 02:59 AM The key to defeating Atlanta is to play a conservative powerplay... and prevent Hossa from getting breakaways...
...even strength & especially when shorthanded....:banghead:
CapitalsCup2010 12-23-2006, 04:09 AM Nice win for your boys. Marty was on and two sick goals by Gionta and Parise.
Congrats.
vadvlfan 12-23-2006, 09:02 AM Hitchcock looking pretty good as coach after being dismissed by the Flyers. Bobby Clarke going back to Philadelphia after firing himself makes it even sweeter for Devils fans.
I don't think anyone realized the flyers would be this bad. I thought the 2 trades (york/zhitnik) was clarkesque to say the least. they're hoping rathje retires altogether. unfortunatly for them, when the team is stinkin up the joint, no one on the team looks "attractive" to anyone to be part of a trade to improve. trouble is , after watching them, I don't however see any sidney crosby's coming out of their roster or farm system. I do think stevens is/will be a good coach.
brodeurfanatic 12-23-2006, 10:50 AM anybody got a vid of the brodeur save on OA with replays from different angles?
Thanks.
DevilFisch 12-23-2006, 02:23 PM Looked like I missed a good one, though it sucks that Elias may be out for a bit.
Next time: I'll put in a tape!
