Lets redo the PP lines

I noticed that Elias likes to move around on the far boards, and often floats to the point. I think it might be worthwile to play him on the point on the first unit and go all out. Promote Parise to first PP unit, Since Gionta and Gomer have chemistry with both.

Parise - Gomez - Gionta
Rafalski - Elias

Next, put Langs on the point. Keep Zajac and Bylin on this unit. Put Rupp on this line. He is always used in a defensive role, and giving him more offensive ice time would help him. Plus, we need a new face. He has been impressive this year, but has struggled offensively. His big frame could help screen the goalie and collect garbage goals. Put Oduya on the point to keep Martin and White far away. Langenbrunner is obviously the biggest threat here, but if the other teams focus on him too much, that opens the ice up for Zajac and Brylin.

Brylin - Zajac - Rupp
Oduya - Langenbrunner

I know the second unit has much less firepower than the first, but it works none the less. Zajac and Brylin have both been playing well this year. And more ice time for Rupp leads to less ice time for other players. I think that having so much talent on the first line should encourage them to carry it in, instead of those lazy dump ins.

What do you think?

I think we have the 8th ranked PP in the NHL, so I say leave it as it is.

I agree with the last two posts; all the Devils need to work on is possession of the puck, consistency on the PP, and - sadly - backchecking.

A better question would be how do we have the 8th ranked PP if we've only scored 86 goals? The team needs a lot of work at even strength apparently.

what does it matter how many goals we have altogether for us to be 8th on the pp?

I'm not sure what the numbers are, but I would think that the team is probably in the minus category for even strength goals. Even with a strong PP we only have 86 goals, thats what I mean. Hell, the Devils only have two players in the plus category, and they play much softer minutes than the core players.

Go to the stats page on NHL.com and look up 'Goals For' and 'Goals Against' in the Team Comparison Reports. Make sure your children aren't in the room when you look these stats up because it's pretty gruesome.

We're tied for 25th in the league with 48 even strength goals, which is actually a bit of an improvement. That's out of a total 82 goals, not counting the four shoot-out "goals".

For more upbeat news, Ottawa actually leads the league in giving up shorties while on the PP, with eight. We should start a support group with the Sens fans.
