I actually like your calls here,at least as much as d-men go.I just like what JJ brings to the table here as far as skill/nastiness goes.Eventhough some guys may end up being more smooth or pretty.........................if the U.S ends up winning the whole thing he'll be a bigger part of it then most .You have to to be smart, tough and skilled.
He's got that combo.................Take him down, and it sure helps your team take them all down.
I want us to focus on him, takes moxie.....................but that's normal.

If Laakso play well enough to even be considered, I would be happy as hell. I doubt his chances, but he has the talent to overshadow all those first round picks in a short tournament like this (probably not in the long run).
But like I said: I doubt it.

Panopticon 12-21-2006, 06:59 AM I'm sort of surprised by the lack of faith people have for Bourdon... He was in the all-star team last year, wasn't he?
On top of that, he now has a little NHL experience as does Letang who I think he's paired up with...
Patric Berglund could be a big upset and have potential to, when everything is said and done, be mentioned as a MVP.
He is the type of player who either owns the ice completly or don't make all that much noise.

Yeah, I know...
I thought of Bourdon, but...right now I would choose Marc Staal or Erik (or Jack Johnson) before Bourdon, just my opinion or my instinct...Marc Staal for Best DEFENSIVE defenseman of WJC and Erik Johnson for BEST Offensive/Defensive defenseman of WJC...
That said, he should have a great tournament, and...I'd take Bourdon anyday to play for the HABS...
I know we're not talking about NHL or the HABS, but just felt like throwing these thoughts around for this thread...;):innocent:

Bourdon is an excellent player. But I added M. Staal to my list, just because he and Parent were so dominating last year.
ReLyT 12-21-2006, 11:20 AM Does anyone think Sergei Kostitsyn from Belarus could really make some noise in this tournament or is his team too bad for him to really shine when he scores all their goals but they lose 4-2 each game?

Sergei (I almost forgot about him!) should be the top point producer for Belarus, but...the team is not supposed to go far (you never know:), but...).
It's too bad he isn't playing for Russia! (better depth than Belarus, better for Sergei & Russia...), but, it's also better for CANADA (Russia won't be as strong without Sergei!).
That said, Sergei should average (I hope!) 1 or 1,5 pts (or more!) per game
(in 5-6-7 games??)...he has a tremendous shot (love it!), and good skating/speed, as well as good energy/somewhat gritty (from what I know! you must know more since you're from London, Ontario, assuming you go to Knights' games...!!!).

Panopticon 12-22-2006, 03:17 AM Here's an article on this (in Finnish though): http://www.jatkoaika.com/maajoukkue.php?sivu=kolumnit&id=5576
I know it's in Finnish, and I don't have the time to translate it now (I'm at work), but everyone can read the names at least and if you want something translated I'm sure someone can help.
"Haastaja" means "challenger" so that could be of some help as well.
ReLyT 12-24-2006, 03:14 AM I love watching Sergei "Billy" Kostitsyn with my Knights season tickets... he has a passion for the game that is just unreal. Last year he was pretty much the reason Belarus won... he led the 'b' tournament in points and penalty minutes and was tournament mvp!

That's great to hear:). Thanks for info.
In your opinion, what is his UPSIDE for the NHL??
Very good top 6 winger?
Good top 6 winger?
Average top 6 winger?
Who is the most recent Knight who is dong well in the NHL? Is it Corey Perry?

I think that he's a bit overrated by russians at this time. He's to young to dominate WJC.
And Russian team doesn't seem to be a powerhouse this year, so it would be hard fo Cherepanov to be one of the best players.
I know about his stats, but he wouldn't have his Avangard teammates at WJC.

Well, Cherepanov has more points than Ovechkin and Malkin at his age.. Can't say that Cherepanov's partners are better than Ovechkin's and Malkin's..

OK maybe he's very good vor his age, but this is a tournament U 20 not U 18. And comparing with older players his stats doesnt look exeptional.
So maybe he would be top forward next year or even in 2009, but not this time i think.

What in the world do you mean when you say "not exceptional". Comparing his stats to any other player, including the 19 year olds, on the Russian roster is like comparing Ovechkin's stats to those of Wade Belak. While Cherepanov may not be a top forward at this WJC, considering he is a 2nd/3rd line player in the RSL; his stats are quite exceptional for a player of any age. :amazed:

He is def a first rounder. Will he go in the first with all this political stuff with Russia? who knows?
