Penner has been pretty hot lately

How hot?

Well after tonights game he is now 3rd in rookie scoring and 5 points behind Kopitar for 2nd.

1 EVGENI MALKIN C PIT 28 16 16 32
2 ANZE KOPITAR C LAK 34 8 20 28
3 DUSTIN PENNER R ANA 35 13 8 23
4 PAUL STASTNY C COL 33 8 14 22
5 WOJTEK WOLSKI L COL 32 8 13 21
6 MATTHEW CARLE D SJS 34 3 16 19
7 TRAVIS ZAJAC C NJD 30 6 10 16
8 ALEXANDER RADULOV R NSH 20 10 3 13
9 G. LATENDRESSE L MTL 32 7 6 13
10 IAN WHITE D TOR 34 2 11 13

I always knew he could do it but I must admit its been a pleasant surprise to watch him rise in the standings over time.

I'm very happy for him. I don't think he'll win the Calder, but even being up there is a huge accomplishment for the young power forward.

Great job! :yo:

Way to go Big Pen! (I think Ahlers said that was his nickname once)

I love Penner and he's had a good rookie year to this point. Hopefully it continues for many successful years.

That said, his only chance to win the Calder is if Malkin, Kopitar and maybe a few others have their season implode on them.

You can't help but feel his playmaking is being under utilized he's on pace to score 30 goals but only about 20 assists and we saw in the playoffs he is a good playmaker. I'd love to get a Tucker to play on that line, he'd compliment Marchant and Penner well.

Great story about Penner on anaheimducks.com...

And Penner knows that although he’s made strides at this level, there is still room for improvement. "It’s like those video games when they have you rated for agility or endurance or strength," Penner says. "I’m just trying to bring everything up to the highest level possible, whether it’s my skating or my shot or moving with the puck."

That reminds me of this letter written by the lowest rated player in Madden 07 to John Madden (http://urbangrounds.com/2006/10/17/ethan-albright/). It's not a real letter, but it's hilarious. Warning: Includes bad language that shouldn't be read by impressionable youth.

:biglaugh: that was awesome thanks!!! everyone at work thinks thats HILARIOUS!!!

my fav's:
It’s also pretty wonderful that my awareness rating was 59. You make it sound like I wake up in the morning, helplessly **** and **** myself, then lose three of my teeth before I discover that I am trying to eat a rock for breakfast.

I have received the impression that you feel that I am lacking in the agility category. I should consider a walk through my living room where I don’t crash through a wall or kick over furniture a resounding success. My agility rating on your game is 33. It makes it sound like I just topple over if I start walking too fast. Ted Washington is rated a 40 in agility. He is listed at 365 pounds. If Ted Washington tied a white lady up and made her wear a metal bikini, he’d look just like Jabba the Hut.

I love the part about giving him a 98 because he'd never give him a 99 in any category.

Boy, I sure sidetracked this thread.

Dustin Penner rulz!

Would love to see that, but don't they not like to give it to rookies who have made previous apearences in the nhl, ie Big Pens hat trick vs LA last year.
