Some may recall an article on NHL.com about the Devils leading the division while having less Goals For than Goals Against. I'm sure it was just another ploy for anti-devils to shake their heads and say, "How typical." All defense no offense, blah blah blah.
Well, it seems the tables have turned. At the time of this post, the Rangers are leading the division (not for long, mind you), while having 107GF and 109GA. What are we to say about this? How typical, all offense and no defense? Will the league even make a mention of this stat, which they so eagerly used against the devils? :dunno:

That doesn't really tell the whole truth, because the Rangers 107 GF is also tied for 4th most in the Eastern Conference while the Devils 83 GF is 2nd last. You can have teams with more GA then GF but that doesnt mean they aren't offensive.

In the end, the only column that matters in the stats is the points column.

Yes, thus the first sentence in my post.
Either way, I'm not saying the Rangers have a scoring problem. It's kinda hard to make that claim with guys like Jagr and Shanahan being a couple of the leagues top scorers.
What I'm trying to get across is that when the Devils are leading the division with more GA than GF, an article goes up and brings up a discussion on all the major boards. When the Rangers are in the same situation, alls I hear are the crickets chirping.
Life just aint fair! :shakehead

The reason why no one is reporting on the Rangers situation is that they don't have a scoring problem, they have a keeping the puck out of their own net problem - and more specifically a 15 goals against in the last two games problem.
The media won't make as much an issue about the Rangers because they are scoring goals and offence seems to be the only thing that matters in the "New NHL". The Devils get ripped on because no one can respect a defensive style of play, instead just labelling it as boring.
As much as I can't stand NYR, I don't think it is reasonable to start talking about their negative GF/GA immediately after having two bad games. It isn't really reflective on their season as a whole.

Yeah, prior to the last 2 game meltdowns where they were outscored 15-3 they were 104GF-94GA.
