Why Hate the Flames?
- Jarome Iginla has been on fire... literally.
- They have two solid brothers on defence since Richie Regehr, Robyn's brother, was called up from the AHL's Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights.
- Dion Phaneuf has been putting up points on a consistent basis.
Things to Look Out For
- This game will be a battle of the goaltenders. Jean-Sebastien Giguere has played in all but six of the Ducks' games this season while Miikka Kiprusoff has played in all but two of the Flames' contests.
- Hopefully, Anaheim's day of rest from their long road trip helped. Fatigue could have played a huge factor in their 4-3 loss to San Jose on Sunday.
- Teemu Selanne should get at least two points tonight. It will be great compensation for being held off of the scoresheet against the Sharks.
It should be a great game!
Enjoy!
:handclap:
Go Ducks Go!
Pepper 12-18-2006, 01:17 PM Thornton-McCarty is the most probable fight.
Kevin Forbes 12-18-2006, 01:20 PM I'm not sure if this is regularly posted in either flavour of Game Day Threads, but a speck of information I wouldn't mind seeing is either a "last game" or "streak" for both teams. So something along the lines of the Ducks are unbeaten in their last 10 games, or the Flames are coming off a dominating 6-2 win over the Panthers.
Also maybe a note about the season series to date.

I just like useful information over "Reasons to Hate them'. Hell, even the fact that the Ducks were shut out by the Flames would be a good reason to 'Hate them'. Or maybe the fact that the Ducks beat them with their fourth-stringer Mike Wall, that's a good reason to feel confident about the game.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess, but just a suggestion.

I think you mean 6-3 over the Coyotes, but here's some "useful" (?) nonsense:
Calgary has the second-biggest differential between their home record (12-3-0, .800) and their road record (4-8-3, .367); only Minnesota is a bigger "homer" (.781 at home, .281 on the road).
Tonight's game will feature the two highest scorers in the western conference, Selanne and Iginla.
Last fun note: the Flames have yet to score a goal this year against J.S. Giguere, while the Ducks have yet to score a goal this year against Miikka Kiprusoff.

Selanne with 1,000 pts
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 09:45 PM Great pregame interview with David McNab. My favorite part is he says there is one undrafted college player he thinks is "fabulous". Of course he wouldn't reveal the name.

Dang it McNabb...who is that player! Did he say if he wanted to sign him or not?

Dang it McNabb...who is that player! Did he say if he wanted to sign him or not?
No, but his secrecy pretty much implied he wanted to grab him. He basically said there are several NHL quality undrafted college players, but one guy in particular is "fabulous". He also said that they have a lot more credibility with college players right now because they regularly start 4 undrafted collegiates (Penner, Kunitz, McDonald, Shannon) basically telling them, "If we sign you, you will play some day".

Hmm, that is a good point. That makes a lot of sense.
Go McNabb! :)
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 10:12 PM I was thinking tonight would be a 2-1 snoozefest, but the Flames are missing 3 of their defensemen (Hamrlik, Warrener and Zyuzin). So, maybe the Ducks can light up Kipper.
That first goal was...pretty terrible.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 10:14 PM Ouch, quick one for Calgary.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 10:19 PM That was a legitimate goaltender interference call, but they do need to look at that rule this offseason to limit how far in front of the crease the goalie can be for it to be interference.
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-18-2006, 10:29 PM We take way too many penalties. Lame.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 10:29 PM Uh oh, they said that Bryz is probably going to be out awhile, but they didn't give a whole lot of details beyond that.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 10:31 PM Wow, lucky whistle there. Don't know why they blew it so quick.
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-18-2006, 10:32 PM Wow.
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-18-2006, 10:36 PM This is poo. Where did our forecheck go?
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-18-2006, 10:41 PM Yay 4 penalties.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 10:44 PM Nifty passing on that goal. Actually, it looked like Kunitz stole the puck from Selanne. Yup, he pretty much did. LOL.
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-18-2006, 10:45 PM Woot!
Mac.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 10:45 PM 1-1 after 1. I'll take it. Too many penalties that period though.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 12-18-2006, 10:56 PM Anyone else have the Flames feed? Wow, everyone talks about how Hazy is a huge homer, but these guys are no better. For the most part, all they've done is ***** about the ice and things that have gone against the Flames. In fact, they won't shut up about the ice. Every freaking minute they mention how the ice is so bad and now it's only worse because it's been skated on more.
Jerky Leclerc 12-18-2006, 10:58 PM If you haven't found it yet, the game tonight is shown on HD.

The ice IS bad. It looks like they decided to play with a Superball tonight instead of a puck.

Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 11:07 PM If you haven't found it yet, the game tonight is shown on HD.
Sweet, thanks for the heads up. InHD2 for anyone that gets it.
lux_interior 12-18-2006, 11:07 PM LOL. Wouldn't that have been a ***** if Calgary had scored on a play where the puck went into the zone off the refs skate?
Dogbert 12-18-2006, 11:08 PM Get the hell over it though.
I used to mute Millions and turn on the Fan 960, where an infinitely-better play-by-play man - and a Hall-of-Famer - calls the game. Perhaps you should do the same, lest your brain be irreparably damaged by Dinguses 1 and 2 on Sportsnet.
lux_interior 12-18-2006, 11:10 PM Get the hell over it though.
People from "traditional markets" generally complain about: boring style of play, bad ice, poor attendance. He can't complain about boring play because the Flames do that, so he just works his way down the list.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 11:11 PM LMAO. The Zero Line. A freaking NHL line with no goals among them? That is sad this late in the season.
Dogbert 12-18-2006, 11:14 PM LMAO. The Zero Line. A freaking NHL line with no goals among them? That is sad this late in the season.
We call it the "Please, For The Love Of All That Is Holy, Get The Heck Off The Ice Line." It hasn't caught on with the PBP guys, mainly because their shift is done by the time the announcer is done saying it.
stalbert1 12-18-2006, 11:16 PM Get the hell over it though.
Yeah no kidding - the ice is slushy? Well if it is then it favors the team with the least amount of skill and speed which is the Flames.
Lame announcers, make Canadians seem like dumb homers..:(
Lunatik 12-18-2006, 11:19 PM in regards to the ice... please keep in mind that these announcers are used to arena's where hockey is the primary event... especially saddledome ice as Calgary also has a junior hockey team sharing their arena
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 11:20 PM LOL, no HD camera in the penalty box.
Dogbert 12-18-2006, 11:20 PM O'Donnell = two minutes for nudging, Flames powerplay.
lux_interior 12-18-2006, 11:23 PM Yeah we're 4 for 4 on the PK, but we can't keep giving them chances.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 11:24 PM Could we get a PP please? Just one before the end of the 2nd.
lux_interior 12-18-2006, 11:24 PM No but apparently the Flames can.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 11:25 PM Oh ****, Selanne gets an unsportsmanlike for *****ing to refs about the PP being 4-0 in favor of Calgary after that no-call.
lux_interior 12-18-2006, 11:32 PM lol. Now the ref is getting in the way of shots too.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 11:33 PM lol. Now the ref is getting in the way of shots too.
The refs hate us tonight...wait maybe not, nice! PP #1. And that's the way it should be. Call the diving ONLY.
Danny__K 12-18-2006, 11:34 PM In fairness the ice looks freaking brutal. however. that might be saving the flames tonight. It's up to the ice and kipper cause it pretty ugly right now for the flames.
Snap Wilson 12-18-2006, 11:37 PM Good looking power play, now that we got to see it.
Snap Wilson 12-18-2006, 11:37 PM And yes, our ice is atrocious. Something really needs to be done about it.
Dogbert 12-18-2006, 11:38 PM Why are the Ducks directing the puck towards the goal when on the powerplay? I'm a Flames fan, and am thus unfamiliar with this course of action.
stalbert1 12-18-2006, 11:40 PM And yes, our ice is atrocious. Something really needs to be done about it.
Yep, lets play all of our home games in the Saddledome. The ice there is perfect which is why the Flames have put together such a highly skilled squad..:sarcasm:
Danny__K 12-18-2006, 11:41 PM Why are the Ducks directing the puck towards the goal when on the powerplay? I'm a Flames fan, and am thus unfamiliar with this course of action.
i know i thought you were supposed to pound the puck into the defenders shin pads or 5 feet wide Phaneuf style.
McDonald19 12-18-2006, 11:41 PM alright guys lets move on from the ice quality topic...
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 11:42 PM Good looking power play, now that we got to see it.

Yep, lets discuss why Parros is playing alongside Getzlaf and Perry tonite.
Jerky Leclerc 12-18-2006, 11:45 PM Yep, lets discuss why Parros is playing alongside Getzlaf and Perry tonite.
Because Shannon is too small for Calgary and Green left his skates at home in the closet.
Davey Duck 12-18-2006, 11:47 PM Yep, lets discuss why Parros is playing alongside Getzlaf and Perry tonite.
Yeah, we already have Beauchemin playing in case we need him to whoop some more Calgary ***.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 12-18-2006, 11:48 PM The ice IS bad. It looks like they decided to play with a Superball tonight instead of a puck.
Oh, I know it's bad. But Millions mentions it every freaking minute. I was surprised he didn't blame the Ducks' goal soley on the ice.
I do like the radio guys, though. But, yeah, these guys suck.
stalbert1 12-18-2006, 11:48 PM Because Shannon is too small for Calgary and Green left his skates at home in the closet.
You forgot to mention THE ICE - its would affect Shannon more than Parros.
Green could just use his snowshoes!:handclap:

That made me laugh.
lux_interior 12-18-2006, 11:52 PM And yes, our ice is atrocious. Something really needs to be done about it.
There's only so much that can be done. We live in a warm, relatively humid environment in an area (arena) that has a lot of events going on in it.
lux_interior 12-18-2006, 11:57 PM So Lombardi demos Giguere...no call.
Flames have 10 guys on the ice...no call.
What gives?

PIMPTACULAR!!!
McDonald19 12-18-2006, 11:59 PM Yep, lets discuss why Parros is playing alongside Getzlaf and Perry tonite.
Shannon plays against soft teams.
Parros plays against physical teams.
Thats Carlyle's plan for the time being.

Davey Duck 12-19-2006, 12:04 AM Kipper needs to check for holes in his jersey. Pennnnnnner!
McDonald19 12-19-2006, 12:06 AM Giguere assisted on the goal.
Davey Duck 12-19-2006, 12:06 AM Did I hear Giguere assist? That gives him more points than Parros on the year.

1. They got a lot closer than the "built for the playoffs" Flames.
2. Yes Anaheim did.
3. It doesn't really matter, because unlike in Calgary there's things to do in SoCal other than hockey.
lux_interior 12-19-2006, 12:30 AM Ha Ha. Perry scores on the empty net. 4-1 suckas.
Davey Duck 12-19-2006, 12:30 AM Perry with a sweeeeeet empty netter. I thought there was no way in hell he could get that in.

Davey Duck 12-19-2006, 12:31 AM Pure ownage in this game. The difference in the PP's in the first two periods was the only thing keeping it close for awhile.

Davey Duck 12-19-2006, 12:35 AM for the second period anyways, the flames had a pretty good first regardless of penaltys. good game ducks.
Yeah, first was the Flames best period, but overall it was pretty even. After that, the Ducks took over.
Dogbert 12-19-2006, 12:37 AM I'm not gonna lose any sleep over this one. The Ducks are the best team in the league, and might just be considered one of the best single-season teams of all time once it's all said and done. I've never seen a team that had absolutely no weaknesses until now.
Good game.
Krieger99 12-19-2006, 12:37 AM The Flames played very bad for most of the game, but I guess that can be expected with only 3 regular defensemen in the lineup. After the Regehr fight, they played exactly like they did in the 2004 playoffs, which was nice to see. Also nice to see the cockiness of the Ducks fans, as it may come back to bite them in the *** sometime.

When your team is winning 72% of their games and getting points in 89%, it's hard not to be cocky about your team's chances every night.

Krieger99 12-19-2006, 12:45 AM Who was that Flames d-man going after the puck in Perry's empty-netter? What a rookie play.
Mark Giordano, I think. He's the Flames 7th defenseman.

Yeah, except we're not the 2005-06 Flames.
soya_sauce_chicken 12-19-2006, 01:11 AM all i know is when i got home to watch the game i had to remind myself that we were playing at home..
i turned the tv and saw that Flames on their 5th PP, so i was thinking we must have at least 3... but a las, i was actually able to see our first PP towards the end of the second..
Ducksforcup 12-19-2006, 01:15 AM I thought Beauchemin had his strongest game of the year tonight. GOD also had a good game.
Good win. :)
Dogbert 12-19-2006, 01:21 AM Well... the last time we saw a team dominate the league like this was in 1995-96, when the Wings iced one of the best regular-season teams ever. That team let its work ethic slip in the playoffs, and struggled through two series against teams they should've ran over before running into a hot goalie in the Conference Finals.
The Ducks need to make sure that they keep their heads straight throughout the season, just as any powerhouse does. Their greatest opponent may be themselves.
lux_interior 12-19-2006, 01:22 AM I think some people are confusing cockiness with confidence.

There's not much separating the two. All the Ducks need to do is make sure that they don't cross the line, and they're the Cup champions.
Static 12-19-2006, 02:24 AM I loved how Iginla was treated throughout the game. He was on his *** at least 5 times, and 4 or so were directly from Beauchemin, who played strong. The gameplan was obviously to be very physical on Iginla and it worked well. I could tell he was frustrated when he was jawing at Beauch at the end of the game.
Lyons71 12-19-2006, 03:29 AM Out hit, out shoot, out work, out score.
Ducks hockey in a jar.

Great game to go to. Thanks goes to the top line for getting things going. Calgary with any type of lead is dangerous...
hockeyprincess 12-19-2006, 02:44 PM That was outstanding!!!! When I saw that Calgary had that early 1-0 lead, I was so angry. Then it was tied 1-1, and I yelled... "Hey Ducks, get three unanswered goals!!!" And they did!! :snide:
Can you believe that Anaheim remains the only team in the NHL to not have a shorthanded goal scored against them? OMG!!! We rock!!!
I love this team!!!
Next contest: tomorrow against the Dallas Stars!
A pair of 1988 first-round NHL Entry Draft picks square off.
first overall, Mike Modano -- tenth overall, Teemu Selanne.

They should have given up at least one to SJ.
Davey Duck 12-19-2006, 04:01 PM Have you guys noticed the roll the Ducks are on right now?
13-2-1 for 27 out of 32 points.
As a comparison, the Duck's unbeaten in regulation streak to start the season was:
12-0-4 for 28 out of 32 points.
Sweet.
Davey Duck 12-19-2006, 08:26 PM Oh, and for the time being the Ducks officially have the most goals in the league (although in 4 more games than Buffalo).
Duckstudd269 12-20-2006, 12:39 AM Did I hear Giguere assist? That gives him more points than Parros on the year.
quickly catching Shannon as well.
