Was that Marc-Andre Fleury? He even had those brilliant looking pads back in 04. He was barley even a member of the Pengs.

Dissapointing.:banghead:

What happened? Did Canada blow a big lead late or something? I wasn;t following prospects at the time, and knew nothing of the WJCs

the US were trailing 3-1 after the 2nd period....ended up winning 4-3.

Near the end of the game Fleury went to clear the puck infront of his net, it hit Braydon Coburn and went in.

US won the gold medal

Yeah, in Halifax. Canada was up 2-1 going into the third and lost 3-2. Fleury was in net for that as well.

hmm, not sure, possibly.

But I'll never forget that game :shakehead

I remember I had a hockey game that night in the States (about an hour and a half from me) and when the other team was coming onto the ice from the dressing room they started chanting 4-3! 4-3!

Fleury gets blamed for it - but USA played hard that game and took it over in the third... Montoya did enough to keep his boys in too.

Fleury tried to clear the puck but it hit Coburn and in... tough break... In hind sight he should've covered it... but the whole game can't be blamed on him.

Me too. That game was robbery. The US played well (especially O'Sullivan and Montoya), but Canada should've won, as they subsequently and convincingly did in the following years.

I'd agree with this if hockey games were 2 periods instead of 3 but we all know they are'nt.The U.S team came out loose in the 3rd and took the play to us and Canada did'nt respond well so they lost the game.Fleury struggled all tournament but when your goaltender is subpar it means only one thing.....................it signals a weakness on YOUR team that can be exposed and it's up to your team to correct it.Goaltending is so critical and it isn't any other teams fault if your goaltending does'nt cut the mustard and theirs does.

That's hockey and that's sports.

You're one of the few on this board that ever gives the US credit for the win rather than the stupid "Oh, Fleury LET you win" or something of the sort that gets said around here so often.

The US came to play the in the third after sleeping most of the game and just straight up took it to Canada.

The Problem with that logic is that the US only played for 1 period.

But that's hockey,it's 3 periods not 2.Just like a baseball game is 9 innings not 7.Would'nt it be great if you could just call the game off once you've got a lead after the second but that's not how the game is played and it would be a silly idea to say you won a hockey game on 2 periods of work alone because the game goes 3.Hey,if it worked that way Canada would have been on the losing side of plenty of games over the years, what if the final game of the1987 Canada cup was wrapped up after a period and a half? Well, let's go home now, game over after 30 minutes because we're up by 3 goals!! But no,the game is 3 periods and they used that time to come back and win.

the 2 periods = a win theory just does'nt make any sense. Not for us and not for anybody.

Like i said..........that's hockey and that's sports.

They won the game and deserved to win the game case closed.

it hurt like hell for me and initially you want( i was no different) to "blame" it on something but once you get your head together and accept facts as they are you fess up and admit those facts no matter how painful.................they got beat by a better team on that day.

it may havev even had a silver lining in that i think it played a role in us being able to stay focused throughout the WHOLE tournament the next 2 years. Not focused for 40 minutes or 2 games but every game and every period. You fail to do that and good teams at this tournament will make you pay, just like in 2004 with what the U.S team did to us.

And hopefully our team this year won't forget the lesson either.Lot's of good teams ready to take that gold medal away from us this year.

This loss was worse than the previous two. I really thought that they would win. They were dominating the U.S. in the final minutes of the second period and if Canada would have scored that probably would have been it.

Canada let them back in the game and Fleury's play didn't help at all. One thing that I have never liked about Fleury is that he never can seem to back a big save in a big game at a crucial time.

What concerns me about this tournament is what MacKenize said about Team Canada how they are getting too cocky. Anyone of these teams hae the chance of beating Canada and they better stay focused or else they won't win Gold this year.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The video could really inspire the American kids. It could inspire them to take a nap. That's exactly the effect that song had on me. Lousy, lousy song. It ruins the whole thing.
