Yeah I got them switched by mistake in my formatting, I usually just take my previous one and make changes...I think the Islanders passed us to take second so the Devils are third now :(.

(The PP/PK numbers are still the Wings' though, I'll fix that tomorrow)

If the Devils win this game, I'll forgive them their poor play over the last few games. This should be good, since the Rangers got their ***** handed to them last night by Toronto (9-2! ouch!).

Agreed. The effort yesterday was pathetic. 22 total shots vs 36 (DET)...4 shots in the 3rd period. Four lazy hooking penalty (um...start skating). Not that I was surprised by the outcome. Saturday afternoon games (weekend games in general) = usually a loss.

I love Madden's pic.
They look really funny after I had to shrink them. I figured making high quality pictures smaller was better than making the thumbnails bigger. Madden had some great ones, I really had to decide between that one and one after he scored in the shootout...his enthusiasm was near Friesen levels.

I have to say I think Gomez's looks the funniest, stick a corn cob pipe in his mouth and he's a dead ringer for Popeye.

Brodeur's leg would probably have to be hanging by a single tendon for him to miss this game. I'm sure he's still sick about missing TWO Ranger games last year. Clemmensen probably wouldn't be as bad as he was against Boston. He seemed to get stronger as the game went on, the defense just gave up waaaay too many shots.

A hip strain? Like hell that'll stop Marty from playing tonight.

BTW, Lundqvist MIGHT play tonight; while lurking on the HF Rangers board, Renney wasn't sure about who to start. Though maybe some new developments came out, who knows.

Been busy with Holiday parties and shopping so I missed the Boston game, which is a rarity for the Devils to get that many penalities and give up that many shots. As for yesterday, it's just another game of many where they score one goal less then the other team. One goal or two goals a game just won't cut it.

I'll be very interested to see how they come out tonight. No excuses, both teams played yesterday. Big game for December, let's just see if the Devils come out big?

Hey Devils fans, I have come to update you on the Rangers lines tonight. They have been switched like mad.

Injuries/Other
Matt Cullen - Sprained knee - Day to day.
Michael Nylander - Flu - Day to day.
Jed Ortmeyer - Recalled down to Wolfpack again/pulmonary embolism - 3 wolfpack games.
Thomas Pock - Called down to Wolfpack - 3 wolfpack games.

Lines
Jaromir Jagr - Jason Ward - Petr Prucha
Martin Straka - Jarkko Immonen - Brendan Shanahan
Marcell Hossa - Blair Betts - Adam Hall
Ryan Hollweg - Colton Orr - ??? (Yes thats right an offenseman may get double shifted tonight, or a defenseman may play offense)

Marek Malik - Michael Rozsival
Aaron Ward - Fedor Tytin
Darius Kasparitis - Karl Rachunek

Kevin Weekes in Net.

Too top things off, that defense is still unofficial. Sandis Ozolinsh is probaly going to see some ice time tonight. Because 7 defenseman were playing tonight only to mean one defenseman will be playing on offense.

Good luck in the game tonight. May the best team win.

You guys beat us fair and square. I know I am walking into your board making excuses why we played so bad. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

Yes, before saying "I suck for making lame excuses" and "Get back to your board where you belong"

First, I want to start off by saying, you have one of the greatest goaltenders in the NHL right now, if not the best. 2nd in wins in the NHL is just brilliant. Can't forget about your first line forwards. Elias, Gomez, Gionta. That line is just great and gives your team great play.

Now for the lame excuses. Today Rangers were missing Michael Nylander, Matt Cullen and Marek Malik. Believe it or not but without them you can't call Rangers good at all. Now for Rangers lines. I blame this one on Rangers coach [Tom Renney] he switched Rangers lines like crazy tonight. Double-shifting Jagr, Putting Bozolinsh in, Jason Ward being on the first line. It was sickening to see. Can't forget about this one. The 11 games in 18 days excuse. As much as you think this isn't meaning much towards the game it is. That amount of games in 18 days is an utter mess. Think about this one for a second imagine playing that much in a professional hockey leauge against really well rested players of course you going to get your ***'s kicked. Lastly, the Ranger flu. This flu has hit at least 1 player a game in Rangers last 4 games.

I hope Rangers play Devils real soon with our whole team back in full strength. That should happen soon because I believe Rangers play you guys 5 more times.

Well earned win. You guys have some great scorers when they do score. Good job you are now one step closer to having the 1st place spot again. Here's to a close division and too future games to come!

I wouldn't call these lame excuses. This was an important game that the Devils needed and I'm glad they stepped up to the plate, but missing a 1st line center, a 2nd line center and a top 4 defenseman is inevitably going to hurt the team. It would be the equivalent of having Gomez, Zajac and Oduya out.

Inferno272

the rangers dont need any excuses other than this.

Our coach is absolutely inept at instilling any sort of discipline and accountability for moronic play.

i cant even count how many forced cross ice neutral zone passes there were, but at least a dozen where intercepted thats for sure.

As long as our coach allows our players to do this, we will continue to be a mediocre team that lives and dies with our first line, brendan shanahan, and terrific goaltending from henrik.

if all of those things dont lineup, we lose. luckily for us (or perhaps in the long term, unluckily) those 5 have been showing up for the most part, covering our flaws. but the flaws persist, win, or lose, and as a ranger fan, its sickening to watch.

Particularly when you play a team known for taking advantage of idiot plays.

*sigh* i need a vacation from watching hockey...baseball season cant start soon enough, cant wait to watch Andy Pettitte back where he belongs.

Meh, the cast of snoopy on ice could have beat us tonight, good 2 points for you guys, but i wouldnt be too thrilled about the win, id chalk it up to playing against a team who stinks right now.

I'm troubled with this as well. The guy usually mentioned as most likely to be moved to make room is Lukowich, but he's been playing some tremendous hockey lately and seems to have fit into that #5 defenseman role we have been told he thrives in.

To be honest, none of that really matters to me. It might be true, but the fact of the matter was we really needed a win and we went out and played a good enough game to get one. In the end, the two points are what matter.

And yeah, Dk, I really don't want to trade Lukowich either. I think he's a great #5 who can step up to play other roles. That said, Matvichuk isn't a #5. He's a #2 or #3 defensemen at his best and that, in the end, is more valuable than Luko's bottom pairing anchor.

Rafalski Oduya Martin
White Matvichuk Hale

Not exactly the 3 offensive 3 defensive setup we've used in the past. There's no Stevens and no Niedermayer. But it's quality.

All that said tho, having 7 defensemen of the quality we do gives us some latitude. I've been anticipating a Arnott/McKay for Nieuwendyk/Langenbrunner like trade for the last two seasons. It hasn't happened yet but I still think it will, but this time it'll involve defensemen.

No excuses tonight folks, you guys handed it to us pretty good. It was 100% deserved. I went to the game tonight and it was the first time I had a bad experience with a Devils fan. A Devil fan in Penn Station took a look at me and instead of talking **** to me, he turned to my 16 year old brother and said "Rangers suck, yea I said it, what are you gonna do? Fight me?" This guy was like 30. I know that he was probably just a cowardly **********, but I hope all you classy fans dont exept *******s like that into your fanbase.

every fan base has some bad eggs including your own, nothing you can do about except accept it and move on

in other news i thought we played really well tonight but especially our pp (not in the first however) but they did bring it up a few notches right at the end and i think ultimately that is something that we need to be contenders this year (besides stabilizing out D corps)

There's a few drunken apples in each tree. Sorry about the experience though, I know what it's like.

As for the Elias goal that was reviewed, I remember a goal that Bernie Nicholls shot through the net, and play continued. Eventually, Daneyko scored, and they went upstairs to review the goal. They saw that Nicholls' shot went through the net and put the corresponding time back on the clock, and also took away a goal from Daneyko.

The Devils got a big win last night and although they scored 6, a lot of that was due to the play of Weeks and the Rangers, which was terrible. I wouldn’t call it a dominating game by the Devils at all. However, I was impressed with our defensive coverage. I hope they come out hungry tomorrow. I'll be at the game and they owe me a win after the Buffalo loss last Tuesday.

Does anyone else think that Julien is too soft? It seems like after a loss he always states, "I thought we played well.” I don't care for the Tom Coughlin style of coaching, but can Julien show some emotions once in a while?

All I could say is if the Devils did not win last night, then this team needed a makeover.

I'm glad they whopped them, but I'm not really estatic as some people might be. They beat up a team that was plagued with illness, injuries and a team who had to fly out of Toronto less than 24 hours before the game, while NJ went across the river. It shoulda been 10-1, not 6-1. The Devs were supposed the beat the crap out of them after a 3-game losing streak. So it's ho-hum and prepare for the Thrashers.

And before any Ranger fans come on our board and blame the refs or make other lame typical excuses, your team gave up 15 goals in 2 games.

And why are some people surprised about a Let's go Devils chant at MSG?

I have to echo some of the sentiments here - obviously I loved that we won but with both Nylander and Cullen out - the fact that it was so tight for 2 periods bugs me a little. Devils still aren't sharp and are a bit lifeless sometimes as both the Rangers and Wings outhit them it looked like.

Still though, Brodeur played great, Parise and Brylin play with so much heart you gotta love them. The Egg line is playing better, Gomer is getting those legs going as he usually does around this time of year. And I have to say - I've given him alot of **** on this board - but Lukowich has been very steady and solid the last few games. Excellent work on the PK by him. :handclap:

Edit: I would also echo those sentiments about keeping Gomer in NJ. Our offense won't ever get through the neutral zone without him.

He seems a little slow to the puck on the offensive side lately. However, we have to remember that the kid always looks more concerned with the denfensive end of his game and knowing the way the Devils operate, he's probably been instructed to worry more about defense than offense.

I was at the game, i didnt mind when Devils fans stood up and cheered when their team scored. However many fans went and started fights, and acted tough after losing them. Many Devils fans were good sports last night, but many tried to be tough and started picking fights with anyone around, and there were a few times where a group of 4 Devils fans would jump a small Rangers fan, it was disgraceful. Then of course when other fans jumped in and gave them the business they tried to look tough, it was bad.

Besides that you kicked our *** on the ice and I cant say anything other then good job.

Why shouldn't an opposing teams fans stand up and cheer to support their team when they pay for their tickets just like you do.. But why? I've been to Devs/Rags games at MSG and been treated poorly due to my Rafalski jersey. I've been verbally abused by flocks of Flyers fans at the CAA. Every team has their drunks and malcontents. I have to wonder, though, why it was important to bring this up on an online messageboard devoted to the game, not devoted to that which inevitably comes with sports and alcohol.

Lol, denial? Actually, there was a "Let's go Devils" chant going. Just like games 3 & 4 of last season's 1st round playoff match, where the Devils dismantled the NYR and your fans left early like last night. We owned that place towards the end.

Who cares if it was "**** the Devils", which is typical & expected of you bitter, dinosaur blue seaters. lol, blue seasts. When you use the term "Debbies", we all know your type lol.

I think what's happening it that many NYR dinosaur fans, such as yourself, are starting to feel threatened and even offended that younger, 20-something year old Devils fans are starting to show up in increasing numbers a MSG, and are proud to wear the teams' colors. The first generation of real Devils fans has come of age, and it p***** you off: witness your cliche' ridden, long post.

Sorry, but your NYR superiority-complex has been breached. You'd never imagined the day that there would be 1,000+ Devils fans chanting "let's go Devils" in your barn.

What comes around goes around. You can't stand that. Get used to it.

With a hard salary cap & new arena, we are here to stay....and continue to dominate you.
