Doctor Hook 10-21-2006, 02:52 PM Greetings from a B's fan. I picked up Marty's new bio the other day and it's a pretty good read, I was just wondering what the Devils fans think of it.
I'm about 3/4 of the way through it, and there's nothing too controversial in it. It's interesting to read about Marty's game day routines and his thoughts on the NJ puck scene.

It's pretty good, I like the humour.
Heat McManus 10-21-2006, 06:57 PM I read the majority of it at B&N a few weeks ago. I thought it was done very well. Much of the criticism seems to come from people who would have brought up Marty's off-ice follies under a post entitled "Brodeur saves newborns from fire", so...
It made me proud of the Devils organization. Brodeur's main focus was on loyalty to his team and their emphasis on being competitive.
A_Mack17 10-22-2006, 08:59 AM I cant wait to read it! my parents just bought it over there in canada and they'll be back here in a couple of days yeeha! they are also bringing me back an edmonton oilers jersey signed by a few of their players (i'd rather a devils jersey....)
JackieChan 10-22-2006, 11:08 AM So the book is out on Brodeur? ... :P just kidding
Seriously, what's going on with him? Maybe hes injured? how does he explain tje situation when interviewed about it?
jkrdevil 10-22-2006, 12:08 PM I think Marty is fine it's just his defense is hanging him out to dry. Brodier made some amazing saves against Ottawa last night it's just that Ottawa got so many chances they were able to put a bunch in.
Heat McManus 10-22-2006, 12:12 PM I was only able to watch about 10 min of the opening period and Marty looked pretty damn sharp. I went out and checked the scores when I came back and my jaw hit the floor.
A_Mack17 10-26-2006, 03:08 AM well i just got the book, very interesting read!
i got my oilers jersey too, its signed by Georges Laraque :biglaugh: just my luck! wish it was signed by Sykora...
devils1983 12-25-2006, 06:17 PM I just got Marty's book today for Christmas..actually two of them. A copy from my wife and another copy from my parents. As I type this I've only gone through the first 2 chapters. In chapter one (not sure if anyone else has pointed this out) Marty and Damien Cox made an error. He talks about his draft day in 1990 at GM Place. GM Place didn't open until the 1995-96 season. The '90 draft was held at the Pacific Coliesum in Vancouver.
evilgenius 12-25-2006, 06:21 PM I'm most of the way through it, and so far it has been a pretty good read.
tyler9190 12-25-2006, 09:08 PM I just finished mine 2 days ago and I started back in October lol I'm a very slow reader
Central Jersey Devil 12-25-2006, 10:35 PM I just got mine today too. Startling to see how close the Devs were to drafting Trevor Kidd over Marty...
x eric x 12-26-2006, 10:51 AM i got the book yesterday for christmas and i've read 54 pages so far. so far so good.

We can all thank David Conte and Claude Carrier for that, according to Marty. I liked the story about his kids at the Ranger game. Shows a rather human side to him.

I'm pretty sure Kidd wasn't on the Devils radar as a pick. Calgary made the trade because they were afraid that Kidd wouldn't be there for them as a 20th pick....that's why the trade was made.
TB Sheets 12-26-2006, 03:45 PM I got the book for christmas... I'm on chapter 2 now (not much time to read, since we hosted christmas for our family).

Suckers.
Tricolore#20 12-26-2006, 04:09 PM I bought the book and read it in 3 days. I'll give it somewhat mixed opinions. It certainly didn't go into anything too controversial or surprising. However, I do appreciate the fact that it was written on somebody who is still within the game, and highly active.
The most interesting parts to me were Brodeur's opinions on Patrick Roy, and the whole 1998 experience. The parts detailing Marty's contract negotiations were interesting too, because you really get a sense that he is a team player, and truly isn't in it to make money, first and foremost. You also get a closer look at the type of leader Brodeur is. He constantly talks about the league in an intelligent manner (ie: marketing, goaltender's club, etc...) and is truly someone who all goalies should look to.
I think one thing the book made me appreciate is the work done by Lou. Even though I am a Canadiens fan, I have the upmost respect for Lou and how he runs the organization. I really admire how he has put together a team, which continually overcomes adversity and naysayers to be one of the best teams in the league. I thought the book did a great job in highlighting his work on the Devils, and how he treats his players.
Cry_Wolf 12-31-2006, 07:12 PM I picked up Marty's book and still have some ways to go, I'm not a fast reader. So far though, it's an interesting read. I like how he went into the history of the Devils for a bit as I didn't know most of the stuff he mentioned. It was also interesting to read how he got brought up to the Devils through the draft and then called up from the minors. As I said, it's an interesting read and I can't wait to get back to it.
DevFan-RU- 12-31-2006, 07:45 PM I'm reading it now... Good book. Nothing spectacular, but it does give you insight into the game and the NHL itself.
My heart sank reading about how the team was going in the 1st half of last year. I never knew it was so bad.
But, they turned it around, and so far, this season is going ok.
TaiMaiShu 01-14-2007, 05:57 PM Bumping this to bring something interesting. Being a big Heater fan, I was surprised to hear what Vokoun said to the Heatley during a game. It was very stupid to say and I now have less respect for him. This has been a great book so far and was nice to read of some insight from his point of view.
