From the Star Ledger:
Despite inaccurate claims by Devils management that David Hale has been day-to-day since being hit in the right eye by a deflected puck in practice on Sept. 29, it was revealed that the young defenseman underwent surgery on his retina nine days ago and will miss at least three weeks.
"The vision has not come back 100 percent," general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "They did some minor surgery on his retina. He can skate but they don't want him to have any contact for 2-3 weeks, so he's out three weeks."
Hale will be placed on the long-term injury list, which gives the Devils another $550,000 break on the salary cap in case they want to recall another defenseman....
