Got this from the Prospects board. Besides Corrente, there's some big names there.
Hope that this is all a bunch of overblown crap.
GentlemanOfLeisure 10-10-2006, 12:37 AM well corrente is only 18. when i was that age, i was "chillin" with a few girls around that age. NO biggie.
JimEIV 10-10-2006, 12:40 AM well corrente is only 18. when i was that age, i was "chillin" with a few girls around that age. NO biggie.
Yeah but did the Police ever do an investigation into your "chillin"? This doesn't sound good.
Heat McManus 10-10-2006, 12:51 AM I hope the truth comes out either way. Hate to see a guy's reputation tarnished with "allegations". With that said, if Corrente did something illegal it might not bode well with Lou.
JerryGigantic 10-10-2006, 06:50 AM well corrente is only 18. when i was that age, i was "chillin" with a few girls around that age. NO biggie.
Were you "chillin" with four other dudes as well, with just the one 15 year old girl? Biggie.
Ronnie Bass 10-10-2006, 08:44 AM I would feel alot better if Corrente's hero wasn't John Gotti.
crashlanding 10-10-2006, 09:02 AM I would feel alot better if Corrente's hero wasn't John Gotti.
That's exactly what I was thinking. :shakehead
Jonathan. 10-10-2006, 12:10 PM I would feel alot better if Corrente's hero wasn't John Gotti.
I'm still suprised you guys drafted him.
borrachon 10-10-2006, 01:12 PM I would feel better if we waited for some hard facts before throwing the kid under the bus. Nobody cared about the Gotti thing when he had a good camp.

I agree! First, has he been arrested? I have no idea what happened to this young girl and if Corrente is involved, but if this was your son, brother or nephew, like Vinne mentioned, you wouldn't be throwing him under a bus so fast. Let's wait for some more details before rushing to judgement.
MissionHockey 10-10-2006, 04:27 PM I'm still suprised you guys drafted him.
He surprised during camp. He was better than most of the defensemen on the team actually.
lucscaps 10-10-2006, 05:05 PM I would feel better if this thread was locked untill we get more details. I don't want to see this get out of hand.
devs4L 10-10-2006, 05:12 PM I think we need more info. before judging. These are just allegations at this point after all. According to a Rich Chere interview with Corrente during camp, the Gotti thing was blown out of proportion anyway. Corrente told Chere that at the time, he was just reading a book about Gotti and was impressed by the fact Gotti came from nothing, not really that Gotti was his idol.
crashlanding 10-10-2006, 05:14 PM I would feel better if we waited for some hard facts before throwing the kid under the bus. Nobody cared about the Gotti thing when he had a good camp.
I don't see anyone throwing him under the bus. This, along with the Gotti thing, are not good signs when you ask yourself "Is Corrente a 'Devils kind of guy' (TM)"?
Of course we have no evidence of anything he did wrong. But, at the very least, he broke team rules and allowed himself to be put in this situation because of poor judgment. We know very little of his character, but of what we do know it doesn't look good.
DevilsFan38 10-10-2006, 05:22 PM The Bergen Record (http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?qstr=eXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2JmZnYmVs N2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2OTk0Njc2) had an article on Corrente a few weeks ago, in which he explained the Gotti choice a little more:
I was reading a book at the time and by no means do I idolize the way he got to the top," the Devils' 2006 first-round pick said Tuesday. "It was just the way he started from nothing with a poor family and made a name for himself
On the subject of locking this thread: since there are articles on the incident and it's not just hearsay, the thread can stay open. However, since it is a very touchy subject and there is very little information, I'll be keeping a close eye on it. Any inappropriate comments or potentially libelous statements and this thing will get locked.
Lastly, I agree with Vinnie - I need to hear a lot more information before I make any judgements on Corrente.
Jonathan. 10-10-2006, 05:29 PM He surprised during camp. He was better than most of the defensemen on the team actually.
Just character wise. He's always seemed to be a hot head to me and easily rattled. That's all. He's definately a talented player.

As someone pointed out the fact that the Spirit have been mentioned on the Colbert Report could draw even more media attention to this than warrented -- which could make it way worse.

I don't think that will be the case. The mascot is the only part of the team that he drew attention to. Colbert probably wouldn't like to hurt the team because, in the grand scheme of things, this is a nonissue. This kind of sensationalism, especially when there aren't any details to report on, is just the kind of thing Colbert dislikes.
Also, imagine the words "Ontario Hockey League" anywhere near the media outside of Canada and the cities in the US that have teams.
I'm sure it will be covered in Canada because junior hockey is such a big deal up there, but in the US only the pro sports and college football and basketball are really taken notice of.
crashlanding 10-10-2006, 06:15 PM The clarification of the Gotti comment still doesn't put me at ease. Gotti may have started with nothing and made a name for himself, which is admirable for anyone...unless you make a name for yourself through crime.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Gotti is a pure role model or inspiration. What it shows me about Corrente is that he doesn't think and that gets him in trouble, as it did in the interview and as it has here.
Just to clarify so it doesn't look like I'm jumping to conclusions about what he did. He and the other four players were suspended for violating team rules. These same five players are under police investigation. So the only assumption I'm making is if he didn't break team rules he wouldn't be under investigation or in trouble like the rest of the team.
DevilsSMASH 10-10-2006, 06:53 PM It could be as simple as them having a drinking binge and offering alcohol to a minor.... I'll reserve judgement until there is more info.

They are minors also.

Unless somebody dies or is mamed in the NHL, the mainstream media really doesn't care. Case in point: the debacle in Sweden during the lockout involving Huselius among others.

Good point.
When NY Rangers player Roman Lyashenko was killed no one heard a word of it.

i see your point.

I'm pretty sure, meaning I looked yesterday and my memory could be off, that all but one of them are 18+.
crashlanding 10-10-2006, 08:34 PM i see your point.
I don't, how does he know it was just the one 15 year old girl. It could have been a party, there could have been lots of girls there could have been the one girl, that's just speculation.
However, whatever happened to this one girl apparently merits a police investigation.
Jonathan. 10-10-2006, 08:44 PM Funny thing is that Colbert talked about the Spirit last night about their win over Sudbury. I'm watching the show right now and seeing him talk about them.
Apparantly he's going to give them some decent publicity.

Last night Colbert had a broom for Saginaw's 3-0 run and was comparing hockey to baseball. I thought the episode may have been in the can before the alleged incident was released to the media yesterday. Can't wait for tonight's show, the coach and rest of the team showed they can win without the suspended players. Nice to see hockey get some positive comedy coverage. The players have done their sentence. Hopefully, no one was hurt and everyone moves on.

He's giving them positive publicity, I don't think he'd mention this.

What do you mean by they've done their sentence? A ruling was handed out?
JerryGigantic 10-11-2006, 05:07 AM i see your point.

There is an inherently salacious ring to the reported charges, especially since it involves kids, with ample room for ugly worst case scenarios (despite the vaguery of the whole thing). People filling in their own dots is a serious problem, in itself, in the time prior to the full truth coming out. Even if this is resolved without criminal convictions, which is quite possible, some stigma may remain attached to the players.
That is why I kind of jumped on GentlemanOfLiesure, as he seemed to be taking this a little too blithely, IMO. He recognised my point, as noted above, like a gentleman. Much appreciated.
And, crashlanding, I take your point. Any number of scenarios may have taken place. Some potentially benign and harmless, at least in retrospect. Some maybe the result of being just a little too drunk or roudy. And some scenarios potentially being awful, criminal, hateful. Who knows. So why speculate, even broadly, as it pours fuel on the fire.
I just think taking it too lightly isn't appropriate, either.
Tao Jones 10-11-2006, 06:30 PM What do you mean by they've done their sentence? A ruling was handed out?
Poor word choice/usage, I should have said they have served their team imposed suspension.
michaelb27 10-28-2006, 12:12 AM The legal drinking age in canada is set by the province.
It's 18 in alberta, quebec, and manitoba. 19 everywhere else. 18 is the age of an adult which is federally set. I find it funny how in the United states, you can kill people in war at 18, but can't drink till your 21. I'd like to see a 20 year old iraq war amputee veteran of war being told he's not old enough to buy alcohol. lol. Such Hypocracy!
The legal age of consentual sex in canada is 14(as long as your not in a position of authority). The legal age of consentual sex in Michigan is 16. I truly don't see the difference between an 18 year old man and a 40 year old man when it comes to having sex with a 15 year old. The difference between a 40 year old man and an 18 year old when it comes to understanding sex is only in social and cultural perception, not reality. Trust me, none of the 18 year old guys on that team are even remotely "innocent kids." Remember being 18? There the biggest dogs of all at that age and there men. We seem to be changing what we consider to be an adult nowadays to 21 all the while kids are maturing at an even earlier age. It doesn't make any sense. If an 18 year old commits a crime, they should be charged as a juvenile?...hell no! Whats the difference between an 18 year old molesting a 10 year old and a 40 year old man doing it? NOTHING. There grown men playing a pro style man's game.(no full shields and fighting). It must be stated that a 15 year old is not a child, their an adolescent. A child is a person who hasn't gone through puberty yet and has no understanding of sex. I think arresting someone for having sex with a 16/17 year old late teen is nonsense.(anything under the age of 15 should be arrested and dealt a very harsh penalty. I don't think 14 should be legal) They know in there late teens EXACTLY what there doing. There not a 12 year old child who doesn't understand what's going on when someone puts there hand on there leg.
Sevat 10-28-2006, 12:45 AM Intense post, MichaelB. Well thought out though... but ****ing intense.

Nope. Hopefully this all blows over for everyone involved...unless something illicit took place, in that case throw the book at them.
Andromedan 10-30-2006, 05:52 AM Any News? I saw, Corrente played the last week.
