I'm a huge Tim Brent fan, and have been since his time at St Mike's. It sounds like he had one heck of a camp. I understand The Ducks have 5 signed centers to one-way contracts. Was that the reason he was cut? Also, do you think after the camp he just had he should move back up on your top prospects list? He is still only 22 years old, and you have guys like Pierre Parenteau, Brian Salcido, Drew Miller ahead of him on the list. 4 goals and 1 assist in 5 pre-season games seems pretty impressive to have him ranked so low on the list.

Several reasons for being cut (as I see them):
1) There was only really one F spot open (if that) and Shannon set the bar pretty high
2) Shannon was playing wing for most of camp, while Brent almost exclusively played center...competing against McDonald, Pahlsson, Marchant, and Getzlaf
3) He did have four goals, but two of them were of the "dumb-luck, right-place-right-time" variety (not that we don't need a few of those every now and then)
He did have a very good camp and I expect that we'll be seeing him as a call-up sometime this year.
Just my $0.02 :)

I'll defend my ranking because I made the call. I lowered Brent simply because he lost a lot of time over the past two seasons with injury and that is an issue that may affect whether or not he eventually becomes an NHL player.
The ranking was made before training camp begun and Brent definitely had a strong camp from all accounts. I view this as a make or break season for Brent, as he has to prove that he deserves to be considered a viable NHL prospect.
He doesn't have Konopka or Shannon ahead of him on the depth chart anymore in the minors, so the opportunity exists for him to take a huge step in his development. If he endures another injury filled season, he may find himself being passed over by other prospects.
If Brent can stay healthy and help lead the offense in the AHL, two things he hasn't shown so far, he probably will climb the rankings again. But at the present, there's still far too many questions.
