Last game of the pre-season and therefore, a REALLY really important game for St. Jacques, O'Brien, Thornton, Brent, and Shannon. Should be a good one.

Feature Article of the Day

"Injuries Have Not Been a Problem", LATIMES
http://www.latimes.com/sports/hockey/nhl/ducks/la-sp-duckrep30sep30,1,1651340.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-nhl-ducks&ctrack=1&cset=true

Veteran forward Travis Green has been the only player to miss an extended period of time with a hip problem, but he skated through a full practice Friday and may suit up tonight.

Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle was impressed with his team's fitness at the beginning of camp and said there is more than good fortune behind their ability to stay healthy.

"It speaks to the organization's mandate to our playing personnel that conditioning is going to be a huge asset in them moving forward as a professional," Carlyle said. "We're going to spend the time and effort in making sure they're educated in that area."

Marchant said their conditioning is especially needed to maintain their aggressive forechecking style over a long season.

"We're always doing a little extra here and there, whether it's on the ice or off," he said. "Hopefully it will pay off down the road when we're going to need it."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update from Back East

Pirates fall to Lowell 6-4 in their first pre-season game. Goals from Southern, Erickson (2), and Hynes.

I've had enough of the pre-season...time to play some meaningful games.

A couple of players have made the case to remain with the team despite their 2-way contracts (Brent, Thornton)...and a couple of players have made the case to be cut despite their 1-way contracts (Green, Moen)...Is Burke willing to make it happen?

Looks like O'Brien has made the team. St. Jacques is the only player still with the team to be scratched for both of the last two pre-season games.

in that case is Moen redundant with Fedoruk on the team?

I think Thornton is in a battle with Moen for the last forward spot (healthy scratch most nights spot). I guess Moen is a slightly better hockey player than Thornton, but Thornton is a better fighter than Moen. Moen has the 1-way contract so he will stay and Thornton will be cut.

I think Carlyle will probably agree with you, leaving Moen as the frequent healthy scratch and Thornton ticketed for Portland.
