Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 09-27-2006, 10:46 PM So, does anyone know if there will be any changes to our captains and alternates this year? I know that Scotty Nieds still has the C, but in a picture, I noticed Teemu didn't have an A on, while Scotty did indeed have the C. Is Carlyle naming new alternates, or did they just forget to put the A on Selanne?
Jennifer 09-27-2006, 11:40 PM tonights game (wed) Rob and Pronger had A's

Did Selanne play in the game? If so, I think it would really be ****** of Carlyle to take it away from Teemu and hand it to Pronger.
Static 09-28-2006, 02:04 AM Maybe they will rotate it...
ktulu98 09-28-2006, 02:18 AM or maybe selanne dont want A
Sevat 09-28-2006, 03:00 AM Rob shouldn't have an A I don't think.
He's only going to get it because he's Scotty's brother, I think.
Selanne is more deserving from my point of view.
Let the bashing begin.
Niel Patrick Harris 09-28-2006, 02:42 PM I think it should be selanne... that man is so deserving...
Jerky Leclerc 09-28-2006, 02:54 PM What's the saying again? You don't need a letter to be a leader. With the quality of people in the lockerroom, I don't think it matters to the players who wears the "C" or an "A." I'm fine with Pronger and RNieds wearing the "A." Teemu has so much respect in the league that I'm sure when he talks, people listen.
What you want is the person who's most well spoken and knows the rules best to have the letters. Leadership needs no letters.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 09-28-2006, 07:32 PM I do know that Selanne doesn't need a letter to lead, and wouldn't be choked if Pronger got the A, but I'm getting a Selanne jersey very quickly, and wanted to know if he'd be wearing an A or not.

Ahh, there you have the economic component in the lettering system. Even if Selanne doesn't wear the "A," I would get a jersey with it anyways.
Spiral 10-05-2006, 02:50 PM This is on today's OCRegister (http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/sports/abox/article_1298326.php):
Coach Randy Carlyle announced that defenseman Scott Niedermayer will remain Ducks captain for a second season. Right wing Rob Niedermayer and defenseman Chris Pronger will serve as assistants.
Pronger will wear the A that belonged to right wing Teemu Selanne at the end of last season, after the Ducks traded former assistants Sergei Fedorov and Keith Carney.
"Teemu will be the alternate, as he was last year," Carlyle said. "Teemu is probably one of our most vocal leaders. He doesn't need a letter to be part of our leadership group. We don't expect leadership to come from one, two or three individuals. We expect to have upwards of 10 leaders."
Yeah, maybe Selanne doesn't need a letter to be a leader, but I still don't like the fact that they took away the "A" from Teemu. He way deserve it more than, say, Rob Niedermayer.

Agreed, but he deserves it more then Pronger as well.
190Octane 10-05-2006, 06:30 PM Part of the reasoning behind this might be that RNieds is rumored to be a pretty good guy in the locker room and a big time jokester?
kenabnrmal 10-05-2006, 06:42 PM As much as I love Teemu, coach is right, he doesn't need a letter to be a leader. He's the face of the franchise, and from most accounts, a huge part of the personality of the team. It's not about who "deserves" it, but how it will best suit the team. Rob N. may not have the profile that Teemu does, but he could very well be a fantastic guy in the room and a great leader. Perhaps the coaching staff feels that the A gives him a bit more confidence on the ice or in the room. It really helps some guys. As for Pronger, he's very recently been a hated foe for the Ducks. The A helps establish him as a core member of the team, both to the rest of the team, and to Pronger himself.
snarktacular 10-05-2006, 07:36 PM The other aspect of captains is conversing with refs. Now I have no idea who's the best liked, but perhaps those three are more respected by the refs? Although I kinda always thought Pronger was a little whiny, that may be a good thing. Squeaky wheel gets the oil and all.

Yeah, I have heard that R. Nieds is always the most vocal man in the locker room.
Also, good post kenabnrmal! :)

Which is weird because whenever they interview him he seems so bland and monotone. I guess that's his facade.
ed1900 10-10-2006, 11:04 AM I live in Canada , my question is I know Niedermayer {Scottie} wears the "C", but what two others wear the "A" s.....
Pwnasaurus 10-10-2006, 11:24 AM R.Niedermayer, Chris Pronger and Todd Ewen.

They have three: Rob Niedermayer, Chris Pronger and Teemu Selanne, not Todd Ewen... whoever the hell that is!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry...Oh and there's a thread about the same topic like on the first page already.

You can laugh...it's ok.
Kick Save 10-10-2006, 02:32 PM They have three: Rob Niedermayer, Chris Pronger and Teemu Selanne, not Todd Ewen... whoever the hell that is!
Todd Ewen is an illustrator of children's books. He also was one of the enforcers on the very first Ducks team (the expansion team). He and "the Grim Reaper". That team wasn't very good skillwise, but they didn't get pushed around too much.
Pwnasaurus 10-10-2006, 02:35 PM He also wore the "A" and has never been in my kitchen.
You are forgetting Troy Loney
190Octane 10-10-2006, 08:30 PM Can someone name everyone to ever wear the C for the Ducks in regular season play?
I can think of 6... name those captains!
snarktacular 10-10-2006, 08:39 PM Loney, Ladoceur, Kariya, Rucchin, Selanne, Niedermayer. I feel like there's one before Kariya I'm missing.
lux_interior 10-10-2006, 09:00 PM No. I think that's it.
Lyons71 10-10-2006, 09:29 PM second'd
I distinctly remember, Loney, then mustache man, then Kariya. Selanne's worn the C and Rucchin and Nieds got it too.
snarktacular 10-10-2006, 10:18 PM Yeah I looked it up. There were only 6. I do remember loving Ladouceur's 'stache. More captainly or something.
190Octane 10-10-2006, 10:36 PM Those were the 6 I thought of also.
