DUCKS vs. KINGS 09/25/06

MightyAdam

Alright, a new year, a new start for both teams.
Tonight will be a hard-fought battle. Will the Kings be able to create offense with Niedermeyer and Pronger on the ice? Will the Ducks be able to continue to have chemistry on the top line of Selanne, McDonald and Kunitz? How will Chistov do in his first game back against the kings? Will Blake have a good night? These questions will all be answered in tonights match-up! So, get ready folks. Tonight, its gonna be war out there! IT'S GAME TIME!
GO DUCKS!!!

Anze Kopitar

Profile
Forward Anze Kopitar has impressed the Kings' hierarchy to no end, including Jack Ferreira, a special consultant.

"He is as good as Paul Kariya was when he first came to the Ducks," said Ferreira, who was the Ducks' general
manager at the time. "Paul was 19 then, like Anze is now. He was a faster skater, but Anze is bigger."

Kopitar was one of the best players on the ice Tuesday, going against San Jose's Joe Thornton, who won the
Hart Trophy last season. He is trying to make the team out of camp instead of being sent to Manchester in the
American Hockey League.

"He played in the Swedish Elite League last season, and that was a big step," Coach Marc Crawford said. "Is
that enough to skip the AHL right now? The preseason will tell. Anze has a thirst for knowledge. You got to
love that in a player."

Do you think Stewart will play tonight? I was expecting him to play in the last 2 games, but I don't think he did...did he go on the trip?

TheJoeMan
09-25-2006, 02:05 PM
That's some heavy praise for Kopitar from Ferraria. Kariya was one of those once in a generation prospects. He was able to step into our lineup and be our best player right away. Though completely different circumstances, I don't think Kopitar is that talented. At least from what I saw at the Rookie Tourney. But no matter, he's going to be special and Prongs and Scotty will have their hands full tonight.

Roster for tonight and the lines they were icing at the morning skate:

Forwards
Kunitz/McDonald/Selanne
Fedoruk/Marchant/Shannon
Moen/Pahlsson/Thornton
Chistov/Brent/Genoway

Defense
Niedermayer/St. Jacques
Pronger/O'Donnell
Moran/Rome

Goaltenders
Giguere
Leighton

Additional notes:
--Mikkelson does appear to have been "left behind" in Vancouver
--Skinner is packing his bags for Portland as I type :(
--Peters is the only one unaccounted for this morning
--Don't know if he had this on Saturday, but Leighton is sporting the "spork" on his new mask, with the psycho versions of Bryz's cartoon characters

Today was the last practice at AI, so I likely will not have access to the rosters for Games 7/8. And we'll have to rely on the Ducks website for roster moves. :shakehead

Well, I guess it's down to OB and St. Jacques than. Maybe Kuskins still has an outside chance but I doubt it. They should send Peters to Portland now anyways, hasn't really been affective at all.

You noticed that, did ya? ;)

Yeah, it took me a while before it clicked (I was keeping an eye out for anyone NOT showing up for practice). I think we're either trying to make a statement...or to keep the Kings from making a statement of their own.

You know what they say, you can't teach old dogs new tricks. In this case, I'm locking the previous game GDT so new posters will get in the habit of using the newer one. When the regular season begins, I don't think it will be necessary to lock it as people will be used to moving their GDT discussions from thread to thread.

He played for Portland last year (the Ducks AHL affiliate if you didn't know) and was pretty decent. Sounds like he has really played his way back to the AHL this preseason.

how did you get him though? UFA? trade?
and why isnt his spot open for drats (max kondratiev)?
now ive never seen st. jacques play but from what i hear drats cant be much worse than him, besides that i really liked him with the rangers and it kinda hurt when we traded him for sykora , especially considering his age.
or could it be that kondratiev choosed to play in russia?

Ah, I thought you were joking by stating the obvious: "we will lose unless we win..."

Right -- Drats is in Russia this year. The Ducks still retain his rights though, so he could be back in the picture next year. I believe St. Jacques was aquired via free agency (don't quote me though).

oooooooooooooooooh ok, im sorry about that one static, now i got it.

thanks for the clarification davey..

No problem. I had to take a second look myself to make sure that he wasn't talking crap to a guy with a Nikki Cox avatar. That avatar automatically gets you a free pass or two.

Guess he means that we actually acquired St. Jacques in a trade. We sent Craig Adams to Carolina. (I'm sure he is on his knees thanking Burke now... :D).

Tough loss considering we were up 3-0 at one point. :(

For all the "Jiggy sucks in shootouts" people, we didn't lose because Jiggy gave up 2 goals on 6 shots, we lost because we scored 1 goal on 6 shots. Seriously, he has to be near perfect to win with our shooters in the SO. They really need to drill SO's a lot more or something, because they should be scoring much more than they did last year and this preseason.

Boy do I hate pre-season. Its like getting worked over for nothing. Lets get the regular season going ASAP.

Were the four regulation goals by the Kings more a reflection of:

a) giguere's goaltending

or

b) 2 of the 3 pp goals by LA coming on 5-on-3's

?

Boy do I hate pre-season. Its like getting worked over for nothing. Lets get the regular season going ASAP.I agree. It's a rollercoaster of extremes. A win means that you're contenders and a loss is an omen of a long season ahead. How the imagination runs wild when there's no TV. I always feel teased this time of year. Just a little over a week more to put up with.

Just got back from the game. It was all Ducks for almost the first 40 minutes. Then a few trips to the box and the tide turned. Both teams got 3pp goals each. But it went to a shoot out 6 shooters for both teams and the Kings won but close non the less.

Bad penalties and stupid decisions with the puck.

he is an AHLer.

St. Jacques was acquired in a trade with Carolina after the lockout...for Craig Adams who the Ducks had just signed as a UFA.

Kondratiev wanted a one-way contract or he was going back to Russia, so he is in Russia.

The final d-man spot is Shane O'Brien's to lose now.

I didn't think anyone could look bad playing with Nieds and Pronger. I guess I was proven wrong. Kondrats is an idiot. Pardon my french. Anaheim still owns his rights and Burke will never give him a one-way contract. O'brien has gotten stronger and I'm sure he's going to get some more games in before the final decision will be made.

"Duh, Jiggy suxorz in SO, he didn't stops ever shot!!1!!"

Idiots. How come no one ever gets mad at Teemu for not scoring? I knew the thing was over as soon as I heard Chistov's name - he had no one to pass to.

Chris Pronger wasn't exactly the best idea for the shootout... just sayin'
