letterH 11-17-2003, 07:10 PM I hate rumors as much as anyone, but I heard from a very reliable source that a HUGE name is coming to Kamloops as early as Thursday. I wont post the name as most boards dont allow rumors, but get ready.
I totally believe this as my source has been right on so many times and has no reason to BS.
andora 11-17-2003, 09:10 PM phaneuf !
shazata69 11-18-2003, 08:21 AM Sheen was a nice start, definetly a nice piece. And we definetly needs help on the backend as good as these youngsters have played. I doubt its Phaneuf as Sutter could have him potentially for next year to. But if this guy is wrong then it is a bunch of BS.
andora 11-18-2003, 09:41 AM phaneuf won't be back in the whl next year
shazata69 11-18-2003, 09:43 AM If there's a lockout he will be. I mean maybe who knows, Christensen goin back the other way maybe?
andora 11-18-2003, 08:30 PM Got a point here. Phaneuf is only 18. He can't even play in the AHL next season (they gotta change that rule).
disagree, the rule is fine imo
and fine, if there is no lockout, phaneuf will not be back, he's too good
Big_Mac 11-19-2003, 03:10 AM IMO, I agree with Van. If he is too good to be in the WHL then he should be allowed to play hockey at the AHL or NHL level.
Round John 11-19-2003, 04:53 AM Skill wise Dion could be playing at the AHL level, but how much farther do you want to water down the WHL?
From a developmental and entertainment perspective having the best 18 and 19 year olds playing in the CHL is better. Developmental because right now the level of competition is greater and players must raise their own personal performance bar higher providing better players for the NHL. Entertainment because the level of play is greater watching the best 18 and 19 year olds with a few top 16 and 17 year olds compete (as it currently is), as opposed to a smattering of 18 and 19 year olds combined with a lot of 16 and 17 year olds in what would be glorified midget hockey.
If you think the WHL is not as good now as opposed to the 1980's or 90's because of expansion... change the rules and allow 18 or 19 year olds to play in the AHL when their NHL rights holders send them down for further development. The WHL is an 18 and 19 year olds league. In general the teams with the greatest success in any given year have a better group of 18 and 19 year olds than lesser teams.
Then again I could just be selfish and want to continue to watch some of the best hockey on the planet in the dub and want to keep it that way.
IMO, I agree with Van. If he is too good to be in the WHL then he should be allowed to play hockey at the AHL or NHL level.
andora 11-19-2003, 03:03 PM well idealy, draft age is moved to 19, not allowed to sign a contract until you're 20, whl minimum age becomes 16 or 17..
idealy, for me anyhow
Round John 11-20-2003, 08:01 AM I completely agree the WHL is a developmental league, however history shows moving up WHL kids too soon could kill their development most recent examples include Blackburn in NY or Hartnell in Nashville who is just now finding his game again.
Regardless of what is the right way to develope a player to their greatest potential one thing I believe we all would agree on is IF Dion Phaneuf were to be traded it would be a tremendous defensive upgrade for the team getting him, and he would come at a very very steep price.
The WHL is a stepping stone for players to advance themselves to the next level. Once their skill level allows them to do so, they should have the door open.
shazata69 11-20-2003, 01:02 PM So where is it big guy? Hmmm how many times have we seen these people with so called sources be wrong? Chances are you'll never be seen or post on this board again now.
andora 11-20-2003, 03:28 PM letterH < good

I would totally agree moving draft up to 19, and WHL min. to 17. It would help Midget hockey.
Re trade rumors, I don't think Sutter will trade Paneuf, but Kamloops needs defensive help. But the rumor I heard Kamloops was trying to get Harding. The Blazers have two great 17 yr old tenders, so I guess they might trade one?

I don't know if the Pats will make a move with Harding until the trade deadline gets much closer. A deal with Kamloops might make sense especially if there is a young quality goaltender and scoring forward involved coming back to the Pats.

Kamloops and Regina have a strong trading history, so I wouldn't be shocked to see something done. The defence has played really well for us this year but we can't expect to try and "go for it" using 4 rookies on the back end. This defence is gonna be great in 2 years but the time is now to make a run for it all. I don't know if trading Slade or Dubnyk who both want to tbe the number 1 guy and bringing in a guy like Harding makes much sense. But I think something like.....
Slade, 1st pick and something else for Harding and Schlenker.
Fact is we have 4 lines who can all score and have tremendous depth up front. So who knows but I think adding Harding would make us just about unbeatable.
thestonedkoala 11-27-2003, 10:00 AM It's Thursday!
What's the trade?

Blazers are moving slow, Cunning, Jacobsen both down for now, we'll see how the Blazes do!
