considering Alexei was often a healthy scratch in the AHL, I think it was a good decision.

The Nucks just signed him. I think that it is a good signing. Nothing to lose and a lot to gain. GL to him! :)

Yeah, right up there with Alexandre Daigle being drafted 1st overall ahead of Kariya and Pronger and a boatload of good players... we all know how that story ends.

Was his attitude really that bad? I remember watching him in juniors and I though he was gonna be great. Guess that´s the reason I´m not a scout :D

He's got skill, no one will say he won't. He just didn't work at all. He was lazy. He was drafted as a hit of miss player, and he missed. He'd been a star if he panned out.

Jesse Niinimäki for the oilers might be worse. He came over and played less than half a season with their AHL affiliate and then was dropped completly :> No interest whatsoever.

That doesn't mean he can be successful in Elitserien :) lots of mid-range finnish players have been stars there... And unmotivated czechs and slovaks usually can dominate...

Hmmm... is Alexei being tried out as a forward or a defenseman? If the Nucks sign him, then they can use Alexei's flexibility... ahem... all thanks to the Ducks. LoL

Not really. It's a fact.

But then as an antithesis, guys who were stars in the finnish league don't always become the same in the SEL, like Jani Hassinen. It has to do with the leagues being extremely different in style.

been skating with Alexi as of late. Still has ridiculous skills, talking about going back to Russia soon I believe.

His mind is mush...Chistov looks like Johnny Hustle compared to Smirnov. Too bad.

I liked him a lot in the early parts of the 2002-03 season. He showed a lot of hustle. If he developed an attitude problem, it was in the AHL. I know they tried to convert him to defense down there, which worked about as well as it usually does. Good luck to him. Hope he puts it all together somewhere.
