Devils_Fanatic30 08-09-2006, 02:29 PM I may be moving in the near furture and where I currently live I get FSN, MSG, OLN but when i move I may get one or none of the channels and I cant go without Devils hockey. I was thinking of looking into NHL Center Ice sports package thats offered through my cable provider. Do any of you get this or anything simillar? if so how much is it and is it worth the purchase?
Thanks
Easton 08-09-2006, 02:43 PM It's really not that expensive especially if you get it before the season starts. I think it's like $135 or something which comes out to less than a dollar per game and that's if you only include Devils games.
damnyankee 08-09-2006, 02:44 PM Last August I moved to NC from NJ. I wasted no time in ordering the NHL Center Ice package through Direct TV. I think it cost $129.00. I think it was worth every penny. If you calculate the cost per regular season game (Devils only that is) it works out to be $1.57 per game. I watch alot of other great match-ups that I would normally not get to see so the cost/benefit ratio is even better.:yo:
LetsgoCanes 08-09-2006, 02:49 PM I think the Center Ice package is worth every cent......basically Hockey every day during the season...also has special events...like the World Jr Tournament etc... that normally isn't covered in the States.

Nice, It sounds like it will be worth getting.... The thought of no hockey on TV for me brings back painful memories of the lockout. :shakehead I'll have to look into a DVR of some sort too to record the games i cant watch live.
Devilsfanatic 08-09-2006, 02:56 PM What I think is, if you can afford it, and you DON'T get it, then you're not a true fan of the game. I get it to watch the Devils and if they're not on I pick a game of the evening.

Yea, that's the thing I hope i can afford to get it. If I can I def will just needed some insight to see if it was really what they advertise it to be and that i'll get my money's worth. From the sounds of it I think I will

I have the DVR and I love it. Definitely beats VHS for recording the games. The DVR has alot of really useful features... gotta have it.

Do you know how much a good DVR runs for? I think I better start saving for all this now lol :biglaugh:

I got my DVR through Direct tv. It cost me nothing aside from the extra monthly charge on my bill. I think it is 4.99. They usually have deals for new subscribers and a DVR package is usually one you can choose from. Cable co. should also have similar deals, I would think.

Oh great!! not too much of an added expense then.:handclap:
Pwnasaurus 08-09-2006, 03:38 PM I agree with all the sentiments above. It is worth every penny.
Devilsin4* 08-09-2006, 03:42 PM I'm trying to figure out how I lived without Center Ice for all those years. It's worth every penny, my only complaint is that it's not hi-def.
beach 08-09-2006, 03:53 PM I moved to NC from Long Island and would not have moved if Center Ice was not available. It is amazing and indispensable.
Drake1588 08-09-2006, 03:57 PM On any random Saturday when you're stuck in the house for whatever reason, you can turn on the television at 1pm eastern and there is wall to wall continuous hockey until 1:30am. There's something incredibly cool about that.
It's worth it even if you're a fan of just one team, disinterested in watching any other team's games. Yet if you enjoy watching virtually any NHL hockey on the dial, regardless of the teams, that's when it's an incredible value.
Center Ice is THE greatest thing ever

Absolutely agree.... even if my team was in the tri-state market I would still order the package. There are some great games available almost every night and with the DVR you can watch more than 1 game.
The only issue I have is the lack of Hi-Def games.
Worth every penny... I believe it cost me 12,900 of them.

Heat McManus 08-09-2006, 06:08 PM It costs about as much as going to 3 or 4 games facoting in travel, parking, food, drinkk, etc. So I'd say it's worth it.
devils1983 08-09-2006, 06:34 PM Myself living out in western Canada, we don't get alot of Devils games on TV.....so getting Center Ice is worth it for me....infact for any diehard hockey fan it's worth it. If the Devils are not playing one night there's always a decent game to watch.
I was kind of surprised that Center Ice didn't give much of a deal last year to win fans back. I believe all they did was took off $20 for the "early bird" special. I was expecting a fee of $150 Cdn for the entire year, but it didn't pan out that way.

Damn I wanna go to those games your going to.....I spend a c-note easy on tickets alone and the seats are not even that great to begin with unless you spend less then $40 a game

I believe they gave the first 2 weeks free or something like that to get the intrest rising. i did not get mine until the season started do they show pre-season games?
missK 08-09-2006, 09:24 PM Absolutely worth every penny, I get to watch all the Devils games while living in Florida. Ask you cable or satellite provider if you can spead out the payments also. My cable provider (BrightHouse Tampa Bay) will spilt the total cost over 4 months and there's no extra charge for making the 4 payments. It breaks down to approx an extra $35 a month for 4 months. I usually order in late September or even beginning of October and the payments are usually made October-January.

Great idea spliting it up into payments would help out a great deal. I will look into that for sure.

Really want to know if there will be any pre-season coverage I remember last year we got overshadowe by Ranger Isle preseason games along witht he fact the mets were still on fsny....I would really like to see some of the younger guys show some stuff, like last year I eally would like to see foster play...
NHL Center Ice is love.
It is my highest-priority recreational expense these days. Ahead of attending games or buying apparel, even ahead of most music/DVD/videogame purchase. The one absolute in my entertainment budget is that NHL Center Ice *happens*.
I believe they gave the first 2 weeks free or something like that to get the intrest rising. i did not get mine until the season started do they show pre-season games?
That seems to vary from provider to provider. Last I checked, Rogers Cable in Canada never got preseason games; Bell ExpressVu does, but last year just about every preseason game on ExpressVu's schedule wound up being carried on The NHL Network anyway, so that kinda made the point moot (any Rogers subscriber could subscribe to The NHL Network). Not sure if that was a move the NHL network made to capitalize on post-lockout hockey-starvation or if it's something they plan to do again this year.
Now, there's no NHL Network in the US (I understand OLN was going to get one launched, I take it there's still no timetable on that?). But as to whether you'll get preseason games on Center Ice - you really need to specify what provider you might be subscribing through, and ask other customers of that provider if they carried preseason games last year.

THE DREADED CABLEVISION......so I highly doubt it they will do anything to save a buck....unforchunatly alot of our money is going into making the knicks the laughing stock of the league. Thanks for the help though im def gonna call tomorrow and find out.
BTW anyone is the NY are have thge new Verizon cable im really fed up with cablevision. I want to change but they really have you by the B*LLS:banghead:
flyersfan97 08-09-2006, 11:53 PM I live in Northern Jersey and DirecTV and their hockey package is the best money I've ever spent. I highly recommend it to anyone who lives in an 'out of market' area as I do. You will get just about every NHL game, including playoffs, there is. Ya know how NBC sometimes carries a game that means nothing to you or our division, will just go to the hockey channels and you will get the other games being aired.
I didn't read this entire thread, so forgive me if I'm being repetitive, but you can pay it in three or four installments which is how I do it. I moved a few years ago and before I even called PSE&G or the phone company, I called DirecTV to make sure my dish would be installed before I even officially moved in. Heck, it was November and there was no way I was missing so much as even one game.
It costs about as much as going to 3 or 4 games facoting in travel, parking, food, drinkk, etc. So I'd say it's worth it.
I'd like to find out about these games as well.
That's the one good thing living in Washington. I can go to a Caps game for 3 dollars on the metro, roundtrip, along with $10 Eagle's Nest tickets. Since the phonebooth is even more empty than the Meadowlands, moving around isn't too hard, though getting into the lower bowl can be difficult at times. I had paid 24 dollars to see the second Devils game down there, and managed to 9 rows up on Marty's goalline for the shootout. Very cool.
I'd still rather have the Center Ice package for my dorm room though. :(

What are you talking about living in an 'out of market' area? You're in North Jersey, brotha. You're in Devils' country. Welcome home. ;)
golfmade 08-10-2006, 07:07 AM CI is worth every penny. Honestly when I had it last season it was the best money i've ever spent.
Rabid Husky 08-10-2006, 07:11 AM Got it last year for the first time and I'll never not get it again
Smitty426 08-11-2006, 12:30 PM I have Comcast and watch Devs on Fox Sports New York (like many of you I am sure). I think I pay about $16 a month x 10 months (preseaon to late playoffs-hopefully) which works out to $160. If Center Ice is $130-$150 a year its a no brainer. Plus I have dual drive DVR (tape 2 shows at once)for $10 a month which would rock with all the games! My question is who announces the Devs games on Center Ice? Some hate Doc and Chico (what college guys went to-If I hear St. Cloud State one more time!), but I like Doc. Chico was our goalie but is only slightly better than Dave Maloney who does the Rags games, he stinks. Any idea about announcers
Snap Wilson 08-11-2006, 12:31 PM Is NHL Center Ice worth it?
Does the Pope **** in the woods? Is a bear Catholic?
Center Ice carries the local feeds, so if you're watching the Devils on there (and they're not blacked out in your area, if you're in New Jersey, which they might be), it would either be your announcers or the other team's.
Jonathan. 08-11-2006, 07:24 PM The other thing that's worth it is getting the sports package with the NCAA games on it. Fairly cheap as well.
crashlanding 08-11-2006, 07:28 PM I'm going to have DirecTV soon, if I get the big sports pack with the NCAA channels, a ton of FSN and comcast sports channels, is it comparable?
I know I won't get the TSN/CBC/Rogers games but I wouldn't mind losing them to gain NCAA games with this package instead of centerice.

Problem with that is you won't get a single NHL game on those local channels. They are all blacked out.
It's definately worth it if you want to watch the NCAA. Frankly, if you can afford it, I'd be getting both Center Ice and the sports package if I were you. You will also even get to see a CHL game sometimes! Fairly rare, but they are on (especially the MAINiacs).

Aw man I was afraid they'd be blacked out. I was kind of counting on getting to watch the FSNY feed for every game even though I'm moving out of the area. Oh well, guess I'll be getting both probably. Hopefully Center Ice expands their WJC coverage this year.
