vadvlfan 08-07-2006, 07:57 PM The "energy" line as it's called now, manages a mere 3-7 mins a game. Atleast for the devs it has because they couldn't be counted on to score. I think we should rotate farm team players in and out of the line up until we see what they got when playing with the big club. I'd like to see Clarkson/foster/tallackson get a shot more often. Is a forth line stereotypically dump the puck, smear the d-man into the glass, and cycle the puck even if no one is there? Canes had a good(versatile) 4th line, cause they can chip one in every now & then. Rags had a decent one with dominic moore as center. And both received more ice time. Our 4th never saw ice time from mid 2nd period on.
I guess my point is our 4th line *should give farm players a better look *be atleast a lil scoring 'threat" * be able to shut down the other teams 4th line
Feed Me A Stray Cat 08-07-2006, 08:26 PM Ryznar - Rupp - Janssen/Voros/Clarkson/Foster/Gionta
Would be good, imo. Ryznar is good at cycling the puck and along the boards. I really don't remember much about Rupp, but apparently he played ok in the second half of last season. I think Janssen should then rotate with another guy from Lowell.
If we could somehow push Marshall down to the 4th line, that would help legitimize it as well.
Voros - Clarkson - Janssen would be a good pest line. Both Voros and Clarkson are pretty good at getting under the opponents skin.
DevilsSMASH 08-07-2006, 08:42 PM What if we resigned Rasmussen and made it:
Rasmussen - Rupp - Rotation spot
We know Ras can hit and handle the puck, Rupp will be given a fair shot to center the fourth line, and who knows, they might develop some kind of chemistry.
dzanimal16 08-08-2006, 12:36 AM I'd like to see Clarkson/foster/tallackson get a shot more often.
same here ive been suggesting this on some other boards too cuz i feel that foster is over his injuries and he was one of the last cuts last training camp.
AfroThunder396 08-08-2006, 01:19 AM I'd love to see Ryznar - Rupp - Janssen as the 4th line.

As much as I love Cam, I'd like to see him split time with someone with more offensive skills for the softer games. Cam can play the Rangers or Flyers, but we should try some people out on that wing.
JimEIV 08-08-2006, 09:04 AM I hope Cam doesn't get a lot of playing time this season. I'm sorry, I know a lot of people love the excitement he brings, but I don't think I have seen a more inept Devils player.
His hitting is exciting but he has absolutely no idea what to do with the puck. His shot is terrible, and he has no cycle/board work ability whatsoever and his hockey sense is probably not even good enough for the AHL.
I rather not see him on the ice for 3 minutes a game just to see one or two big hits. There are two or three guys that are much more deserving of an opportunity that can bring far more to the Devils.
Marty30 08-08-2006, 09:52 AM Janssen brings energy to the game. In a couple games this year when the devils looked flat, lou put out cam and he dished out a couple hits and gave the devils some life. I know he isnt an offensive threat, but hes gotta play.
Drewr15 08-08-2006, 10:28 AM I kind of agree with Jim in the sense that I wish Jansen brought more playing skills to the table beyond the hitting and energy. There were some games were that was definitely needed though and I love the energy Cam brings. I think having a 4th line that hardly plays worked against them in the playoffs though. I hope Cam can improve his other skills otherwise unfortunately I don't see him lasting in the lineup with just 2 shifts a game because the hitting and energy he brings is great I just don't know if being that one dimensional will keep him around long enough. Even if he could just improve his defensive skills so that your not panicked when he gets caught out there on a faceoff in the defensive zone against the other teams top line in the playoffs that would be enough for me.
Colin Whites Eye 08-08-2006, 01:04 PM id be kinda upset if cam didnt play often.
his energy is very important to this team. when we were playing crappy or struggling, i remember lou threw him out there a few times and we turned it around soon after.
plus, he makes the minimum
AfroThunder396 08-08-2006, 01:21 PM Whoever is on the 4th, they should play a lot more this year. Constantly playing 3 lines gets them tired, so rotating will let everyone stay fresh throughout the whole game. I think thats one of the reasons Buffalo and Carolina were so successful this year.

Exactly and my point is not to diss Cam as I love his energy and hitting but if his lack of other abilities is causing that line to get only 2 shifts a game I don't think he will last.
Captain Lou 08-08-2006, 08:42 PM As we all know, it is very important to have a 4th line that can put a few pucks in the net. Last year's 4th line couldn't hit water if it fell out of a boat, and that hurt them tremendously in the 2nd round. We definitely need to remember that a good 4th line makes the other three lines more refreshed and more able to do what they are supposed to.
To that end, I see no reason for Janssen to be out of press box most nights.
Darius Dangleaitis 08-09-2006, 01:28 AM I think Rupp will contribute to our 4th line's offensive problems...and Ryznar can potentially put a few pucks in the net...say 6-8 a year and maybe more if he reaches his full potential. Plus, if Tallackson makes the team on the 4th line, that will obviously help. We need energy guys like Janssen, but Oglethorpe made a good point that we basically forfeited all scoring chances for the 3-7 minutes the 4th line was on the ice in the playoffs.
JimEIV 08-09-2006, 08:55 AM I am really looking forward to Training Camp this season.
I think there is going to be a big opportunity for many young players to showcase their talents this preseason.

It was a pretty great training camp last season up to the final cuts, and this group is more interesting with a lot of new faces. I'm psyched.
