Hello Everyone,

I only would like to know, what do you think about the following question:

Which player will be the next "Captain" in the New Jersey Devils?:dunno:

Some of my friends think, Elias will be. If it will happen, then he will be the first Captain in the Devils, who was not born in North Amerika.

It will most likely be Patrik Elias. He clearly showed his importance to the team and his leadership when the team went from average to ridiculously good upon his return last season.

Elias, certainly.

If it will happen, then he will be the first Captain in the Devils, who was not born in North Amerika. He would be the first not born in Canada to be more exact. I agree with your friends that say that Elias will get it. John Madden also make a good captain, but Elias would be an even better choice.

Here is the history of New Jersey Devils captains:

Don Lever (September 1983 through January 1984)
Mel Bridgman (January 1983 through March 1987)
Kirk Muller (June 1987 - September 1990)
Bruce Driver (October 1991 through September 1992)
Scott Stevens (September 1992 through August 2005)
Scott Niedermayer* (January 2004 through May 2004)

* Served as captain while Scott Stevens was injured.
Note: The Devils used three alternate captains late in the 1986-87 season (Aaron Broten, Joe Cirella and Mark Johnson) after Mel Bridgman was traded, and the team alternately used five players to wear three alternate captains for the entire 2005-06 season (Elias, Madden, White, Rafalski and Mogilny.)

It will for sure be Elias, he didn't sign a retirment contract for nothing. Lou likes to give the captaincy to someone that will be around forever. That's why it's going to Elias.

Csumi Zandresz!

I'd say it'll be Patty, Maddog or Raffy. But i hope Lou choses Elias, because he deserves it the most, he brings a lot of leadership to the team, and he'll probably serve the team his entire career.

It will not be Rafalski. Count on that one.

If it is anyone but Elias, why was there no captain last season?

It'll be Elias.

Even though there wasn't a captain last year, Elias was always the one talking to the refs when he was in the lineup.

Although, it would be awesome to see Bettman hand the cup to Brodeur if we had no captain.

Elias will be the captain I reckon. Then a few years down the road, I would like to see Parise as the captain.

Probably because Elias didn't return to the lineup until halfway through the season, and they wanted to wait and see how he finished the season (and if he re-signed).

And I agree with the consensus, Elias should and will be the captain next year (and hopefully the first European to captain a team to the Cup!).

That's what I meant.

They could have made Rafalski, Madden, White or anyone else the captain last season.

They were obviously waiting to see if Elias would sign and didn't want to replace any of those guys after giving them the "C".

I think it will be Elias as well. Also, does Lou give the C out or would it be Julien? I know coaches have traditionally given it out, but given Lou's influence and knowledge of the team he might give a heavy suggestion to Claude.

I also think they might have wanted to wait a bit to name the player who replaces Stevens as captain. Messier retired the same week as Stevens and the Rangers did the same thing and did not name a new captain this season.

I vote Brodeur as Captain

Yeah I know goalies cannot be captain or has just never been done due to the tradition of the NHL? If it would ever happen i think he'd have a good shot lol.

Elias comes in a close second for the "C"

Goalies are not allowed to be captain. It's in the NHL rules.

What? It sounded like they were unsure if goalies weren't allowed to be captain or if they just traditionally weren't captains, so I was clarifying.

"Although it was assumed Elias would be offered the team's captaincy as incentive to stay, that did not happen. Elias was unavailable for comment."

Obviously it's going to be Malakhov.

Who else could fit the bill?
