If you could only choose one who would you choose? I know they are different type players but who means more to the organization?

Agree - large part to leadership.

Gomez. You just can't teach the offensive talent he has, which is critical with the league-wide emphasis on scoring. Madden is great at what he does but I think it would be easier to replace him.

If we are talking player to player, all things being equal, I think Gomez is a better "player."

But once we throw in contracts, leadership, and whether we will be able to retain Gomez, Madden comes out on top.

Madden by far. Someone else can have Gomez for one year at 5million.

Being that we are anemic in the scoring Dept and don't have a center its a no brainer, Gomer. 5mil dollar salary is cheap for Gomer.

Madden is an elite shutdown defensive center and penalty killer.

Gomez is a playmaking center with a shot who is about to enter his prime.

I think you keep Gomez in this situation because he's going to improve, he's going to be more involved in the offense and thus scoring goals, and with more goals, you don't need to protect 1 goal leads most of the time.

Sorry, Madden. I like how you play and really appreciate what you bring to the team, but Gomez is more vital at this juncture.

In new NHL Gomez all the way,but in the old shut down NHL id say Madden would get my vote..but as of this NHL...Gomer

Gomez...simply for the fact Madden has zero touch around the net. It's frustrating the amount of chances the guy creates and gets but can't put the puck in the back of the net.

If it's Gomez for one year and he walks, of course I'll take Maddog, but straight up? Gomer all the way.

Great question. :dunno:

If you combine how many goals each generate combined with how many they prevent (which isn't a stat -- maybe blocked shots are, but "players stifled" isn't) -- kind of a deeper version of the plus/minus rating -- I think Madden may actually have the higher total, but it will be close.

And Mad Dog is our top PK man, but isn't on the PP, whereas Gomer QB's the PP, but sits during the PK.

Madden's leadership makes everyone a little better.

Gomez' elite playmaking ability makes those who skate with him a LOT better (Elias, Gio, Parise).

Both are impossible to replace within the current reality, but Madden is in the top 5 of what he does, whereas Gomer is more like top 10-15.

Pretty evenly balanced "two sides of the coin" -- offense v. defense.

They say defense wins championships, but without scoring you aren't getting the chance.

WOW, this is a tough one.

At 2.93 million v. 5 million, edge to Madden.

Chance of being moved -- Madden 0%, Gomez seemed like 50% before arbitration (maybe more like 25-30% now... Still more than Madden.) So, in the eyes of Lou/the team... Edge Madden.

Who do I respect more. Madden.

But as I got my Gionta jersey shortly after he was first called up, I can't stomach the idea of breaking those two up, or missing the ballet on PP between Gomer and Elias.

So, Gomez, by a hair. (Sniff...):shakehead

for the devs, we could definitely use the scoring punch. We have the best goalie in the world, so i think itd be smarter to keep gomer

I love both but I went with Madden. IMO, The best 3rd line player in the NHL. And he has a great scoring touch for a guy that's a 'shut-down forward'

Gomez. In the new NHL, his offensive skills that cannot be taught become even more important and valuable to the Devils. I love Madden, but we can always replace a checking forward.

It's part of the "rookie restrictions," you can't participate in polls.
