Latvian Open League news

I will start this thread to inform you on news in the 06/07 Latvian Open League season.

Soo ill start with the teams who will play in LOL next season.

8 teams will participate in the nex Latvian open league championships:

These teams are:
1. HK "Rīga 2000"
2. FHK "Liepājas Metalurgs"
3. DHK "Latgale"
4. HK "ASK/Ogre"
5. SK "Rīga 20"
6. SC "Energija" - Lithuania
7. SK "Rīga 18"
8. HK "Stars" - Estonia

This is the first time when an estonian team will play in Latvian league. Im sure this season will be fun to watch. Riga and LM will play only in Latvia and DHK Latgale have big aims, with new finnish coach infront. I hope my hometown club ASK/Ogre will fight for 3rd spot and ofcourse im excited to see how will the estonian team play, they announced that this club will be a base club for Eastonian NT so they might not come last.

P.S. Ill update this when anything else important comes up and all the news on scores. Somebody has to do it :innocent:

Wow, I'm actually maybe moving to Estonia this winter in work, so that's some nice news since I've always liked latvian players and the national team. Will for sure be going to alot of these games then if I do actually move.

I hope that Latvian open hockey Legue will bw strong and in this way we will have a stronger National Team!

For those who wonder where is team that was sponsored by Sandis Ozolinsh (as i understand it isnt any longer), heres some info:

Paste (head coach) explained to press that Vilki/OP sent thair application to LHF too late and as they already had 8 teams, Vilki/OP cant play next season. They will play in Regional league but he promissed that there will be only few changes in squad. They will be back next season, after 06/07.

I think it's no need to create a new thread. Can anyone provide me with a link where i can follow Riga Cup for U-17 national teams. I know that it is gonna start this month.

I dont know about Riga Cup, but there will be torunametn in Daugavpils for U18 from Russia, Belarus, Poland and Latvia. Starting in 25.08

Also a torney in Liepaja for U20 teams from Belarus, Denmark, Poland and Latvia. This one will start in 31.08. Worth mentioning, this cup will be held to honour Sergei Zholtok (R.I.P.)

New season started today, its called now - "Samsung Premier League" as you understand, Samsung is main sponsor.

Now todays main game was between last years champions and runner up - Riga 2000 and Lieapaja Metalurgs.

I've always wanted to see Latvia.

What calibre of hockey is this? It's semi-pro hockey

What North American league might it be compared to? Actually there are 5 good teams and 1 Team [Energia] are worst, but maybe it's SPHL/LNAH level

What kind of cash do the players make? As I said it''s semi-pro they don't earn much money

Any former pros? Actually all young latvian players are played there

Any imports? Actually there is not so many players from other countries, but almost there are players from Belarussia, Russia, Lituania, Estonia, Finland, Checz Republic and Slovakia.

Canadians? in Lockout season in Riga'2000 played former NHL player Darby Hendrickson but nowdays in LHL didn't play Canadians or Americans
