The Source Update On The Trade Rumors...

After reading the article in today's Star-Ledger about "Lou Lamoriello has been shopping around the league and looking at unsigned free agent." Got me to thinking...its time to call "The Source."

After reaching his voice mail this morning, I waited patiently all day to hear "what he knows" about this situation. Not hearing from him, I made my way to bed only to realize that I went out before for 15 minutes to pick up a pizza, I forgot to check my voice mail (till just now) and unfortunately...I missed his call.

Nonetheless, despite all the rumors being said and heard...here is "who" is being looked into for the Devils center "Problem Solver" (ranked in order of desire)

1. Yanic Perreault (VERY SERIOUSLY BEING LOOKED INTO!!!)
2. Patrick Marleau
3. Mike Comrie
4. Chris Gratton, Krystofer Kolanos & Cale Hulse (former River Rat)

Sadly, all four deals include Gomez (as he is now our main "odd-man" out for the Devils) while players also being offered (in package deals with Gomer) for trade are:

Forwards: Darby, Foster, Cameron, Johansson
Defensemen: Uchevatov, DeMarchi, and poor ol' Sean (give me a chance) Brown.

The Source didn't mention much after the above stuff I wrote, except for the 4th deal...which is a deal the Coyotes are "offering us" for: Gomer, Rupp, Darby, Redlihs and DeMarchi. Of which, (in my eyes) is quite a bit to offer for those 3 players.

Other than that...that's all I know (for now). I'll keep you posted on anything else I hear when I do get the chance to speak to him.

Later,

TDR

Nice work as always TDR. I was about to post something asking if you were hearing much from your source these days after your posts last season regarding Brad Stuart among others. Glad you are still posting here. Also glad to hear Lou is interested in bringing back Cale Hulse as we were talking about him not long ago in here. Hopefully they put the full court press on Mike Comrie and then target Marleau 2nd over Perreault and Gratton.

I agree, good work TDR! Here would be my ranking of those players in order that I would like to see them in NJ:

1-Mike Comrie-I feel that he would really click well with Elias

2-Patrick Marleau-Almost the same player as Gomez but needs a change of sceanery

3-Phoenix Deal Modified-I don't want to see Gratton in NJ and what they are asking for is way more than those 3 are worth IMO. I have always loved Kolonos and would love to see him in NJ though.

4-Yannick Perreualt-I don't think giving up Gomez for him would be a good move...I mean, is he really an upgrade over Gomez? I don't think so.....

He's not an upgrade...but he wins his face-offs more often than not. Which is a concern right now for Lou and the team. The Pheonix deal is more a win-win for them and not really us. However, if they did do that trade and Kolonos panned out...it'd be nice!

Great job.

The more I think about it, the more I'm warming up to the idea of Comrie in NJ.

Patrick Marleau would be OK, but I'd rather keep Gomez than get Marleau because the two play similar styles.

No Gratton. Yes Kolanos. Hulse...uh...no.

Yannic Perreault would clearly solve the Devils' faceoff woes. But he's older and probably would produce just as much-if not less-than Gomez. So I'm not really feeling that one.

And Adrian Foster is being shopped around...hmmm...I don't know what to feel about that. Something tells me if he's dealt, he could come back to haunt NJ in the worst way-if he fulfills his potential and stays healthy.

If Comrie is willing to take a little over a million a year to play elsewhere as his agent is saying then its a wash salary wise with Gomez + _________ being dealt to Edmonton. Marleau being reunited with Friesen isn't a bad idea though as a backup plan.

Gomez makes next to nothing in NHL terms. It makes no sense to trade him, but Lou seems intent on moving him. Comrie makes the most sense of all the players mentioned.

So I propose this deal: Gomez, Gionta, Bicek and DeMarchi
for Comrie, Dwight Helminen, and Jani Rita, the meter maid. ;)

Friesen--Comrie--Berglund
Elias--Larionov/Rasmussen/Foster--Marshall
Pandolfo--Madden--Langenbrunner
Brylin--Rupp--Stevenson/Pikkarainen???
Darby, Pihlman, Balmochnykh, Rita, Suglobov

Rafalski--Stevens
Niedermayer--White
Martin/Hale--Albelin/Brown
Giroux, Redlihs

Koivu cleared to play; Perreault pulled

Sportsnet.ca - It's addition by subtraction tonight for Montreal as their captain returns from the injured list but their most consistent scorer and faceoff man is scratched.

The Montreal Canadiens will get an added boost to their lineup tonight when captain Saku Koivu returns to action.

Sources have told Sportsnet that the Habs captain will play tonight versus Buffalo while Yanic Perreault will be a healthy scratch.

This will be his first game of the season for Koivu after injuring his right knee in the preseason.

Koivu led the Canadiens with 71 points last season. The team has struggled on offence so far this season, having recorded only 26 goals in 13 games.

Perreault, on the other hand, was pulled from the lineup tonight by head coach Claude Julien after he had a heated exchange with the head coach during the morning skate.

Perreault has five goals and seven points this season in 13 games played.

Perreault is making 2.8mio! i thought Lou is in payroll cutting mode!

but anyway, it does not make sense to me to make a trade right now. Gomer is playing ok sofar, the team is above 0.5, why changing a winning team? ok - the faceoffs are a concern but i guess there will be alot of good rentals available towards the trade deadline from non-pos teams.

i'd rather just sign oates to address the faceoff issue than trade gomer for perreault

These are just rumors, right now it's the NY Post that seems most intent on moving Gomez...

You may not to believe this...but this is what Lou is looking to do sometime soon according to The Source.

As far as cutting payroll, don't be surprised if a trade is done now...and another one by the trade deadline.

We're winning, but only by a goal a game. Plus, we're getting killed on face-offs. Of which, leads to closer games and/or blowing leads.

the faceoff issue was already known before the season started so why Lou didn't do anything to address this issue in the offseason? I can imagine Larionov has been signed to address the power play issue, which worked out sofar. but it does not look like Lou that he tries to settle an already known issue by a trade 14 games into the season. this looks pretty much unprofessional! perhaps oates would have been the better alternative than larionov to address both issues, faceoffs and powerplay altough oates would have been more expensive and questionnable motivation after his statement that he is willing to accept offers only if the price is right.

i think one reason for blowing leads/close games was the implemention of Martin and Hale. this should getting better as the season goes on and the two get more experience

Some of the names sound interesting but let's set the record straight....Gomez would never be dealt for Perrault...It's not an upgrade. Gomez would never be dealt for Gratton - too expensive, not an upgrade. Marleau is very interesting...but would be Gomez +......I think the name that is still the biggest possiblity is Craig Conroy and Gomez would not have to be dealt for him. He's a right handed centerman with good defensive skills...also a FA at the end of the year

If Chris Gratton ever puts on a New Jersey uniform thats the day I stop being a Devil fan. Well.... maybe not, but you all know what I mean.

How is trading Gomez going to cut payroll?

It isn't. Gomez is one of the biggest bargin in the NHL at 900K. It like when Sykora and Elias were scoring 30+ goals and only make somethink like $625K. If/When Gomez is dealt we'll be taking on extra payroll.

Apparently Calgary sports fan radio seems pretty convinced that a deal sending Conroy this way and Gomez that way (of course, my main question is, what comes this way along with Conroy?) is imminent. Flames scouts seen at devils games, Sutter skipping practices to tend the phone lines...

Pay it as much attention as you wish. Could be just Flames radio wishful thinking. Just thought I'd pass along what talk I've heard out of Calgary.

I will be very upset if we trade gomez away with out getting a good young player back in return....like it or not gomez averages over 50 pts a season and is only 23 years old. for all his is shortcomings....turnovers, etc. he is a very good young player and will continue to be good, maybe even great for years to come. if we trade him for some one year veteran rental i will be very upset because right now gomez is a big part of our future.

If this happens here's to hoping that Conroy fits in as well here as Stillman is doing in Tampa Bay.

I don't think they played together, I know Firesen and Sturm were the first two on the line but I'm not sure at center.

I'm positive they played together on the power play and pretty sure they were on the same even strength line for awhile there as well. They are still friends from what I've heard.
