East Rutherford , NJ - The New Jersey Devils today re-assigned three players from the AHL's Albany River Rats to the ECHL. The announcement was made by Devils' CEO/ President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.
Re-assigned were goaltender Matus Kostur ( Columbus ), and forwards Scott Cameron and Brett Clouthier ( Cincinnati ). Kostur did not play in any games at Albany this season, while Cameron appeared in two AHL games, and Clouthier saw action in three contests.

Good work, Unthinkable! Once you're demoted to the ECHL, you can count yourself as a career minor leaguer with a miniscule chance of having a cup of coffee in the NHL.
Kostur could one day play in the NHL, as other goalies have made the jump. Clouthier is tough and could have a role as a goon in the big time. Cameron has speed and could make an expansion team as a penalty killing specialist.
Now it is time for Lou to get some veterans to help out the kids in Albany. Where have you gone Ken Sutton? ( I know, Germany. It was a rhetorical question! ) ;)

That's not true about the ECHL actually. With the IHL gone, that league has become much more competitive. Many players have and will make the NHL and stick up here, after playing in the ECHL. Brett McLean for one, played in the ECHL, albeit not for very long. Same for Michael Ryder. Derrick Walser played a season and half of ECHL hockey, and is now in the NHL, possibly to stay. Vernon Fiddler is another example. Dany Sabourin is a goalie who is playing for Calgary now, and played in the ECHL. The list goes on, and these are just guys off the top of my head. There are probably much better examples. You can't write off guys in the ECHL anymore.

I would absolutely love to have Ryder as a NJ Devil. If Lou makes a play to bring in Yannic Perreault, I hope he's a part of the deal by all means.
