takharov 07-06-2006, 01:54 AM This is the list as to be voted for on the BBC Sport site.We saw some spectacular goals in the group games but as the stakes have risen the goals have dried up.

Frolov 6'3 07-06-2006, 02:34 AM This was a very very poor tournament.
Yet
1. M.Rodriguez Argentina v Mexico
2. J.Cole England v Sweden
3. T.Rosicky Czech Republic v USA
Frolov 6'3 07-06-2006, 02:35 AM Cole against Sweden and Lahm agains Costa Rica were the best goals of this tournament. You think Lahm's goal is harder to make and more beauitiful than Rodriguez's and Rosicki's goal ??
Sampe 07-06-2006, 02:43 AM Lahm's goal wasn't the most challenging, but the accuracy of Lahm's shot did make it beautiful. In off the post.

That and the fact that it was scored 5 min into the tournament makes it a really huge goal.
A beautiful goal (by someone who isn't known for his goal scoring ability) and a very important goal for the german team and it's roll until the semi-final.

Rodriguez scored the winning goal in OT... Can't be much bigger than that.
Hercules Rockefeller 07-06-2006, 06:15 AM Rodriguez scored the winning goal in OT... Can't be much bigger than that.
That isn't my point. Germany/Klinsmann had all the pressure going into the WC.
Too young, too bad, awful defense, suboptimal games during the preparation....and so on.
Not a lot people believed in this team yet an early exit would have caused a nationwide hostile feeling towards those bums in white shirts and black shorts.
Instead Lahm picked up the ball after 5 min and scored a goal that eased the emotions and it did put the whole country into elation that even caused a proud national feeling, something Germany desperately lacked.
This team did a lot for the country. And it's not even the sportive success that matters the most, it's the vital spirit they did put all over Germany - a new self-confidence. Heck, this team even helped the process of integration as all ethnic groups that live in Germany cheered for Klose, Poldi and co.
...that all started with Lahms goal. And since it's even a beautiful goal I'm inclined to call it the biggest goal of the WC (besides the GW in the final ;) )
Imagine what would have happend if Wanchope scored the first goal...
Cole's goal was good but Isaksson messed up so that should be considered, most goalies would have stopped that. Maxi's goal was unbelivable though
Tricolore#20 07-06-2006, 11:15 AM Probably outside of the top 10, but an HM would be Ronaldo's goal against Ghana (4 minutes into the game).
Grosso's goal the other night could also be a HM, considering the circumstance and the shock factor.
Ar-too 07-06-2006, 11:34 AM No love for Beckam's free kick goal against Ecuador?
Hellström 07-06-2006, 11:46 AM No love for Beckam's free kick goal against Ecuador?
Not at all.
1. Maxi Rodriguez
2. Lahm (Amphityron´s reason)
3. some of the other goals form a bigger distance...
LiquidClown 07-06-2006, 12:21 PM Rodriguez scored the winning goal in OT... Can't be much bigger than that.
Not to mention it was on Maxi's OFF-foot
Volcanologist 07-06-2006, 12:57 PM 1. Lahm vs. Costa Rica
2. Frings vs. Costa Rica
3. Maxi vs. Mexico
Cannon 07-06-2006, 02:19 PM Putting a goal at number one would be unfair to the other beautiful goals scored in this tournament. There have been technically incredible goals (J Cole, Frings) and goals that were so vitally important (Lahm, Rodriguez). I think the list so far sums it up perfectly.
I'd like to add Del Piero's second against Germany, such a fluid goal.
SensAndy77 07-07-2006, 02:55 AM Both goals in the semifinals from the Italians deserve a HM
Gwyddbwyll 07-07-2006, 10:20 AM Maxi's should take it. Lahm's and Cole's were very good but Maxi's also being a matchwinner should eliminate any doubt.
Feenom 07-07-2006, 08:25 PM Rodriguez scored the winning goal in OT... Can't be much bigger than that.
Big goal and a beautiful one also. Best of the tourney followed by Cambiasso, great build up by Argentina on that one.
Wisent 07-13-2006, 02:18 PM Frings goal. What a laser.
rangers 07-13-2006, 03:40 PM Cambiasso vs Serbia
Scoogs 07-13-2006, 04:00 PM Another vote for Maxi.
I was stunned when I seen it.
TH3 RIDDL3R 07-13-2006, 04:11 PM Maxi.
Scoogs 07-13-2006, 04:21 PM Not only did Rodriguez unleash a wicked shot with his off-foot, he took the ball beautifuly off his chest to set it up.
polako 07-13-2006, 06:21 PM Screw it, I'm voting for Zizou's penalty against Italy. It takes some stones to chip a penalty in the final.
FearTheFlyers 07-13-2006, 08:58 PM Cambiasso vs Serbia
Without a doubt.
Scoogs 07-13-2006, 11:10 PM Without a doubt.
It should really be Argentina vs Serbia.
FearTheFlyers 07-14-2006, 07:15 AM It should really be Argentina vs Serbia.
